Using 2 O-rings on each side of the cap will secure the pipe in place... Thank you for sharing

Just a update, few months ago I've added bladder snails into the filter jars. Now it's clean for much longer, goldfishes eat smaller snails so there no invasion.

I think it would be more efficiënt if (like the other filter) air runs through the media, the bacteries do better on air

Ooo maybe on my next project, I cleaned it out a couple of times since I had it as the filter floss gets dirty pretty quickly. My first version of this filter definitely filtered the water alot better, but then again it also had way more filter floss 😂😂

It would have made more sense if the holes were on the sides of the jar , so the dirt would have been pulled from side with the help of sponge below & the rings on top would house more beneficial bacteria & the air with the help of a air stone would rise up

That would work, but with the air lift tube ending at the bottom of the bottle, the water flow would only pass through the media on the bottom. Also, if the holes were going to be on the sides of the bottle, the air lift tube would need many holes drilled throughout it, also means you need more filter floss. The reason why I have it the way it is in the video ensures water flow throughout all the media, more efficiency since the air tube is longer, and less filter floss. I tried drilling holes on the sides in a bottle filter before this one, and was surprised to see that only the bottom media was dirty, and the middle/top media was spotless clean.

Two thirds of the jar - ceramics. Two thirds of the rest- filter floss. The rest is empty, so it catches more debris. Aquarium is now crystal clear, without other filters. Thanks for idea, cheers

@@BryanLa What about tightly wrapping the bottle with a black plastic bag, just make a few holes to see when filter gets dirty?

You could, but it would probably be more effective with some sort of netting. if one of your fish decide to adventure in the plastic, it could get stuck or hurt. Maybe look into netting from an old fish net, or something like screen door netting

@@BryanLa Bro take care of your Climbing Perch. When I was a kid growing up here in the Philippines, I used to catch Climbing Perch, Snake Skin gouramis, 3 spot Gourami, Catfish etc during floods. Now it's so hard to find those fishes here. If I want to catch those fishes, I would need to go to other places.
