Excellent simple job. C6 is a great tuning. I'm amazed how many guys build this and can't play. Plenty of lessons online free. Learn to play and really enjoy your instrument.

Agreed. They're a lot of fun. I've done a few videos with this baby. Thanks for checking it out.

Ha ha. Thanks Lou. To be honest, I was impressed with how good it sounds. Those cheap CB Gitty soapbars sound really nice.

@@musicalmiscellany - I love CB Gitty. It's sad that I've been making musical instruments for 58 years before discovering them. Better late than never. Very nice build & sound.

Sparkle blue paint does a lot to elevate the look of that 2x4. Now I want to build one of these. Seems the only thing you're missing is to ground the strings.

Thanks for checking it out. Take a look at my other lap steel videos. I've made 3 now. I added a bridge ground where I had a metal bridge. They are a lot of fun.

Hi, just found your video! Great job!!! I am looking forward to making one now. Can you tell me what is the scale lenght, and what is the overall lenght of the lap guitar?
@musicalmiscellany2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking it out. I thought I mentioned the tenths during the video but maybe I did not. In any case, the scale is 23" and the overall is 34" Check out my other lap steel videos (playlist link in the description of this vid). The red one I built was slightly shorter, about 33" and the white one was even shorter.

I'm not normally a fan of the 2x4 lap steel design but this looks pretty nice! The hook to keep the cable out of the way is a great idea and the handle definitely adds to the overall aesthetic. I definitely want to build one at some point and even though the 2x4 design isn't my personal favourite, this gives some inspiration. The only instrument I've built is a tagelharpa which is a Scandinavian folk instrument and that was very recently so I'm by no means a master luthier and as such, I'm always on the look out for great looking designs to get the motivation going. You also have plenty of other cool stuff on your channel but I don't see any recent videos with a lap steel so do you still play it at all?
@musicalmiscellany3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching the video and I appreciate your insight. I still play this one from time to time but you're absolutely correct... I need to do more lap steel videos. I made a playlist so they're all in one place... kzbin.info/aero/PLwIixlr7C6KV9-UifWVYBcrcmKF4eahYC

Cool. Are these diy lap steel's the only lap steel's you own or do you have a store bought one? I'm wondering if it would help to have more width like 6" wide.
@musicalmiscellany3 жыл бұрын
I don't own any conventional lap steels... just the ones I've built. You could add some additional wood to the "body" area to make them more of a traditional guitar shape. I've seen some folks do that. Thanks for checking out the videos.

Okay. Well thanks for watching the video all the same. FYI, it wasn't meant to win any beauty contests. It was made from a 2X4 (and other parts) I had on hand. I was just documenting the build.
