Well done, enjoy your hi-fi. The way you held your free hand to protect the woofer cone in case the screw driver slipped while driving the screws is a smart tip.

@Toid4 жыл бұрын
The plans for these are actually for sale. I custom designed these for both a ported and sealed arrangement. The 5.5" I would persoanlly go sealed, but the 7" will go down to around 35hz ported. These are both designed with a 3rd order on the tweeter to protect the tweeter and limit the distortion. There is a second order on the woofer, along with a zobel to control impedance and cone breakup. The result is a very detailed, low distortion speaker with a flat frequency response to 20khz.

Nice work, but they don’t sound all that great. They sound extremely similar to the speakers in my iPhone. 😁 I’ve been meaning to pick up a pair of the Esoterics and play with them, but I have far too many nice drivers as it is. Did you line or stuff the cabinet with anything? How would you say they compare to other drivers of the large coil variety? Do you have any experience with Morel or Dynaudio? I have a couple pair of 5-1/4” drivers from each and curious if it would be worth going with the Daytons over those. Excellent work.

@ped-away-g13965 жыл бұрын
nice design but there are a few flaws. - they seem to be sealed but the tweeters don't have their own separate chamber which means they might get pushed around by the pressure the woofers make. if their backs are not tightly sealed, i'm afraid they might not last very long and might produce nasty distortion during operation while they last. - the braces are symmetrical and are placed right in the middle of the box which means some resonances will be more pronounced than others. the size of a good brace should not be a multiple or sub-multiple of any other panel and should be placed in a way that makes the structure of the enclosure asymmetric so panel resonances are even out and kept below audibility.
@Acoustic_Theory5 жыл бұрын
The tweeters used in this build are inherently sealed and self-contained; they do not require a separate chamber. It is rare to find a tweeter with an open back where it can be influenced by the woofer.

@johnnymotors20235 жыл бұрын
They look very good but why didn't you use the special tape that goes in between the speaker and the wood to lock in the air from escaping? And also you should do 2 coats of prime of white and then 2 coats of matt black and then 2 coats of lacquer and they will look awesome or instead of the matt black you can do the matt white and then lacquer. Trust me. Also don't forget to seal the 2 ports too on the back of the speaker. And you should put some foam on the walls inside the speaker.

I used to use 6 1/2" radio shack woofers in the doors of my old Ford Pinto with piezo tweeters mounted on the A pillars. Also used 8" woofers in two 3 way cabinets I built to fit in the cargo area. Driven by a 50w per channel for front and a 100w for the rears . This was in 1981 before the big car stereo craze.
