BMW E60 Blank Key Programming using HiTag2 V3.1 Clone and BMW Explorer Clone (EF Scanner FULL V2018.12) for under $200 CAD. The key duplicator is a Defu 368a. The keys are virgin/blank keys. Prices on these tools seems to vary widely month to month but if you search enough, you'll find sellers listing the tools at the prices that I mentioned, or close to it.
Please note: The E/F Scanner MUST be used with the included software, provided by the seller. You CANNOT have your laptop connected to the internet while using the tool as there's a risk it will attempt to update the firmware, resulting in a bricked unit (unless you've opened it up and made a copy of the eprom chip).

Thanks Paul! I appreciate the kind words. I have a small hobby shop and mostly work on BMWs for fun but can certainly post up more videos. Is there anything in particular you're looking to see/learn?

You asked me what other video's you can make. would you be able to make a very imformative video on how to retrofit and program a CIC retrofit on the bmw E60, E82, and E9X. Videos are out there but the most important part seems to be missing. I just finish retrofitting the CIC in my NoN CIC e82 and at the moment its not fully functional because I havent programmed it to my VIN and certificates.

Thanks for sharing this video, i learned alot thanks to you. I got everything to work exept i cannot enter to "Key Learning" in the EF Scanner Software. When i click on "Key learning" it asks me for an ECU Update, which i refused to do because i dont want to risk to brick the CAS or anything else, i dont even know what will happend if i allow to do the update, i cannot find any information on the internet about this step. So tryed it on a different Car E60 2004 CAS2, here i get the warning "ignition off" after i pressed "key learning" like in your video, however i get no key data here it only writes 00000. I have the orange full version of the EF Scanner. So i think the Software (2019) is not working. After all tryed already 3 Cars... Some ask me directly for the ECU to update OR i get 0000 and no Data... I gues i need to look for other methods like vvdi2.... Or do you know how i can solve this issue ?

I spent hours researching different tools to use in order to CHEAPLY and QUICKLY program E series keys. So many forums were full of incorrect information and scare tactics (generally applying to downgrading the CAS, which I wouldnt do with these Cloned tools either), it was crazy! Of course, there are 'pro-grade' tools like CGDI, VVDI, etc that cost $1,000 + but I didnt want to spend that much money on something that really should be simple. The method above seems to be the quickest, most cost-effective way to make keys for E series vehicles.

Do you have a link how to do downgrade? I have same problem, but i lost all my keys, so apparently i have no way to get a secret key from old key like you did.

@@user-bg9rc1sx1s EF Explorer can do 'all keys lost' with the 2019 (blue) full version. If it needs to downgrade your CAS then it will prompt you. I personally would only downgrade a CAS on a bench, and not in the car. Also, try to make a backup of it before hand so if something goes wrong you at least have the original files to restore from (though you might need to solder an R270 to your CAS if thats the case)

@@djbmw1 I got R270 programmer already (it was pretty cheap only $20). Was able to read eeprom from cas and then create a new key and new eeprom with hitag. After that uploaded new eeprom to my car and now it unlock doors, but will not start engine. Not sure what's wrong, i think cas needs to be downgraded. Do you know any forums with information? I was able to find forums that giving you support only if you purchase a $1000 diagnostic tool from them :(

@@user-bg9rc1sx1s It sounds like the key's ISN doesn't match one of the ISN's in the CAS. You need to be able to access the CAS and see which slots are already used and if the ISN of your key matches one of those positions in the CAS. If you have E/F Scanner V2018.12, you can simply do "All keys lost" and write a new key if you dont have an existing key. If a downgrade of the CAS is required, it will prompt you and automatically do it for you. If all you have is the R270 then I cant really help you as I haven't used an R270 for writing keys. Again though, downgrading a CAS should only be done outside of the vehicle, on the bench (meaning you'll need to go to a junk yard and get some parts from a scrapped BMW)

@@djbmw1 i am extremely surprised this is 3 days ago.. i just bought an e90 335i clean title but no key. What would be the best approach to get a new one made cheaply? You seem very knowledgeable and honestly reading all of that I understood maybe 30% of it. I've fiddled around with something somewhat similar on my e46 but the e90 is unknown to me. Any tips and tricks wouls be greatly appreciated before I suck it up and go to the dealer for a new key. Thankss

I ordered the kit after your amazing tutorial, in other videos it says take keys out of ignition while flashing the key. Can you flash it without key being in ignition if it's comfort access ?

