Would it make any difference if the wire was wound with a more complex geometry, such as a helical spiral that also matches the geometry of the magnets?

@@christopherd.winnan8701 I haven't seen any DIY alternators created with a helix-type geometry (if you could point me to an example I'd be curious). Furthermore I do not think a more complex stator configuration would necessarily make the build more impressive.

10/10 for the jigs! But there is a much quicker (and easier) way. Add your inside and outside diameters of the coil then add double the distance from inside to outside ..... times the number of winds per coil and add 10%. That then gets your loose coil. Tie at multiple points. Get a piece of ply with pins or screws at the inside and outside points. wind your coil round the pins. When you put it into your armature use a Lacquer rather than CA glue ..... or just pour your epoxy if you want it to be potted! Got to admit the video of that would not be as good as this, but it would be a lot quicker and easier! Serpentine coils are future for generation!
@slimknight_ Жыл бұрын
I think some of the purpose of this was to be able to quickly wind the circular coil with a drill or similar and then fashion that into motor windings. If this isn't the case please let me know because I hope to make a motor as well.

@@slimknight_ I thought roughly the same as Dave W. I'd have fixed shaped blocks onto the base and wound the coil directly around them. That forming jig was nice (and worked) but it's over-engineering the project.

Dlaczego w jednej lokalizacji? Szkoda powielać błędy, każdy powinien zbudować określony projekt i tyle.

Nice, maybe adding iron fillings in stator mould will concentrate more flux
@RafalNowicki Жыл бұрын
I am familiar with that solution, but it may lead to the issue of 'cogging'
@denz37 Жыл бұрын
Right, maybe little skew on magnet or stator may reduce cogging
@robertoguerra5375 Жыл бұрын
Cogging can also be reduced by making 2 or 3 of these pancake generators on top of each other, and their rotors secured together in 180 or 120 degree phase difference. The overall cogging effect would cancel, from the perspective of the input shaft. The iron cores should be laminated, to prevent eddy currents. And the laminations should be aligned so that they prevent the induced circular current, and not prevent the magnetic field flow. But I want to see this design going all the way until completed 😊

That's an odd way of making the coils. Why not make individual windings and then assemble them in proper sequence later. That jid although impressinve is a waste of time, money and effort. I don't see the benefits of a continuous phase winding. All that does is use extra copper wire at the very cornered edges where no power can be generated. Also increases the risk of shorting the wires with excessive heat.
