Diy building a base cabinet part 1. Build a base cabinet yourself diy. I built this base cabinet for our food pantry in our pole barn house because it was a lot cheaper to do it myself than to buy cabinets and it has a lot more storage room especially in the corners.
I wanted to make this video to give you ideas how it possible to do it with just a few tools without spending too much, and limited work areas. I did all the messy part in my shed in the freezing cold, and all the painting and staining in a bedroom. Lot of times diy is about doing what you can with what you have. :)
Here is the video for part 2 • DIY Base Cabinet Build...

Thanks for showing this step by step and explaining the reasons why you were doing things that way. It has been super helpful and makes it really clear (no guessing what happened in a step where tonnes of things magically appear!). Thanks for sharing this, You're a really great explainer and teacher! Looking forward to watching part 2 :)

I am going to say it... I may be in the minority here but I 100% love no music and the overdub explanations. So much easier to watch without any of the other "trying to be cool" chaos.

Great instruction. I like the voice over instead of music. Also thanks for muting the drilling and cutting noise. The machine noise tends to be very loud compared to talking volume and hurts ears when using headphones. Other KZbinrs don’t seem to know that. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thank you for the comment Nina! I put music in a few spots where the time lapses were longer but tried to keep the volume down on that too. I appreciate the feedback and input.

Excellent video - I always wanted to learn to build a simple cabinet - use a hole cutter, and you made it so simple and clear cut. Thank you for doing the video!

Is there anywhere you have the measurements? My husband likes original measurements and can then adapt from there! I love this!

This is custom-made for the size of my pantry. I’m not sure which measurements he would benefit from.? Maybe the next video part two would answer some of that.

Do you mind share the size of the lumber you used ?

I thought I had put it in the video description but I can’t find it. I believe for a lot of the frame I ripped two by fours in half if I remember correctly. I’ll try to measure that when I get a chance.

I believe there was a outlet that was covered.

No outlets were harmed or covered in the making of this video. The only one that’s not counter height was the one for the freezer in the left corner. 😁

This is an awesome idea, building the built-ins using dimensional lumber instead of cabinet carcasses. Since one is making it for a specific place instead of selling cabinets, the modular aspect of cabinet would be redundant. I was thinking of doing something like that for a built in media center but scraped the idea as I wasn't sure how viable it is, and was deciding to make cabinets from plywood but will probably do what you do. Sorry if you covered this but have you by any chance estimated how much you ended up saving doign it this way, instead of building cabintes?

Thank you! I think It would’ve been twice as much for the cheapest of cabinets and that didn’t include any corner cabinets so I would’ve lost all that space. It also didn’t include the countertop.

I use kreg jigs daily. On the K4 did uou adjust the rear slide for 3/4"? Appeared to be on the 1/2" setting, this is going to cause screws to set too deeply causing the issue with buldge on the front of your face

Yeah thanks. I kinda remember something about that at one point in the build that I had it set wrong or something. I think I got it sorted out. Worked well. Thanks.

Just wasn’t the style we wanted. We wanted as much room for door opening as possible for putting in buckets.

There was absolutely zero reason to pull up the floor! It amounts to unnecessary work to pull it up, and to piece it back in. Cabinets have been put over finished floors for a hundred years.

Personal preference. If I ever want to change out the floor it would be quite a bit of work to fein tool cut the flooring around the cabinet if I just left it too.

Wood expands and contracts with temperature and humidity so a small gap is actually a good idea depending on the type of wood used. That is why the drawers in a dresser wiggle a bit so that they don't stick.