I have a question for you, have you ever tried to use hitag2 key maker using eeprom file to add new key as opposed to e/f scanner to see if the unlock or lock feature from the key remote works on your car? Thanks

I appreciate that Tin! Glad I could help! My laugh was genuine excitement after being told by a number of locksmiths that "you cant program a BMW fob by yourself" .. and then making a working key to prove them wrong (and numerous keys since). I'll periodically upload more content for e60 and e70's so stay tuned!

Hello, this is very impressive job You have done there, only one thing I'd like to ask, as I can see Your soft is for scanner 2013.07, but in description suggestion to use EF scanner Full V2018.12, can I use old version 2013 or it is important to use more expensive 2018.12 TIA

Thank you. I ended up purchasing both and the 2018 version is much more feature rich and supports many more firmware versions. It also was the same price at the time. The most important thing, however, is to make sure your CAS firmware is original and supported by the version of EF Scanner you purchase. If your CAS firmware has been updated at the dealer, for example, you will need to perform a firmware downgrade in order for EF Scanner to work with it. You can use INPA (free) and likely many other tools to check your CAS firmware version before purchasing EF Scanner.

Thank you! The remote lock/unlock/trunk works after syncing the key - though I haven't been able to get the comfort access to work. Admittedly, I haven't spent much time troubleshooting as I dont really use CA.

I believe v2018.12 offers cas4 and cas4+ F series key programming with F-ISN... But i personally haven't programmed keys for an F series (only on E series) so I suggest researching it further before making any purchases.

Thank you for sharing this very detailed video. It's awesome! I bought an empty key from Aliexpress and try to prep it for Explorer. But Hitag2 software said 'Transponder is not "empty"'. Did you know how to empty it? Thanks.

If you try to read the key data with hitag, do you see data on the key? If it arrived this way i would contact the seller and ask for a replacement key. You need a different tool to erase transponder chip data

Hello, im using 2013 ef scanner the clone, cas doesn't read, ELV locks on every try, tried 3 cars with cas3 and it does the same. Not working any advice?

hey man I read my cas module on inpa and its says I have version 5.040 up the top can I code another key to the car with this version? It also says my system is cas 2

Thanks for posting this for BMW owners trying to save $$$. So, in order to get "Comfort Plus" (start w key in pocket), you have to add a module/parts to the car?

You're very welcome! If you car is a Comfort Access (CA) car and the CAS can support it, and you've purchased a virgin CA key, then it should work. However, in the two times ive programmed a key with EF scanner for a CA car, i havent been able to get the CA features to work.

thank you. I was able to learn a lot from your video and comments below. I successfully make a clone cas2 module on the bench using r270 as the eprom data was migrated from my original car to clone. I also bought a Chinese ef scanner (2018 ver) to make a clone key. however as the same issue the other people happening, the scanner was unable to recognize the cas2 and not able to read the data from the key learning. I did also tried to downgrade the program of cas2 to a certain ver but did not help. so decided to step the other way which was to use hitag2 to create a key by using the EEPROM from cas2 as the higtag has the function to do so. then I confirmed that cas2 was able to be recognized on the bench as kombi showed the normal sign by inserting the key to the slot. probably all I need is sync with dme when connected to the car. on the other hand, my concern is now that the hitag2 don't show the remote control information (such as key number, secret key high/low..) in the advanced function. probably I believe that it will be required for the remote lock/unlock to the door. do you know why it is missing from higtag2 key maker process? I want to have all clear for my clone preparation in case of the issue happening. sorry for the long text.

Ive only used R270 to backup a CAS and repair a bricked one... ive never used it when programming keys so Im not much help there. Yes, hitag should read key data... if its coming up blank then something went wrong or the transponder chip is faulty. You can buy new transponder chips (PCF7592) from Aliexpress and solder them onto the key's board for a lot less money than buying a virgin key. There's also a tool that can erase data on PCF transponders... but i havent tried that

@@djbmw1 thanks for the useful info. i thought that each blunk key has an unique ID already installed as the chip can not easily be replaced with a new one. do you mean i can keep the same key ID although the transponder is changed to the new one?

