Borax is completely safe. a combination of boron. Sodium and oxygen.

The rubber seals on my last dishwasher turned to mush & the repair man said it was from the vinegar I was putting in a cup on the top rack. Have you heard this or was he pulling my leg? I want to try this recipe because Molly's pods are 33.- a bag now & I cannot afford that, though they work great with my hard water. Also the disks you made are round and would not fit in my new dishwasher's small rectangular cup. Is there a silicone mold out there the size of ready-made storebought pods? Thanks!

They are not the same. "Washing soda is Na2CO3 or Sodium Carbonate while baking soda is Sodium Bicarbonate or NaHCO3. "

It would make them dissolve to quickly, I would stick to the soap dispenser. You can add vinegar to the bottom to help with streaks.

My soap dispenser drawer/lid is broken and doesn't close so all my tabs usually fall straight to the floor of my dishwasher... so should I make bigger tabs if you're saying that means they will dissolve too quickly?

So I made your laundry soap and it turned out well so I decided to give this a go.... sadly it made my dishes come out cloudy. So I tried to hand wash the dishes that came out cloudy.. its been a nightmare and still not cleaning back to its original before trying out your recipe... I then got on to see the comments.... where it says try to put 1/4 cup vinegar... I tried that again... no help :/ unfortunately I do not recommend this recipe of yours. If anyone knows how I can get my my glasses, pots, pans, and all the other dishes I put in dishwasher doing this recipe to look like it's original state before doing this recipe would be much appreciated. Otherwise, I am going to have to replace ALL of the dishes I put in the dishwasher which is going to be costly...

It must be a difference in soft and hot water. It works great for some! Try doing a vinegar soak. :)

I was able to get items back to original state by putting them in hot water with 2 cups of vinegar.... the molds I have are bigger so I cut them in half and added vinegar in a small glass and set that glass in top corner of dishwasher.. I haven't completely given up on this recipe.. so I am giving it another try with half the mold and regular cycle. I will let you know how that works out.
