I love love love how you approach your process. Your not so judgmental, rather curious as to what will appear. You just go for it until you find something interesting and like. I've changed my approach to my crafting and it's less stressful (meaning "Getting it right") and so much more satisfying, so thank you!

Please pay no mind to rude comments. Loved both of your diy alcohol ink videos, I just got my supplies today from amazon except I use bottles with metal thin tips for my resin coasters. Great tip about leaving everything in the bottle every other video talks about taking them out which seemed like a pain to do. I subscribed way befor this video. Keep up the great work.

I hadn't watched your first video but this one was bang on. I have made my own Alcohol inks in the past, I just put mine in squeeze bottles with a narrow tip on it and a cap, very much like the bottle you buy them in but the ones I bought were bigger. I LOVE how your examples turned out, just beautiful. Thanks again for another great video :)

Nice video...quick, concise and right on! I collected a lot of used water color markers and did the same trick - only I used like 10 of the same color in each bottle to get the vibrancy....because there were so many 'tubes' in there, I had to 'squeeze' the ink out of each one and toss it to actually have enough volume of ink but they worked beautifully!!!

Comparing the cost of alcohol inks to alcohol-based markers, it's no wonder people are going this route. I recently bought a set of inks, but I will now replenish at more than half the cost and will get more colors. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Janelle, I have always been wanting to do something like this because I just can't afford the Tim Holtz stuff and others. I subscribed because I like your DIY approach to things and also heard you mention thefrugalcrafter, Lindsay. I just adore her because she makes things make sense and she's always saying "use what you have" instead of making you think you need alot of things to get started. I've been watching quite a few of your videos already before I subscribed or commented. By the way, I get depressed frequently, because of too much gotta do's and not enough play time. Sorry so long of a comment. And lastly I did see your video about the alcohol ink contest and looking forward to watching more. I love the looks of them, but I only own 1-3 pack of Tim Holtz inks and his alcohol ink blending solution (will diy that & reuse bottle). Take care. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas

Jeanne, oh my! Thank you for the warning; I had no idea.So sorry this happened to you. I hope Janelle, our video author, sees your response. Porphyria - Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porphyria Porphyria is a group of diseases in which substances called porphyrins build up, negatively affecting the skin or nervous system. The types that affect the nervous system are also known as acute porphyria, as symptoms are rapid in onset and last a short time.

Unfortunately I don’t live in a city that has a store like that & shipping can be quite expensive as I live in northern Canada so I often have to find alternative ways of doing things as opposed to someone who lives in an area that has everything they need or a major center where shipping is free or quite inexpensive.

I think reused ones are probably better because a lot of the pumps cannot handle the alcohol and stop working due most likely to corrosion or something. The ones made for alcohol ink are probably made to handle it.

I’ve seen other videos or commenters that caution against residual pieces of felt clogging up the spray nozzle. have you had this experience? Do you have to eventually strain out the fibers before using in a spray bottle? Thanks for the simple, easy-to-follow demonstration and explanation!

Have you tried making them with just water? After doing so many of the ones with alcohol I ran out one night as I was in the mood for making and I used water and did great. That's how I make mine all the time now. I love shimmer sprays so I use the mica powder eye shadow from the dollar tree and it makes amazing shimmer, Also for a side note, I also have made great bright vibrant colors from using GEL food dye, cake decorating color icing pastes, and also my concentrated liquid watercolors. THey all did well. Some were more of a pastel shade because I used too much water, I should have just made small bottles from the jump but the ones I didn't do that for, wouldn't have worked for actual alcohol ink projects but they are great for sprays for other mixed media projects.

@JanelleNichol
@JanelleNichol 6 жыл бұрын
+Johnny2419 I honestly would only do it once. It might take a while to use up a whole bottle so I wouldn’t think you’d want to re-use it. HOWEVER, once you have the initial shade/intensity that you want, it might be useful to use some of that ink & make another lighter shade of that same colour. It would just be a diluted bottle.

I love how you can laugh at yourself with the prior comments, I’m definitely trying this, what type of paper are you using?
@JanelleNichol
@JanelleNichol 4 жыл бұрын
+Elaine Danalis I am using Kirkland brand photo paper from Costco. Unfortunately it seems it is very hard to get ahold of these days. So some alternatives are Yupo paper from an art store but that can be pretty expensive. I have also heard of a Staples brand of photo paper that works- but I’m not sure which one. The Kirkland brand, if you can manage to find it...you need to use the “wrong” side of it. So not the side you would print a photo on. Check out some of my other alcohol ink videos & I talk a little bit more about paper. But I am planning a video on some good alternatives since the Costco paper isn’t available much anymore.

not sure if you have ever tried differnt items here sharpies are expensive and you get so little ink out of them so i use Tattoo Inks and fountain pen inks i get like 40 differnt colors in 5ml bottles for 20 dollars and that makes alot of alcohol ink lol and good thing about it is you can make so many more colors with it beecause you can mix differnt colors together to make your own new color and add more or less drops to your alcohol for lighter or darker shades of same color ect. i get my inks from wish, ebay, amizon , sometimes i find like 80 differnt colors for 20 dollars. also no waiting as soon as you put the ink in your bottle and shack it up its ready to use. not sure about where you live but many times from the sites i listed above shipping to me is free

Hello can I ise an oil based sharpie to make the alcohol ink?

No, unfortunately not. You need to use the regular sharpies because they are alcohol based, hence why you can make alcohol inks from them.

Looked to be about a 2 oz bottle - that is what I have and is about the same size. About 2/3 or so full as you don't want overflow when you put the spray lid back in! Voice of experience here!