@@sono2003yahoo the transponder chip has its own unique ID that cannot be changed as the transponder is supposed to be Read-only (perhaps there IS a way... but im unaware of it). In other words.. you get one chance to write data to the key... if you mess up, the transponder is junk. However, if you know how to solder you can desolder the transponder and solder in a new, virgin, PCF transponder chip so that you can re-attempt another "write" session

​@@djbmw1 my car is E90 and the key based on pcf7944 315MHz LP. Initially I selected a Chinese clone which has 26S0700 (maybe compatible with pcfxxx as it said in the description). I made a clone as I described in the previous comment with hitag2. everything looked ok but the remote control information. I thought that the reason why there was a missing on the remote control information because hitag2 did not support my key type. But I replaced the chip for the used key which I bought previously according to your suggestion. I used the exactly the same chip type as the one used for my original key (pcf7944). then it was successfully cloned by following the hitag2 key maker! I am not able to check remote key function on the bench. but I am sure that it should work on the car as I am able to see the info of the remote control. thankyou for your help!😊

Thanks! Its a clone of BMW Explorer that i purchased from Aliexpress. They call it 'EF Scanner Full'. The seller that I bought it from is 'ECUCar'. There was another guy in the comments that asked for the link to the seller and i think the link is still floating around in the comments somewhere :-)

@@thegrassisntgreenertodaytony right on! Just be sure to always have a charger on the car when doing any ecu coding. Alternatively.. making a bench setup with scrap car parts is the safer route to avoid any voltage drops/blips

Inpa cannot program keys into the CAS. It can, however, read key positions

I have had the HiTag for nearly a year and haven't been able to work it out properly as none of the useful videos I've stumbled upon on KZbin have been made in English, your video on the other hand has been more useful. Although it might help more if you had screen shot certain parts of your unedited video in to picture format in parts and then cleanly cropped out certain personal information for your car and then inserted your edited images in to the video where we could have paused it and properly seen all the menu options clearly rather than blur it. That being said your video was still way more useful. 👍 Do you know if that explorer software will work with a standard BMW INPA K+CAN Ediabas K DCAN cable, or will I definitely have to buy that explorer module to complete the coding side ? Thanks man!

Sorry for not responding sooner. Thank you for your comments! A DCAN cable will not allow you to program the CAS this easily. I've seen it being done by manipulating the HEX tables.... but that seemed like far too much effort. Of note: the software that I am using is the clone/cracked version of BMW Explorer that was shipped with my E/F Scanner. They also ship the decryption key as well with everything. If you were to purchase the official BMW Explorer tool its over $1,000. At that price,.. you're better off buying CGDI. PS - HiTag is great for reading/writing key transponder data. It does not, however, interface with the CAS inside the car. The marketing is pretty poor as it really should emphasize that HiTag can only interface with a Key but in order to create a working key, you ALSO need to then write that key into a slot in the CAS module which requires another tool (like E/F Scanner)

I've got an E90 from 2006 which has comfort access and keyless go. Now I want to program a new key because I only have one. I can find two types of transponders: PCF7953 and PCF7945. As I found out, the PCF7953 is for keyless go, while the PCF7945 has to be put in the ignition shaft. So I want the PCF7935 (to not loose the comoft access and keyless go function), BUT: in the software (HiTag) I can't see that the PCF7953 ist listed, while the PCF7945 is. Is it right, that with the shown tools, it is not possible to program a PCF 7953 key? What do you recommend to me to do? Thank you very much.

Ive now attempted 4 keyless go keys and they all require to be inserted into the key fob slot. I have yet to get they keyless go function to work BUT i also havent really spent any time on it as these are all spare keys and I dont *need* the CA feature.

Hey, great Video, but looking at Ali, it seems the “full” version of the scanner is almost $500 unless I am missing something. I’m trying to get new keys for an 09 535 that I was only given a single fob without the cut key. Car does have the convenience package so the key does not need to be in the key slot. I’ve done a bunch of keys on my e38/9/53’s but this is a little different.

Thank you. There are a number of sellers on Aliexpress and prices are all over the place. The seller on Ali that I purchased mine from is 'ECUCAR' and they seemed to have the cheaper pricing. If you're also looking to get a key blade cut (in case the cars battery dies and you cant use the fob to unlock the car), you will have to get one cut either by key code, based on your VIN,.. Or you can get your lock tumbler picked with a tumbler pick that will also show you the cut code. You'll then need to get the key cut with a mill cutter that can cut from codes... Most lock smiths should have one.

Read through the rest of the posts and I did see you mentioned the seller you bought from and it seems like they are no longer a seller, from what I can see their name doesn’t come up. The other question I have is the cutter you have sitting on your bench, will that cut keys? Also, I see you mention that you’ve never been able to get a key to start the car without putting it into the key slot, am I understanding that correct? Thanks Dave.

