Myriam, I hope an art school, high school or college/university has the honour of having you on staff because you are one of the best teachers I have ever seen. Your pace, tone, content, humour, knowledge all promote learning in students of all levels, even someone like me who had never attempted making art until I hit my 70s. Thank you for your generosity in sharing what you know with us.

Excellent!! THANKYOUUU! this was JUST what I needed. I’m late to the whole alcohol ink craze (although I do know artists have been using this medium for decades or more, it just seems like one ☝️ of the latest crazes in recent years) You explain everything in layman’s terms ie: easy to understand & make me feel confident not afraid of doing the “wrong thing”. Can’t wait to follow your intro to alcohol inking videos🙏🙋 from Aust. Also I did get just 3 primary colours to start, but they are SOOOOO saturated that I can’t get the effect I’m looking for. So hopefully diluting them will help. I’m just not sure of the ratios etc. Maybe you will explain that in another vid. If not, can you please direct me to a good video about diluting with alcohol as I don’t have blending solution yet. Much thanks,and I know you’re a busy woman, so I totally understand that you may not reply straight way😬👍🙋🧸

This was awesome! I have been wanting to try alcohol inks for a long time but only recently bought a set...it's an off brand, or at least not one of the ones you showed, mostly because it was on sale and the only one I could afford, so hopefully it works ok....also, I have just the normal alcohol, like 70% or whatever it is, and I've been looking and, I think cuz of covid, I can't find the 90 anywhere ... so will I be able to do it with the lower %?? I want to make a couple mugs as a gift so I'm hoping to try soon so I'm hoping the alcohol i have will work. This was an AWESOME video and can't wait to watch the rest. You make absolutely the most beautiful things! Hopefully I can get some tiles to practice on, such a good tip!! And that super pointy bottle too! I also LOVE the sharp edges they make! Thanks again! Sorry for all the !!! Aahahaha but I'm pretty excited :)
@MyriamsNature4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jade, I’m so happy this was helpful. There are a ton of alcohol ink brands out nowadays... most are good, each with their own characteristics. You can certainly do work with 70%... 90% and higher is better simply because it has less water (alcohol inks don’t like water). You might find your inks look a bit grainy because of the 70%, but you might also be just fine. Alcohol ink is unpredictable at times so have fun and experiment. Another inexpensive practice surface is the shiny side of white freezer paper (from the grocery store 😃)... it can even wipe completely clean most of the time (some colors might stain.) If you’re on FB, I’d love to have you join my group... there are a lot of alcohol ink artists sharing their work, resources, etc. It’s a great place to ask questions, get inspired, AND show off what you make. If you’re interested, here is the link: facebook.com/groups/Myriams.Fluid.Art.Tribe 😊 Happy inking!!! (I’m a fan of explanation points too 😁😘💕!!)

@@MyriamsNature thank you SO much for replying! Can't tell you how much it means to me and how much it helps! I will definitely be on the look out for the higher % alcohol and also for those little bottles you use a lot to water them down with the alcohol! I don't have a fb account, I'm so sorry...I'd love to see all you and others are doing. I appreciate the offer so much :) Once I do something I'll try and let you know somehow :) I've binged a bunch of your videos for ideas and inspiration and I'll have to force myself to go to sleep and not to my table and open my inks ;) Although I hope I can use them well without watering them down and such...and not wasting too much as I definitely can't buy more right now ;) but, I am excited! Like I said, your creativity, enthusiasm and giggles are wonderfully infectious :) Thank you so much! You're a wonderful teacher!! You make people, someone like me that's wanted to get back into my art but due to worsening health just haven't, but the way you teach and your style just makes you excited again and want to just splash paint everywhere! Ok...I won't do that, though that is my dream....but ill reign it in and show my excitement in this new adventure of alcohol inks :) Thanks so much!! I hope you and your family are doing well during all this!! Stay safe!! :)

Great beginner video! What's the difference between Claro extender and blending solution?
@MyriamsNature3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words 😊. There really is no difference between Claro and blending solution... they both thin the inks to lighten them without compromising the binding ability of the inks or their gloss. Both have a resin binder built in. Thinning inks with isopropyl alcohol for example, works but minimizes the sheen of the inks and makes them bind less because the isopropyl alcohol dilutes the resin in the inks. I hope that makes sense and helps answer your question. Happy inking! 💕

Myriam, you sound exactly like a dear friend of mine who also collects my art! I'm already taken by you! Really enjoyed this tutorial. Ive never used these products, and the reason alcohol inks have piqued my interest is because I need a tiled splashback behind my gas hob. So I thought, why dont I make a unique and personalised one by painting the tiles? My research led me to these inks which eventually led me to you. I've looked through your extensive playlist but I cant find anywhere to teach me how to seal these tiles once your painting has dried. It needs to be totally sealed so there is no interaction between the tiles and the gas flames, i.e. I dont want the painting on the tiles to melt off!!! Or for the alcohol to cause some kinda explosion!!!! Also, a tutorial that shows how to paint a whole block of tiles in one go would be so useful. EG if you are making a triptych, how do you keep the tiles together during the painting process, but separate them to dry individually? The latter is important just in case they end up sticking to each other and then it'll be a nightmare to use them. Hope my Qs have inspired your next two tutorials! Totally selfish I know, but I'm sure your viewers will thank me! :D

Loved this video! One question - if using a tile as a coaster, do you have to seal it with something?

Hi Myriam, I’ve been doing alcohol ink on non-porous tiles and when I apply the ink it beads up and almost disappears. I’ve tried everything to conquer this problem to no avail…help me.
