Knowledge is power, so learning to work on your own bow is a good thing. Not every archery shop will help you learn how to build a bow. I decided a few years ago that I wanted to learn the process and when I asked a pro shop to show me the ropes, they replied, "if we do that you won't need us any longer." I put together a home archery shop over the course of a couple of years that closely resembles what you recommend. Now, when I need to change something on my bow, I simply go to the archery shop and do it myself. No driving, waiting, begging for work to be done. I get to learn, change things and put them together the way I want. Thanks for the work.

So envious, maybe one day I’ll be able to get a press. Right now I’m using a modified bicycle vice to hold my bow. But I’m not sure how you can work in a “black” shop….then again I wear glasses too. I’m using a Bohning Cauldron at 3 degrees R helical for my Max Stealth vanes, and a Bitz with the R clamp for my 4 fletch target arrows using Q2i vanes. I also built my own arrows spinner using bearings out of fidget spinners. Hey, I’m a senior on a fixed income. Gotta make do.

Arrow Saw - X-spot Mini/Decut Mini has been great for me but now that the full size is on sale for only like $20 more I'd probably go for that one if buying again. Some people complain that there is play in the mini but if you set it up correctly I have found it to be rock solid

Nice shop. I’ve been in the process of building one for a while now and I have 2 things left. Bow press and arrow saw. I’ve even been building my own arrows for a couple years now but I just go to my pro shop and they cut them to size for me. I definitely gotta get a arrow saw. I have a cheap bow vise though. I would love to get the OMP vise. They are awesome and worth the money. The arrow level Hamskea just come out with is a must to. I can’t wait to get my shop together. It will be nice to not have to worry about going to the pro shop all the time.

I saved a bunch of money by building my own last chance style bow press. I also built a string jig and stretcher. So I make strings for me and my buddies. After figuring out how to work on my own stuff. there's not many shops I would trust to do it the way I want it

Westin arrow saw. About $150. One thing about diy is that you can do it all as soon as you want. No waiting on a pro shop, no “Friday” or “Monday” style half ass bow maintenance. Plus, the less time you are spending wasting a techs time with stuff you should be doing, is time they can spend getting new people really dialed in and new people really need that.

Had both the bubble levels come off my podium archery string level. Also had the glue fail on a podium archery stabilizer. Reached out to Josh on the stabilizer, he was going to send me a new stab but it was an easy fix on my end (J/B weld). So excellent customer service there. For the string level; I just reglued the bubbles back on the with gorilla super glue but my confidence level dropped a notch on podium products. I get so much info and entertainment from both Josh and Dan on this channel that I want to support them both but also wanted to give some honest feedback. Dan had the same issue with the string level so probably not a one-off.

Just had this conversation with thr Mrs's tonight. The closest thing to me is a big box store 40 minutes away, and while they're nice enough they just don't do very good work (no soft nock, peep is twisting and barely tied in, d loop is starting to spin) so I just have to start saving up to buy the tools to do it myself. Appreciate thr run through and build out costs, definitely a process that will take a good bit of time to buy along the way.

Dan- Have to say that I have enjoyed and learned so many aspects by watching your info, along with MFJJ and Tims stuff. Good stuff, thanks My learning intake for me in this first year of compounds so far has been- Learn your equipment and provide a good stability/platform. I totally agree that in order to know your equipment, you need to understand how it works. So, going over the shop platform aspects that are working for me.... LC ultimate bow press and drawboard, OMP wide vise , LC saw with my own add ons for an ultimate bench arrow tool. (spine and broadhead testing/adjusting). LC fletching, arizona fletching jigs. OMP serving jigs with the LC reserve pro. Homemade pneumatic string stretcher. BAP wide jig for the strings. and of course the LC poundage gauge (an important tool) the average gram scale to measure weights, kind of stuff. This addiction will cost you more than a dollar. I appreciate everyones' input, and thank you for yours.

Coming from the other side of the world, imports are double. A $425 press becomes $950 incl shipping & taxes by the time it reaches home. For over a decade had to build my own tools and archery talk has been the library for it all. Built a vise, made new targets, a draw board and was lucky enough to have a friend bring me a bow masters bow press & a fletching jig from the US. 3 years in, I needed an arrow saw. During the lockdown, built a string jig and tensioner. Suddenly I had other archers and students come over to fix their bows, that ended up with me teaching during the weekends. So more bows, recurves and compound. Now, badly in need of good tools. LCA, BAP, OMP & Coop’s it is. 10 years of DIY has taught me the value of quality built tools even if it costs me double.

Yes the LCA arrow saw is expensive. But like any other tool you do get what you pay for. It is more than a saw but an arrow build station. You actually get three tools in one. Is it a lot for a home saw maybe but you guys build enough arrows it would be money well spent and last the "crew" a life time.
