Got a 2023 xse and about to do the first oil change. My Toyota warranty only covers oil changes every 10k but I'm doing it every 5k. I don't care how many people tell me it's only needed every 10k it's not going to change my mind. My last Toyota lasted more than 300k miles changing the oil every 5k and I don't plan on changing how I do things anytime soon.

Better than the old video! While I grew up not even thinking about it, nowadays I personally have stopped allowing my hands to get coated with oil; there are some good reasons to believe that you absorb more "bad stuff" thru your skin than you'd think. Nitrile gloves are cheap...and make cleanup faster too.

The long tip on the original drain plug is a pilot so the plug doesn't get cross threaded. That pilot is designed to fit and slide in on the threads in the oil pan to keep the plug straight.

Hey man happy New year to you and your family, quick question I've heard that when you have your car up on blocks like that it's not a good idea to change your oil because it's at an angle?? I don't know if it makes much of a difference, I was just wondering your opinions on it.
@gerechoppers3 жыл бұрын
The plug is at the rear of the oil pan on this car, so I believe all the oil is draining when the car is at an angle like that. When I put the required 4.8 quarts in it, it shows the proper level on the dip stick. Based on that, I don’t think I’m leaving any oil in the engine once it’s drained. On my BMWs, the drain plug isn’t quite at the very rear of the oil pan. So, once the oil has drained, I lower the cars until they’re level and a little more oil drains out.

the flat part on the plug is called a nipple and is commonly used for ease of guidance of the screw into the channel to prevent the screw falling down or to prevent cross threading. What’s your opinion about placing strong magnets on filter body to catch metal particles inside the filter. Is it a Can’t Hurt or a Old Wives Tale?
@gerechoppers Жыл бұрын
I’ve never heard of that. I guess it can’t hurt, but a good quality filter would probably catch any metal particles anyway. Plus, I’d think that you would want them to get caught in the filter element and not be stuck to the inside wall of the filter. Just my two cents.

Great video! Just a side note.. When checking your engine oil level, the engine should be at normal operating temperature. The reason for this is because, as the fluid heats-up it will expand.. So, checking your oil on a cold engine will appear to be slightly low, even though it has the proper amount of oil. So, get your engine up to normal temp, kill the engine, wait five minutes, then check the oil level. You would be surprised how many ppl don't do this correctly.
@LarryB-inFL2 жыл бұрын
I understand, and agree it will expand a bit, BUT, I am NOT convinced that the dipstick mark is placed there based on warm/hot oil! Remember, the auto companies specify checking your oil BEFORE starting the car.
@damoncrowfeather46552 жыл бұрын
@@LarryB-inFL.. the dipstick has either hashmarks or dots.. the top mark is the full mark when the engine is up to temp. The lower dot is the 1 quart low mark when up to temp. Most mfg's state that if the oil falls anywhere between the two marks, it's fine to drive. The thinner oils used in modern engines today expands quite a bit, maybe more than you realize.
@LarryB-inFL2 жыл бұрын
@@damoncrowfeather4655 It expands a lot? Easy to make assertions: Show me the data!
@damoncrowfeather46552 жыл бұрын
@@LarryB-inFL The marks are there for full and quart low.. when the oil is at operating temp. In a automobile that requires around 6 quarts of oil. When the oil temp reaches around 200 degrees F, the oil will expand around 6 to 7 percent.. So, the volume increase is equivalent to adding almost another half a quart of oil to the engine.

I recommend you use 10w-30. The European owners manual which isn't constrained by bs USA environmental crap has the exact same engine and everything inside but gives true recommendations. The 2021 yaris hybrid comes with 0w-8 as a factory fill but the engine can use 8, 16, 20, and 30 weight oil without issue and can run 40 weight if used as a taxi or in similar situations. The 2018+ Camry can use 16, 20, 30 and 40 weight at the loss of almost unnoticeable mpg. Exact same engine code and specs no internal changes. My two toyota technician friends also said to use at least 30 weight oil in any toyota. Doesnt hurt it actually saves them. He said he's seen them become oil burners as early as 80k because of the thin ass oil, so yours may suffer sadly. He runs 15w-40 ford diesel oil in his 2017 tacoma since he says the anti wear package is one of the strongest you can get at any Walmart. Gonna run the ford diesel 10w-30 in my next toyota for sure.
