So happy you posted an updates version!!! Your mermaid skirt tutorial has been a fav of mine for years and i couldn’t stop sharing the link with my dancers friends! I have made several skirts from it (Altering it for a two panel version and starting the flare below the hip) and i had SO MANY COMPLIMENTS for it!!Thank you so much for that! Today i wanna make a dress out of this skirt but with a tail, in order to make a more gown style dress. Do you have any tips for that?

Aw thank you so much! I'm so excited to hear you've made several mermaid skirts from the tutorial!! I love the train skirt idea, and this 3-panel version would be great for that! All you need to do is elongate the hem for the 2 panels that meet at the back. The only tip I can think of is, do a test version to see if you like the shape of the hem before you cut your nice fabric :)

Hi.. I would like to know which kind of strech fabric should I use. I don't know any names and I'm from Colombia and I'll be glad if i can find the ideal fabric to make my own skirts. Thanks in advance

Sorry for my late response! If it's not too late, try looking for "lycra" or "spandex". In North America, this type of fabric is often found in the dancewear, active wear, or swimwear section of fabric stores. In general, as long as the fabric stretches well, and you think you'll be comfortable moving around when wrapped in the fabric, it should work! :)

What if you aren't using stretchy material like for example if I'm using Satin? How does the matematics differ?

Good question! If you're using satin, then you can divide all numbers by 6 instead of 7.2, and I would add 0.5cm for a little extra room, and first test this pattern to see if you like the fit. Also, you'll need a zipper at the center back seam 😊

It's 4-way stretch fabric often called Lycra or Spandex. :)

Just letting you know that plus sized gals need a bigger paper for their measurement. I figured that out the hard way. 😅
