Can I add a thick layer of joint compound to make my wall thicker so that I don't hear my neighbours?
@mariafung-graphicdesignerw8059
@mariafung-graphicdesignerw8059 3 жыл бұрын
@@frostflower5555 You can thicken the layer of compound according to your liking. However, compound itself doesn't make the wall sound proof.

I want subway tiles in my kitchen and they have no texture. Also the seams are black. It's very popular in boho kitchens.

Oh that is so beautiful...ive been looking at so many brick videos..but I have textured walls..i cant peel them..i wonder what will happen when i try this.

thanks for your kind comments. Are your textured walls painted? If so, you can use a paint remover or sand it down with a sander. If you don't wish the trouble to remove the paint, another way is to puncture many holes into the wall so that bare concrete is exposed to allow greater adhesion. This is normally done for those choosing to stick veneer bricks onto painted walls. Again, this varies with the kind of wall you. Mine is a concrete wall. Drywall may need different treatment. There are some youtubers who apply the joint compound directly onto their painted drywall. But again, I would not recommend this step as paint comes off easily, and your joint compound bricks can fall off as a result.

If let say, I don't want the bricks anymore, therefore how I remove it?
@mariafung-graphicdesignerw8059
@mariafung-graphicdesignerw8059 6 жыл бұрын
Hi, applying it directly to the wall will make it hard to remove the bricks. Another suggestion is to screw wood boards to the wall, then apply the joint compound from there, so that in future if you wanna remove it, you can unscrew them.

Thank you so much for the tutorial. Just a quick question: did you use all of the joint compound you bought? I'm just trying to estimate how much joint compound I'd need for my walls
@mariafung-graphicdesignerw8059
@mariafung-graphicdesignerw8059 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ami for your comments. I used about 95% of it. And it also depends on how thick you want your bricks to be. If you want the bricks to jut out more which mine doesn't really do, you may need to purchase another bucket. My blog contains all the info on the materials and step-by-step guide.

Is cement really necessary for the finishing touches? Is there an alternative to give that "cement look" finish?
@mariafung-graphicdesignerw8059
@mariafung-graphicdesignerw8059 4 жыл бұрын
You don't have to, but the edges at where the joint compound meets the wall may come off easily. so having the grout seals that. You can use joint compound itself and mix in some grey paint before grouting. But I still prefer the concrete look and feel.
@Mr.Possums
@Mr.Possums 4 жыл бұрын
@@mariafung-graphicdesignerw8059 thank you so much. I reckon I can try patting the compound down (around the edges) lightly after removing the tape to smooth it out so it won't chip off easily. You reckon that could work? The hardware store near us had closed down so getting cement is a 1 hour extra drive lol. Thanks again, this inspired me to make.some changes here at home.
@mariafung-graphicdesignerw8059
@mariafung-graphicdesignerw8059 4 жыл бұрын
@@Mr.Possums you can do that, but it's time-consuming for each brick (I did that, so it was a pain). What you can do is mix in some adhesive (the one used in my cement mix) to the joint compound and stir thoroughly before spreading onto the wall, that would lessen the chip-off. Otherwise, you can apply some adhesive at the back of the chipped corners and press them in. For cement, perhaps you can try ordering online? All the best!!

Assuming that i want to remove this after years. Is it possible?
@mariafung-graphicdesignerw8059
@mariafung-graphicdesignerw8059 4 жыл бұрын
If you plan to remove this, another alternative is to install wooden boards to the wall, and then create your faux brick wall on it. This way, when you want to change the feature in future, you just need to uninstall those wallboards easily.
