AC in the shop puts the "Dream" in Dream Wrench- that was a great idea and looks like it will be effective in your shop! You're spot-on that the cooling run is a must for paint and anything requiring constant high CFM; thanks for sharing the build!

Thank you Haptic! It really is a dream! Thanks for checking out the video commenting. Stoked for the next T2 engine video!

One of my many, many plans for my Squareback is to build an oxyboxer engine for it. It's the bottom end of a waterboxer (as found in Vanagons), but with the water cooling jackets cut off and replaced with air cooled barrels and pistons. You get a much stronger 5 bearing crank which is easily strong enough for 400+bhp. Add a megasquirt Efi and you've got a super reliable 1915cc or upwards motor with all the torque you could ever need.

That sounds like the best of both worlds! Is there a particular Waterboxer build thread I should check out for info?

Looks good brother, try having an old wet rag handy when soldiering and right after you make the joint you can wipe of the excess bugger of solider. Makes for nice clean job. Great video ALSO 100% keep the acvw engine I did a rebuild on mine did a 1641cc

Thanks! I always hear that its hard to beat the reliability of the stock 1600. Are you happy with yours so far?
@DanParratt4 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking about reboring my 1600 and doing some performance modifications, or maybe swapping it for a Type 4 FI engine, but I really think that your engine choice depends on what you want from the vehicle when it's on the road. At the end of the day, an engine swap on one of these is a pretty easy feat so even if you keep the OG engine, you could always drop a new one in at a later date.
@DreamWrench4 жыл бұрын
I like your reasoning and thats kind of what I'm thinking too. Build an ac VW engine now. I can always subie swap it later if I really want to. Are you going to go 1776 if you bore yours?

@@DreamWrench 👍🏻 yeah, probably something around that capacity, I need to do a little more research into what it can achieve, but I'm just looking for a little more power to keep up with modern traffic. I should start stripping it down and rebuilding it somewhen soon though, would be nice to have it all running smoothly for 2021.

Could yo explain a little more detail on the cooling part of the build? How does the system work and did you hook it up to another appliance?
@DreamWrench3 жыл бұрын
Oooh I should do a video explaining this. I'm not an expert, but basically it works like a cars radiator. The hot air leaving the compressor runs thorough the copper pipe. The copper pipe is room temperature so it cools down the air. When the air cools down it also condenses and releases moisture. That moisture collects in those little traps above the ball valves. I think thats basically the simplified version. I did not hook it up to another appliance. Thats whats cool. It does this without any electricity because science. Thanks for watching Isaac!

Sorry for the late reply! I used 1/2" diameter copper.

1776 would be plenty :)

Okay cool. Really tough to choose a size. Doesn't seem to cost much more to go a little bigger but I guess I should also consider reliability.