I have not been able to get the CA function to work, though I havent spent much time attempting it (its a CA key and was programmed for CA access in the CAS module.. I might need to do the 'pairing ritual' to get it to work one day). Hi Faig. Thank you for watching the video. Each EF Explorer model lists the different types of vehicles that it can work on. Of note, the CAS must have the original firmware installed. If the CAS was updated at a dealership there's a chance that you'll have to reflash the firmware which should only be done on a bench setup, and not in the car.

I purchased mine on Aliexpress from "Keysmith Store". There are lots of other sellers though... Just make sure it matches your FCC ID and frequency

Ef Scanner claims it can change the odometer mileage but i havent tried. Ive seen other people having to remove the eprom chip from the cluster and change the hex data using an eprom reader... But ef scanner claims it can do it over obd. Again, i havent tried so I cant attest to its effectiveness

Hi, I purchased this exact setup and everything has gone well except the part in bmw explorer when I attempt to click key learning button in "extra options" menu I get the error unknown version ECU. Any idea what might cause this or what might be a solution? I have the vehicle attached to charger, have tried the clicking the key learning button with ignition on and off key in key out, no difference. Thanks!

That means that the version of CAS software likely has been updated at some point by a dealership (you can check the date) and Ef Scanner would need to downgrade it (flash it with older software) in order to write the new key. NOTE: CAS firmware downgrades should only ever be done on a bench and after youve made a copy of your existing CAS. Do not do thos over obd in the car.

Can it be done with these tools or do I need more hardware/software to achieve the CAS downgrade. I wonder if it would be possible to get newer ef scanner software that would recognize my current cas version...

@@markzuege8641 unfortunately downgrading is just par of the course when programming keys with any tool, including vvdi, cgdi, etc. Technically ef scanner can downgrade the cas software over obd but there's a risk that it will get bricked since your voltage level is not stable AND other modules are interacting with it at the same time. To make a bench kit you'll need to visit a junk yard and get some wiring harnesses and a few components. I believe VVDI and Xhorse sell pre made bench kits though.

You're very welcome! Did you go to FTDI's website and download the latest D2XX drivers (64 bit)? You can then open up your "System Manager" and check your USB driver to see if the driver worked. You also need to roll your system clock back to a date between between 12.1.2010 and 1.04.2011 using timeback software such as "runasdate" or "TimeTravel". You might also have to run HiTag in Compatability mode as well, depending on you OS.

djbmw1 I just did download the latest D2XX drivers and rolled my clock system back but it says that there’s a problem with the drivers… like it says they aren’t any drivers but I’ve downloaded a link that my seller sent me (the cd with the drivers was missing) with the drivers compressed in rar that I decompressed and installed ?? I just don’t know what to do urgh like you said, the drivers are the hardest part of it all

@@twniyes0911 in your System Manager you should be able to see what the USB port sees when you plug in HiTag. Sometimes there's a driver conflict which adds even more frustration. If you have a different laptop/computer to try it on, id give that a shot too. Just keep in mind that these are chinese clones of tools and software from the early 2000's so getting them to run on computers made in this decade is a bit of a challenge

Hi Rick - There should be instructions in a ReadMe file on the disc that each of the tools came with. Having said that, I still had to do a bit of extra work... For HiTag I had to go to FTDI's website and download the latest D2XX drivers (64 bit). You can then open up your "System Manager" and check your USB driver to see if the driver worked. I also had to roll my system clock back to a date between between 12.1.2010 and 1.04.2011 using timeback software such as "runasdate" or "TimeTravel". For your E/F Scanner it should have come with software that is pretty straight forward,.. however, you must use "run as administrator" for the BMW Explorer version that your tool came with.

I had a much easier time installing it and getting it to work on one computer vs another -likely due to driver conflicts. You could also go into your device manager and see if there are conflicts on the usb bus. Finally, is your computer date set back appropriately with a date change tool?

Protip for anyone dealing with these clone bmw softwares just get a dedicated windows xp (32bit) laptop so you don't have to jump thru hoops

Using Chinese bootlegged software and cloned hardware is hardly 'Safe'. The 'safe' method is to pay the $300 or so that the dealer charges. However, if you have good electronics knowledge and are looking to learn how the CAS system works and invest in tools... This is one of the many methods to write new keys. Can you brick your CAS? Yes. However... You can back up the eeprom file before hand so that IF you brick your CAS you can use an R270 to restore it with your eeprom file. Again, what i show in my video is simply one of the methods that I use to make BMW keys for the vehicles I own. It comes with risks. But... I own a shop and have decent electronics knowledge and am willing to take the risk and potentially spend more time repairing any corruptions that I might mistakenly make.

