My take on a battery box to power my kayak accessories. This box powers my depth finder, and charges my phone. I’m also able to power two cameras for all day recording.

NICE! I'm pondering how feasible it would be to put a LiFePo battery in the forward tub of the console to run my Garmin. That way the only holes drilled would be in a replaceable part.

Sorry, just saw this comment. I think that would work out well. I don’t use that compartment for anything other than storing my excess cable from the Hummingbird. For me it’s a little awkward to get at, especially with the hummingbird mounted on top of it.

@@KayakAnglingMinnesota No problem. I checked and the tub sits on the hull bottom. A 7 ah SLA fits in the battery bag as well so its in it's spot now. The only reason I'd have to open that compartment would be to charge the battery so it looks like a winner for now. I'll be ordering a Lowrance scupper mount for the transducer soon but its working over the gunwale for me so no big rush.

I used the same battery... I only bought one. I should've used 2 of them and wired them like you did. I have Garmin Stiker+4cv That should give me enough power.

Should be enough power, I’ve ran my Helix 7 on one battery for the day.

Are you asking how I charge them? If so, I have the standard AC charger with the two alligator clips that I use. I have a spare pig tail that plugs in to the connection coming out of the box and I hook the alligator clips to these wires. This way I am able to charge both batteries at the same time.

hi i am wanting to make a battery box for my kayak to power my helix 5 and was wondering how you power the fish finderr with those plugs?

The Helix is wired with a plug that matches up to the 5 way splitter coming out of the battery box. Give this video a watch and you can see how the items are powered from the battery. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6CumXuQn62GqJI Without looking, I believe the 5 way splitter has female ends so the helix is wired with the male end with an inline fuse.

Take a look at this link. It shows the 5 way splitter and some pigtails. I used a single pigtail coming out of the batter box. The splitter plugs in to the pig tail, the other pigtails are then used on the accessories (depth finder, USB ports,…). Would one of those batteries run a humminbird helix 7? And for how long?

Yes, I have ran my Helix 7 with one battery. However I was not able to get a full day out of it (10 hours).

About a season and a half so far. I expect to replace them soon, they are definitely not the highest quality batteries on the market and will eventually quit taking a charge.
