Sorry, another tip! Paint it all before it goes up!! That's what I did with all my bead board, and all the mouldings & quarter-round, before it was even cut. Saves a TON of time and crawling around.

0:58 Just a tip, instead of nails, use narrow staples, and staple in the small grooves instead of the flat area- easier to hide with a bit of spackling and paint later, the staples won't be visible at all. That's what I did and it looked great.

Agreed. I used beadboard for my basement laundry room walls. Brads just don't hold well enough and can pull through. Long narrow crown staples (1.5 - 2" typical) are the way to go and 16" OC into studs/joists is best. By looks of it, the video creator is putting way too many brads in and mostly into the drywall, not hitting many of the studs/joists (low holding strength). I'd also suggest a few dabs of well placed construction adhesive. BTW... buy the beadboard that is mold resistant if your going to be putting it into a location that is damp.

Looks great! My husband ( a mechanic; not carpenter) installed 4x8 primed beadboard like this in our basement renovation. He used the biggest head screws he could find to support the weight and it being so thin ( no drywall, only floor joist). Before I paint, can you explain how brad nails hold it up? Did we make a good choice with the screws since there would be roughly 16” gaps between them? Wish I could post a picture but I don’t see that option. I don’t hate the look of the screws but it wasn’t what I pictured

I had to use a lot of brad nails to get it to stay probably too many. It worked but when I do it again I will use construction adhesive to hold it in place. A good idea would be to used a bead of construction adhesive along each floor joist then you could put fewer nails or even used the screws until the adhesive dries and then take them back out. Loctite and Liquidnail make really strong glues that hold better than nails or screws. I hope that helps! :)

This is a great way to join two room together also. I usually see joining two room done with paint colors but using bead boarding or wall ceiling partitions works well.

It looks great! Planning on doing this to my home. What sheen of paint did you use? Flat?
@SimonSaysDIY
@SimonSaysDIY 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I used flat white paint. It has held up really well so far but One thing I would recommend is using some adhesive when putting up the panels. A few strips of locktite or liquid nail construction adhesive will allow you to use fewer nails when installing and will hold very well. Good luck on your project!

Great job❣️. I’m curious why you chose bead board over shiplap? Thanks
@SimonSaysDIY
@SimonSaysDIY 4 жыл бұрын
Both would work well. We were going to use Shiplap however the stores around us didn’t have the narrow strips. All they had was 6in Shiplap so we chose the 3in bead board. Thanks!

Good job but you should have used an adhesive and way less nails. Specially with fresh drywall it would have stayed without nails just need a couple here and there to hold it while it sets up.

How do you cut the molding edges so they are angled correctly on each end? One of them looks flat but the ones in the peak look angled.
@SimonSaysDIY
@SimonSaysDIY 4 жыл бұрын
I used a short scrap of molding and held that up in place and marked the correct angle. I then cut the angle and double checked. If the angle worked I then used that scrap of wood as the template for all of the cuts.

Did you, or anyone else who has done this have trouble hiding the bead board seams?
@SimonSaysDIY

It can be difficult. After painting it may cover some of them up. If not you can also use some caulk to fill in the gap to make it less noticeable.