According to the specs, the 2018 version works with CAS4 CAS4+ for F-series keyprog module with F-ISN. Having said that, i personally have only used it for CAS3 so I dont know how well it does or doesnt work on CAS4

Hi Alaeddine. I bought mine from the seller "ECUCAR" on Aliexpress. Make sure its the "Full version" of E/F Scanner. Also, the newest version is V2018.12 and is typically blue, not Orange. The Orange one that I used in the video is the older model with 2013 firmware on it. Regarding the USB dongle - it's actually CAS Control (it's not a USB Storage stick). Its used for various automated calculations - CAS dump explorer, KEY decrypt, ISN extract from dump, ISN restore from rolling codes etc. You absolutely need this when doing keys.

I got to the “key learning” step 9:07 but all the remote control and immobilized slots are 0’s and all “write new key” buttons are greyed out. Do you know why that might be?

That usually happens when either the tool is the 'scanner' version and not the 'full' version that allows programming, or the CAS has been flashed to a version that ef scanner doesnt work with. Having said that, the 2019 version of ef scanner will tell you if the CAS firmware is incompatible and prompt you to perform a downgrade.

@@simonfei3269 you're very welcome! They sell a few different versions of EF Scanner... And they all visually look the same. The cheaper models are generally just glorified OBD2 diagnostic scanners and the 'full' versions offer programming capabilities (including key programming). The Aliexpress product page will generally specifify which model does what. Regarding CAS firmware version... This is shown when you click into the CAS module after performing the initial scan. Its denoted along with the date of install in the lower window frame once you access the CAS modulr.

Is the fob itself a keyless go fob? The internal circuitry is different than a standard key. If it IS correct then the second thing to look at is the key positions. The keys should be in slot 1 and 2. If they are in a later position in the key table then they will not function as keyless go keys. Having said all of that, i believe that you can change the 'type' of key on an already programmed key. I actually think ISTA can do this with an iCAN+ cable (total of $20 and some time downloading and installing ISTA).

​@djbmw1 yeah they are keyless go (they have the battery opening on the back) I've checked with ista only thing I can do is block keys. And even with my regular keys blocked it still didn't work. I checked with tool32 and all 4 keys are programmed as non keyless go keys. I've ordered the ef scanner to see what I can do hopefully

I've heard that only the first 2 progammed comfort access keys will work as "CA" keys for example if positions 1 and 2 are regular keys and positions 3 4 and 5 are comfort access keys only 3 and 4 will work as such because you can only have 2 comfort access keys programmed. But if also heard what you mentioned as well

@@xans777 thats correct - CA keys have to be in slot 1 and slot 2 of the key list in the CAS in order to function correctly. Ef Scanner (full) allows you to change the keys position within the CAS key table.

I would first test to see if the key is transmitting. For myself I use a Nooelec SDR RTL2832 and tune it to listen to the transmitting frequency of the key. I then press any of the fob buttons and see if the SDR picks up the signal. If the key is indeed working, and other keys work too, then I would try one of several "key sync" proceedures (lots of websites post steps). If none of the fobs remote commands are being heard, I would then look at the receiving antenna on the car (at the top of the rear window just under the headliner). If this unit is bad you might also be experiencing degraded fm radio reception. You can attempt to clean the contacts or replace the unit. Best of luck.

This means that your CAS has been flashed at some point with newer firmware. Downgrading the CAS needs to be done on the bench. The errors you're getting are from other modules interacting with the CAS while you're attempting an in car downgrade (very risky btw)

I tested another cas3 and i can read isn and make key ( i think this ccas3 has original firmware). Hi Matthew, Thank you! The information provided means that your CAS module was updated by a dealership at some point and the original firmware of 25.04.2006 was updated to a newer, more secure 02.11.2017. The "update" is generally a downgrade to your CAS to a version that EF Scanner is able to work with. This should ONLY be done on a bench and NEVER in the vehicle as the risk of 'bricking' the CAS is quite high in-vehicle. I also suggest making a backup of your CAS so that, if the downgrade does fail and bricks your CAS, you will be able to recover it using the backup file and an R270 programmer.

