Today I made a super budget DIY Recording Studio for a little over $50! I have been getting into producing my own music lately just for fun, and I needed a better sound recording set up, so I went out to the hardware store and grabbed some stuff to make it happen! I got the idea from another KZbin video and kind of played with it and made it my own, but feel free to tell me where I could use some improvements!
Blue Yeti Mic: amzn.to/2RhOVuL
Microphone shock mount: amzn.to/2nMFWpe
Acoustic foam: amzn.to/2naNIpH
Thank you for watching and see you next time!

I've been a home recording musician for quite a number of years now, did the whole band thing, played gigs and whatnot...I just found more satisfaction in home recording. I play rock/metal...guitar, bass, drums, keyboards...pretty much everything. My whole family are musicians, and my Grandpa (RIP) taught me everything I know. The home recording stuff I picked up and learned on my own by trial and error...and KZbin of course. I can tell you right now, you are on the right track bro. You will still need a pretty good list of gear, but you're on the right track to getting there. I have a whole room full of recording gear...and I STILL find myself buying things that I can use in the studio. It's an "always buying stuff" hobby...lol. Just get ready...and hope the wife understands. Luckily mine does. So far so good on your purchases.

The cool thing about your mic is that it picks sound in different patterns and there is a switch to change the patterns. For what looks like vocal recording of you . You want the pattern that looks like a head of a mushroom. Also I would suggest if you have a closet record with your back facing the back wall of the closet. If a closet is not available use a wall

put the booth facing to one the corners. this way it will catch the sound of the back and you won't have to build the back wall. try this and let me know.

you should look up where to put foam for reflections before you stick it behind ya theres like weird rules to follow so it works well

I've done lots and lots of recording and from my experience as far as vocals go, just hang a thick thermal blanket in the corner! Its sounds the same as having a foam foam. Vocal sound is really all about the pre amp. As far as I have seen. Cool idea tho

Very good video. Make sure to cover the whole bin with sound proofing. Place foam on corner of wall where they meet. place your back against the foam and the mic/bin in front of you. The sound reflection will be activated. I would use on sides also. In Mix anything 40hz or lower should be filtered. If you guys would like to learn about the music bizz check us out. Updated 2018 info.

Not sure how well it would work but why not put some more foam on the inside of the cover. Cut a hole into the cover and put the cover on the box and then just sing into the sound hole?

You know it wold be cheaper and sound better just to learn how to EQ properly instead of masking frequencies and causing early reflections and unwanted coloration with this nonsense that has gone through ZERO acoustical testing.
@MorrisetteMedia
@MorrisetteMedia 7 жыл бұрын
+The Brutalizer probably would but as I said in the video this was just a little weekend project for fun and I am in no way a professional, but thank you for your comment

I can appreciate that, I just feel bad when people waste money on something like this and post it where thousands of people will see and repeat the same mistakes. You're definitely not the worst perpetrator of this though. I recently saw a video that had over 500,000 views and almost no likes despite the fact that the guy glued random non-acoustic foam into a plastic tub (btw these have random resonant frequencies so be careful). I'm glad you thought about the wall behind you though because the truth is that the mic is most sensitive on the side that you are on and least sensitive from the back (if it has a cardioid pick up pattern) so treating the space behind you for reflections makes wayyyyyyyyyy more sense than only putting a foam box around the least sensitive parts of the pickup pattern.
@thebrutalizer7841

Side note - I went to college for audio so I do understand that not everyone has the education about it that I do. Sorry if I seemed harsh. I just get so sad seeing bad info get passed around. Now that I think about it though, from a professional standpoint it's probably better that everyday people do stuff like this so there's a reason to actually pay for real studio time when it's time to step it up.
@MorrisetteMedia
@MorrisetteMedia 7 жыл бұрын
The Brutalizer haha no hard feelings man, I appreciate your passion for the subject. Not too often people care enough to call stuff out. Yeah I did absolutely no research on this lol I just saw another video of it and wanted to see how easy it was to recreate and decided to document it. I'd like to focus more on audio production and learn more about it as I go so I'm sure there will be more (better) attempts at something like this in the future lol. But yeah I definitely want to learn how to master and EQ tracks too
