I watched your wedding dress video last night and then this one and less than 24 hours later I’ve made 5 hair scrunchies and this dress 😂 I didn’t even know how to use a machine so I stole my sisters and read the manual. I think I’m hooked now. Thank you!

When gathering material make two rows of gathering stitches about a half inch apart. Pull both threads to gather it up. Then stitch your seam between the two rows of gathering stitches. It will lay nice and flat and you won't get any of the gathers puckering up on you as you stitch. Then you remove the row of gathering stitches that shows. You can leave the other one that is on the seam allowance in and it will do double duty as a stay stitch. When I learned that trick it made things soooo much easier.

Wow! This brings back memories. I sewed this jumper over 40 years ago to earn my sewing badge for girl scouts. We (my mom and I) made the pattern out of newspaper and we did not have a sewing machine, so it was hand sewed. This is how my sewing journey began. The jumper was my first ever sewing project. So that proves how beginner-friendly it is and that you don't need a sewing machine to sew.

Wow, that’s a great story I love that, good for you and your mother.
@livelovelaughxoxo983 жыл бұрын
In the future, if you don’t want to do a top stich but you want the fabric to lay flat, you can use an under stich where you stich the excess to the lining fabric. It’s basically a top stich but you only see the stich on the lining side

Trick of the trade: when sewing straps or other tube type things, attach a strong but thin string to one end and see the tube with it inside. When you go to turn it right sides out, just pull the string.

I definitely think I’m going to try to make this, maybe making the bodice a lil’ longer and taking it in under the bust. P.S. Because of your gingham dress video, I went and bought gingham shirts at the thrift store….I thought my store wouldn’t have any because it’s so small but I found some great shirts and I’m super excited to get back into sewing! Thank you for inspiring me!

Hey Jenna...one thing that changed my life when it comes to gathers.....turn them down, facing teeth of sewing machine...it seems like not soo important but actually, it is sooooo helpful..because teeth will feed this uneven surface much easier which means you will struggle less with much nicer outcome :). give it try next time......and 2 rows of basting stitches 🙏🏼 at least 1cm away from each other and sew in the middle....its gonna be beautiful 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
@Sewicked Жыл бұрын
If you use stronger thread (like button thread) for the gathering stitches, it's a tiny bit easier to pull. If you're confident, you can also zigzag over a cord to do the gathers.

@AprilxTears Жыл бұрын
I followed your directions and made the dress! It took me 2 whole days, because I measured my bust a bit too tight and had to expand the bust that I've already cut out. I also decided to add a belt, and had to figure that out. I used 2 different fabrics for the skirt so I had to figure out how to align the skirt to the bust so that the skirt is facing how I wanted it to face. And after I finally finished everything, I realized the belt was too low on me, so now I have to figure out how to turn that into an empire waist instead 🤪 it was a very fun project! I'm proud of the result because I have never sewn anything before, ever. Thank you for making such a helpful video for all us newbies who dont know how and where to start! I'll have to make another dress following your example to a tee next time 🤣 really, thank you so very much again!

Definitely a cute dress pattern. i've been looking for something easy as i quilt, and i'm just starting out at that! most my sewing experience is hand sewing lol. but i just got a new sewing machine, and i want a sumer dress. this looks like what i would enjoy. and very easy to adapt to what i would want. like instead of tie straps just plain straps that were sewn in on both sides and maybe make them more like a biase, put pleats in as opposed to gathering it, probably add a couple pockets (that's a must LOL), and definitely a bit longer. i'm probably close to 3x your age. But i just want something to knock around the house in while i'm doing chores and what not.

Haven't stopped thinking about this since I watched it! Soooo I'm definitely making this but maybe as a top? I don't wear short dresses and I feel like the clashing patterns might be unbalanced if the skirt is super long. Just gotta get through my sewing project backlog first, 2 out of 4 finished today thanks to this inspiration

Hi! Complete bginner here 🙋♀I love how accessible this tutorial is. I'm in the process of making this dress, it's the first dress I've ever made. I have a question and I wonder if anyone could help me out. At about 13:20 she shows how you sew over the lining of the top. How can you make sure you're sewing on the same fold as the front of the dress? I've just completed this step and now I have two seams on the bottom of the top. It's not very pretty and it has some folds in it. If anyone could give me some tips that would be so nice!
