Thanks you. I was just shopping yesterday for a stencil to do bricks on my wall, kinda expensive, or getting those bricks panels which would have involved $150 plus I would have to rent a truck!! I am so glad I found your video. I have done designs on walls with joint compound before. Didn't think of brick so thank you so much! Your wall looks great! Wish me luck! 😁

As a stone and brick mason, I’m impressed. Only thing I would have changed would be to use 1/2 tape for smaller joints and then maybe take a razor blade to alter the tape here and there to make it look more realistic. Nicely done

Thank you so much! I would have liked it better with the smaller joints too. I watched someone else used that size tape and didn’t even think about it but next time for sure. Have a great day 😊

@@jackvillan5151 Great ideas. I was thinking I would lightly press a brick sized sponge into the joint compound to give it some of the brick look and help erase the lines the trowel made. But it still looks great.

TIP: If you leave the tape in place after applying the joint compound, you can simply paint it all at once and then peel the tape off last to reveal the "grout lines" instead of painting each individual brick and having to worry about getting paint in the grout lines.
@decoratingfanatic2 жыл бұрын
Great idea.
@torimac95972 ай бұрын
No sorry this doesn’t work, the compound will crack and crumble and tape may not lift under the weight of dry compound, compound must still have moisture in it and then you also develop softer rounded edges in your brick and less mess and mishaps

I think I would have tinted the base coat or primer so it wasn't such a stark white color for the "mortar" lines. Great DIY tutorial! I'm seeing this a few years out from when you completed this project. Are you still pleased with it, and do you still live in the same home? If you've moved, how did potential buyers react to the faux brick?
@decoratingfanatic7 ай бұрын
Thank you! Yes, after the video I went back and added a lot of white with a little bit of brown peeking through the edges. I think it looks much better. When I added the white wash over the brown it smeared it and I didn’t like it. It looked grey.

I still live here. This was the first house that I bought and built and we are still here after 26 years. I see a lot of KZbinrs adding the faux brick in other areas and it looks great. Everybody has different tastes. Hopefully who ever buys my house loves it.
@hauntrepreneurs Жыл бұрын
1) .07 tape is too thick for grout lines. Find a thinner tape if you want a realistic look. 2) Grout is rarely white. Use a warm gray as an under coat. 3) Mix paint into the joint compound to use as a base color. Saves you a step, helps primer the compound, and helps it stick to the drywall. 4) Use a small roller with the brick color you want. If you put it on dryish, you create texture with each color.

Thanks for all the tips! I went back and added more white. Looks so much better.

Looks really good! I think your problem with the paint peeling was oils - you may have washed it down but made it look like your dad. Or possibly the type of paint you use underneath. Not all paint is the same - I paint a lot of furniture walls and I used to think cheap paint was just fine. If you want to still use leftover paint or an expensive paint you may need a good scrub & or primer to avoid that. Granted you were able to do a fix it - so it is what it is. But I would’ve put a little bit of Kilz or Zinsser 1-2-3 & it is less odorous. I think for this project I would stick with the kilz. Anyway it looks excellent I’ll have to see what else you’ve worked on I like the budget friendliness!