@@matthewmummert7593 most, if not all of the tools, will require you to downgrade the CAS if the current version has the newer encryption. Having said that, CGDI, VVDI, etc are all tools that have a much larger user base behind them and you can purchase add on 'bench test' kits vs making your own. EF scanner will work just fine but you really need to visit a scrap yard to pull some wires to make a bench test kit. I believe BMW Explorer has details on what cables and parts you need from a scrap car to build your bench kit.

I ended up buying both models.. The 2013 full version (orange) and the 2018 full version (blue). The 2018 version is much better than the 2013 and it allows much easier coding capabilities than using ista-p. Remember to also get the 'full' version which allows programming vs just reading data. If you're using it for key programming make sure to also have HiTag. Its good for coding things like maintenance intervals, changing mileage, changing the VIN, etc. Those things can also be done in Ista and some in inpa... Though its pretty straight forward using EF Scanner. At the end of the day, inpa and ista does 85% of what ef scanner does... The remaining 15% is working with the CAS module for key programming. If you dont need to program keys just buy a DCAN cable and download inpa and ista.

@@kieferste its worked well for me so far. Just be sure to disable your internet before plugging the unit into your laptop.. Otherwise it will try to update the firmware which will brick the unit since its running cracked firmware.

@@The_North0 bmw explorer and ef scanner will both decrypt CAS3. If you are a developer and want to waste months trying to interpret hex data and then write your new key to the cas using hex data then you could use the r270. Otherwise just use bmw explorer as they have already spent the time to write the software to interpret and write hex data. Ps.. The r270 is useful to make a backup file of the cas, and to restore a bricked cas module.

It works as can start the car with the new key however I can’t use unlock or lock buttons on the key and comfort access still doesn’t work with my old key or new key. I am still trying to figure out why these things just stop working one day especially when the radio is working perfectly fine. My other Bmw’s keys fob just stopped unlock or lock for some reason. This is why I am looking to see if new key remedy the problem.

@@The_North0 the remote lock and unlock use rolling codes whereas the transponder chip is static. Thats likely why you can start the car but cant remotely lock/unlock... Unless your diversity antenna where the headliner and back glass meet has too much corrosion (from condensation)

The orange and blue ones are chinese clones of bmw explorer which means the software has been cracked to work with the chinese clone. If you purchase the Chinese clones like i have, nake sure you purchase the 'full' version and not just the scanner capabilities.

You will most likely brick your EF Scanner which will require a firmware flash. I doubt the company would send you the firmware file so you'd need to send your EF Scanner back to the seller for an exchange.

Thanks heaps for putting this full Hitag2 & BMW Explorer along with the DEFU usage, greatly appreciate it. totally agree with your the comment about the drivers. Not sure if you can help me, I followed the instruction Hitag2 & BMW Explorer and everything went fine until I went into the car and read the key but all the 8 key slot came up with 000 etc. blank. then I read the .bek file but it gave me an error it can't write the last 3 blocks hence now its showing an error. Lucky my original key still works. the car I'm writing to is a BMW e63 2006. please help.

Hi Daniel. You're very welcome! Which EF Scanner version do you have? The 2013 version is fairly limited in terms of the different CAS modules it can work with. The 2018 version, however, works on more modules/firmware versions. And to confirm, you purchased the 'full' version of ef scanner that allows for programming, not just reading, correct?

The shop only replied to me that they had no such claim like me so far and although they sold # of items. but according to your explanation, it imply that the 2018-12 version may not cover newer version of FW in CAS2. so I will try to downgrade FW to a certain level of the old version and try the key learning again to see if it can collect data. Maybe I can use the version the same as HW version.

Funny thing is that i got the software for the Hitag2, and i went to a computer store and got the cd onto a stick. When I unzipped the file it was a Trojan horse. So now I'm looking for the software for the EF Scanner. Now i don't know if the software is general or it is unit specific.

In any event, your ef scanner has specific cracked software for the model you bought. Contact the vendor you purchased from if you need another copy as it has to be the correct match.

That means the transponder has data on it... You can either solder in a new transponder.. Or purchase a PCF79xx Unlocker tool, or similar, to attempt wiping the data

@@Dremonster0415 hitag is used on the physical key and ef scanner on the cas. Ef explorer cannot read key data from the key,.. Only data that exists on the cas. Regardless, do you get any errors when ef explorer crashes? What version of the cas firmware is it running? Is ef explorer asking you to update/downgrade the cas firmware?

If your CAS firmware has not been updated, then it should work. If your CAS firmware has been updated, however, you will need to install older firmware on the bench. If you're not already familiar with CAS and do not already have a bench setup... I would suggest just paying a locksmith to write a new key for $100.

