Very helpful....When you mentioned a deeper base and how the castors limited you to inside use......that got the ideas flowing. tHanks for the video!

Brilliant! I love the fact that you upcycled and found a way to make this. I have Stock Rims/Tires from my Tundra. You just saved me $$$ for my build! Again….Well Done!

My (non engineer) thought process was that if there was a structural failure the weakest link would likely be the wheels/tires as they are thr only under rated by weight component. The c channel sits only a few inches off the ground so if there was a collapse at the wheel or tire there is not far to fall.

the best how about ,steerable king pin on one end with removable steer tie rod ,tow rod, and put a jib rig on top for 2500 ,side lift ,looks great and it is.

DIY Gantry Crane - KZbin It is carried on the trailer, straddling the cargo area, and is mounted on wheels with a ramp on the sides of the trailer. Operates independently of the trailer, and can have a simple rotary gear plate, welded onto the wheel hub, with an electric motor mounted on the side for electric locomotion. Must have clearance for the wheel wells for easy storage and mounting on trailer. Also, different sized tubes for vertical posts, so that the height of the crane can be adjusted. And, an adjustable attachment pole, with the appropriate multiple pulleys attached, to use the lift to raise and lower height adjustment when necessary.

@stevenmurphree if I had to guess I would say 5 tons would put the deflection of that been well past the what overhead cranes are allowed.

Steven, interesting gantry crane. Been looking at the 3-5 ton versions. The wheels make total sense for your application. How well does it turn in a shop environment?
@stevenmurphree3 жыл бұрын
Not well. It does not even turn very well in the yard but is possible by chocking wheels and pulling the others. I would suggest load rated casters for shop concrete.
@kevinhornbuckle3 жыл бұрын
Maybe he could fab a steer sled for it. A narrow four tire tray, like a sleeper. Install it when needing to turn.

@stevenmurphree3 жыл бұрын
@@sto-kitten if you're going to the trouble to make a solidworks file just make a short video too. I built the crane off relativism and think I over built it. I would be interested to see an engineer's perspective.
