I just found one of these saws by the dumpster. It's in great condition apart from slow RPM. I thought I'd have to take the whole table apart, but your video shows me how easy it actually is to get to the motor. Saving me hours of work, thanks! 🙏🏻

A million thanks to you sir. My motor completely seized on my bosch 4100. Sure enough was same seized bearing as yours. Ordered from amazon (pack of 10). My bearing would not budge. Could not pull off. Had to cut it off very careful with rotary tool being careful not to damage shaft. Set new one with brass mallet and reassembled. SUCCESS!!! Sounds brand new just like yours! You gave me confidence to make this repair. Thank you so much

Thanks for the video, Vlad. Great help. Had difficulty removing Philips screws. The screw heads got stripped due to screws seized in place. Had to follow advice from the internet and was able to finally loosen the screws: used larger screw bit, applied super glue, sprayed with WD40 and used impact wrench. Had to to replace the larger bearing twice as I missed to insert the collar before pressing the bearing in place😂. Both bearings of rotor were already noisy so I replaced both of them.

Glad I found this video. My saw stopped working about a year ago. It's been in my garage collecting dust. I bought a Hitachi and it is terrible, literally falling apart from the first week I had it. Today I took apart the old Bosch 4000 and found that rear bearing totally seazed. I'm not certain the armature is not shot but I'm going to replace the bearing and see if it works.

Thanks for this video, it's very helpful. A while back I changed one of the other bearings but not the one on the end opposite the blade, which squeals occasionally. This is an easy way to access it. I have the bearing and just need to get it installed. Then I'm selling this saw because the raise and lower mechanism sticks and requires frequent cleaning and dry lube. Good saw otherwise but very frustrating to struggle to raise and lower blade.

I am glad the video was helpful to you. Yes, I also have issues with raising/lowering the blade. I found that when I keep gears dry completely, i.e. without any lube, they work better. The wheels are made of plastic which is "slippery" enough.

Nice work on video - - I will be doing this job as soon as I acquire the parts. My saw is the 1st gen version (4000) but I'm sure it will be almost identical. It is a good design with one weak part - - a situation that is very common in all machinery.

I found it's much easier to turn the saw upside down, remove the saw blade and tilt to 45 degree. This makes everything very accessible. First remove the brushes, then remove the 4 screws of the motor housing, pull off motor cover which leaves armature and front bearing attached to the saw and do the repairs. 1hour max repair. I don't recall you mentioning changing the rubber gasket that goes over the bearing. After looking at the parts manual I noticed there is a rubber gasket that goes over the bearing. Mine was shredded when I took the motor apart to change the bearing. I don't know for sure but I speculate because the motor housing is plastic and a worn bearing would destroy a plastic housing, I wonder if the purpose of the rubber gasket is to melt under heat and stall the motor so more damage isn't created. It's less than a $3.00 part.

Great video! I guess I’m the only one who is having trouble getting the 4 black screws out. I have tried several different screwdrivers and they all want to slip and strip the screw head rather than grab the screw head and loosen. I think I’m going to have to cut slots in the screw heads with a dremel and use a flathead.

Thanks so much for sharing. I’ve found that I have a similar problem where the ball bearing (Bosch part 2610911928) is dented and won’t turn. The problem for me is at 5:42. I can’t seem to pull out the motor by wiggling it, even after I removed those two screws. For the ball bearing, what is the size I should order? Getting the exact part number on Amazon is about $15. And what is the name of the tool you used to remove the ball bearing?
@asakayosapro
@asakayosapro 11 ай бұрын
That tool isn’t for the purpose, but rather it’s a tool for detaching automotive ball joints. A bearing puller with either two or three prongs will work well, as well as a hydraulic press with the proper bearing support. Press shaft out of bearing, being careful not to drop or damage the armature shaft and windings.

Thank you for this video! I have 4100 from 2002 and have made so many projects with it I can’t bear to part with it even though I have a sawstop now. Mine seemed to be slipping not siezed. It happened after milling 7-1/2 cm rough walnut to make newel posts. I am a woodworker not a mechanic but you gave me the confidence to try to fix it. Should I replace all the bearings since it is slipping or is that a sign the gears are shot? Thank you.

Nice video except you left it the most important part. How did you get the 2 screws that hold the armarture back in? I managed after an hour but it was quite a challenge, and I'm a pretty handy guy, who can do almost anything. I guess that's why you didn't show it, probably took you an hour also. Everything else was cake compared to installing those 2 screws. Edit: How to install armature flange screws. Wedge two small pieces of styrofoam underneath each side of the flange and center it. Install armature slowly and carefully, while you line up at least one screw hole, the other should line up fairly easily as long as the Styrofoam doesn't slip. Did it in 5 minutes once I figured it what to do.

I saw that as well, and that is an extremely annoying piece to deal with. One way to deal with it is to insert the armature, position that flange with a pick or wooden dowels or wedges while keeping at least one of the screw holes aligned, then partially screw it with the appropriate fastener. Once screwed, simply rotate and screw in the other fastener, using the wooden wedges to hold it in place. I don’t even know how the manufacturers managed to get that done in the order of assembly, but that is really annoying, and it probably required some special robotic jig or other anti-repair stupidity to install that stupid thing.

I took the motor cover off and determined that the end bearing is rough and needs to be replaced. Can I just remove the bearing with a puller and tap on a new bearing while leaving leaving the Armature in place, or do I have to remove the gearbox assembly and remove the armature first?
@altstuder

I assume you found your way through a year later but if you didn't, let me know. You can, and should try. It is difficult getting the new bearing seated fully. If you remove the entire armature, getting the front bearing keeper reassembled is the most ridiculous pain in the ass I've ever encountered.

It's almost always the rear bearing. I would have checked it first. You can remove the bearing and put a new one on without removing the armature. Just make sure you remove both brushes before taking off the rear cap.

My 4000 has a clip w 2 screws on the FRONT BEARING. It was completely skipped. One frame the whole armature is out. The next frame the front end is in and no instructions on that flange on the front bearing. Not helpful in the slightest. This was the only piece of information I needed for the entire assembly.

Same for me, although he did mention that getting that bearing keeper re-threaded was very tricky and he said he used a little hook through the housing. It took me hours to figure out a way to reassemble- a bent piece of wire, a string threaded through the whole assembly and a lot of cursing.