@@farisnasser298 no. A used key needs to either have the transponder chip erased, or a blank transponder chip soldered onto the key's circuit board. You cannot program a used key without doing this first. To erase a transponder requires yet another tool. New blank keys are less than $20 on Aliexpress so I dont know why you would want a used one from ebay. If you have less than 3 keys to make then it will be in your best interest to get an independent locksmith to write nee keys for you.

If your transmitter is the same frequency, and actually transmitting (you can verify this with a Nooelec SDR) you might need to initialize/sync your key fob. There are several instructions online that you can try that involve a combination of closing the doors, put the car in ACC mode, out of ACC mode and remove key from slot... etc. Have you verified that the remote buttons on your original fob work, and are transmitting on the correct frequency? Do you have a second key that does work? If your second key isn't unlocking your car then your diversity antenna might be having issues, assuming the keys are transmitting.

Im not familiar with the term 'face to face' for keys... But the Defu product listing pages tell you all the different key types it can copy, including the 'laser/wave/snake' cut on BMW keys just like in my other video

That means your CAS was updated by a dealer at some point to a newer firmware version and, in order for ef scanner to gain access, it needs to flash older firmware. This should only ever be done on a bench, and not over obd as you could brick your cas.

@@djbmw1 I updated it. The last updated for my cas was 2006 with older version even though it is a 2010 car and I updated the cas to the newer version in 2018 version 9395656 from 6112233. With BMW explorer, it’s constantly asking to update the ECU when clicked “key learning” or “isn” but with the same software number that the car was already updated with and failed stating to unplug the explorer and let the car rest for up 5 minutes and try again. Do I really need a power stabilizer that’s stable at 14.1 v? Only once it actually prompted similar message that’s shown in the video but was when the car was running. At this point, Bmw explorer is basically INPA with NCS Expert as a package because I can code with Bmw explorer as well but I can’t do anything else other than what INPA or NCS EXPERT could offer as Bmw explorer.

@@The_North0 EF Scanner would have likely worked if you had the original CAS firmware running. Since you updated it, EF Scanner is looking to downgrade it to a version that it can work with. Even though the 'version' numbers might be the same, EF scanner is manipulating the firmware to bypass the security. Its EXTREMELY risky to flash the CAS while it's still plugged into the vehicle as it's communicating with other systems/modules and could easily become bricked. You're playing with fire attempting it over OBD. This is why flashing the CAS should only ever be done on the bench. If you DO brick the CAS module, you'd have to restore the hex data in the CAS by using an R270 and soldering the leads to various points on the CAS circuit board. That's also assuming you've already made a backup of your CAS before bricking it. It seems as though 50% of the people in the comments have had success with EF Scanner and the other 50% run into the issue that you're experiencing, requiring the CAS to be downgraded in order to bypass the security.

@@The_North0 thats correct. The cheapest way is to visit a junk yard to pull parts from. Alternatively there are several companies that have already built and sell bench setups. Essentially they mimmic the electronic starting system - key module and harness, cas harness, dme and harness, obd2 connector and harness, etc. You'll also need a reliable voltage supply source.

@@paddyladdd9395 it should work so long as your CAS firmware is original and hasnt been updated at the dealer. You can use INPA to check prior to buying EF Scanner. Also,.. the 2018 Full version is a better buy than the 2013 version.

@@paddyladdd9395 to clarify, EF Scanner is a clone of BMW Explorer, but it is not identical. Both HiTag and EF Scanner have been installed on multiple systems (Win7, Win 10, and XP)... HiTag is the most troublesome to install and configure, regardless of which Windows version you're running. Yes, you'll need to run it in compatability mode. You dont NEED a laptop... but its easier than putting a full desktop computer in your car ;-)

No. The E36 uses EWS and now CAS .. so you'll need to purchase a VXSCAN BMW EWS-4.3 & 4.4 IC Adapter to read the EWS4 data and then a write the new key using an ak90+. All in you're under $100 in tools

Hi Patrum. Did your ef scanner come with software on a CD? Your scanner firmware is specific to one of 9 cracked software bundles. Its possible that you purchased an ef scanner that was not the "full" version, and therefore can only read data, and not write data. Please send me the url link to the exact model you purchased.

@@patrum90 when you access the CAS, it will start to list all of the faults in the middle upper window. In the lower window it will list "Program, Date, Version..". Thats the CAS version and firmware flash date. Its likely that the car had a firmware update thats too recent for the EF scanner to read (it can read updates to early 2017 i believe), or the specific firmware flash on yours simply isnt recognized. If either of these are the case, downgrading your firmware would work. HOWEVER.. I personally wouldnt use the ef scanner to perform a cas downgrade as its very risky and, if it fails, your cas would then be bricked (you wouldnt be able to start the car) and you'd have to invest in more tools to be able to reflash your entire CAS module.

I can see how a downgrade in the car could be problematic with all of the other modules, but there shouldnt be an issue if you downgrade on the bench (but this also means you need parts from a junk yard). What was the error that it gave you?

Each key has a unique transponder ID. "Cloning" (with hitag) an existing key does not replace the key ID... it just copies the rolling code sequences. You still, therefore, need to program your "copied" key into the cars CAS (which hitag cannot do). EF Scanner (which is a clone of BMW Explorer) is just one of many tools that can write data to your CAS module. I personally found it to be the cheapest... but its also a chinese clone and doesnt have support, nor does it always work. But... it was less than $200... where other tools by Xprog and others are over a grand.

@@fair09 the transponder ID is embeded into each transponder chip, it cannot be changed. Think of the key as a new phone with a new phone number (that cannot be changed). The phone is able to call numbers but without any contacts or numbers saved its considered "virgin". Cloning your key is like copying your phone directory from one cell pone to another. So now your new phone can "call home"... but your CAS in the car (home) is like someone with caller ID and it will refuse calls unless the callers number is saved in its safe list. Cloning a key just transfered the contact list but did not tell "home" to save its number in its safe list (programming the CAS)

Yes, all buttons work... But i havent been able to get the comfort access to work. The key fob needs to be inserted into the receiver to start the car and touching the handle doesnt lock/unlock the car. Im ok with that, however.

No. The PCF transponder chip thats soldered onto each board has a unique ID. This key ID needs to be saved into the CAS. Now... if you wanted to gain access to a car with a laptop then you could immitate an existing transponder chip ID... but thats not what my video is about.

This video shows it working on CAS3. When EF scanner reads the CAS you can see that its version number 6943814, which IS CAS3

Im not sure if i translated your comment correctly but the only blurred information in the video is data on my specific car. If you follow along using the same tools, you will see your own vehicle data coming up on the screen (key id, password, etc.). At the end of the day, if you dont want to experiment and learn how the CAS system works,.. Then just buy a key from the dealer.

Everything you use are clone, yet you seems dislike Chinese clone. Why not go to BMW to buy your none clone stuff? Unfortunately, even the BMW keys were made in China.

Thank you for your comment. The tools that I'm using are clones of other clones of non-licensed tools (the levels of corruption and IP infringement is quite vast!). The difference between ANY non-licensed programming tool and what BMW does is that the aftermarket tools add 'random hex data' to the CAS in order to bypass BMW's security/encryption. Doing this, of course, comes with risk. My comments regarding the drivers were simply that these tools DO work, they just take a bit of time to set up ahead of time. I don't believe I ever once said that I dislike the tools that I've used - after all, I have made duplicate keys and posted a video for all to see :-). As for BMW using Chinese made stuff - their software is made in Germany (and is, in fact, all in German). The OEM keys themselves are made by Siemens (a German company) - though many of the internal components are indeed made in China. The aftermarket keys shown in the video are of the same quality (30% Glass Fiber Reinforced Polyamide 12 (PA12-GF30) for the shell with silicone water ingress protection) and the internal components are of good quality.... but again, I never once said I was dissatisfied with the tools in the video. Regarding 'going to BMW to buy non clone stuff" - what do you mean? You cannot purchase key programming tools from BMW - period. You also cannot purchase blank FOBs from them. So,.. if you want to make YOUR OWN keys... you need to purchase aftermarket tools.

Excellent vid but fyi that car is not a keyless go key. Only E60/E90 with comfort access are keyless go.

Hi Mike - Thanks for watching the video. That car is an e60 530xi so yes, it has Comfort Access (can lock/unlock the door by touching the handle and start the car with the key in the pocket). The virgin key that I programmed is a CA key, but it needs to be 'synced' after being programmed - and I didnt do that in the video

@@mikealkarout9555 CA was offered as an option on E60's from September 2005 onward, as Option 322. I work on BMW's and, from the couple hundred that have passed through my shop here in Ontario Canada, over half of them have Comfort Access. I suppose, if you're spending a good chunk of change buying a new car.. what's another couple of grand for a few cool options.
