DIY BMW N54 Injector Coding via INPA

This is a short video showing you how to perform injector coding into the MSD80 ECU of an N54 engine. In this example, injector 1 is being replaced and coded in. The vehicle is 2008 BMW 335i

Those values are stamped on the injectors during the manufacturing process. The injectors contain a piezo electric element. Due to the differences in conductivity of the piezo crystals, each injector has a slightly different tolerances when it is manufactured. All injectors go through a testing process in the factory and their measured tolerances are stamped onto their casings. When you replace injectors, you simply tell the ECU what are those tolerances.

Yes it does apply to all N54 vehicles. Just follow the instructions in this video.

Short answer: Yes. Long answer: The injectors contain a special piezoelectric element inside to control the fueling. Due to the manufacturing process and the differences in the physical properties of those piezoelectric components, each injector has slightly different operating parameters. Brand new injectors are tested on the production line to determine exactly how much fuel they will flow and exactly at what voltage. Those numbers are then stamped onto the injectors and you enter in INPA

Hi, so I have been able to install INPA properly and am able to show ignition and battery on my e92 n54 however after choosing e90 I am unable to choose msd80, or anything for that matter it just says invalid... any clue or guidance on what to do?

Any way to tell if I have a D-CAN OBDII cable? I have a generic OBDII cable and can't tell. I am unable to use INPA following proper installation on Win7 w/ XP mode. XP mode recognizes the serial device though.

hi thats really what i need having inpa with me at some point i swap my injectors unknowingly and injector number 5 seems to be out of specs. its a bmw x53 e53 3.0d 2003... all im seeing on the left side of injector is many numbers which of them is enrgy and flow

You don't have these values on your injectors! You have a classic injector. The video shows a piezo injector, this one is different. You need INPA/E53/ENGINE/M57N/ACTIVATE/IMA, then copy the code from the injector that is not working properly into the table.

This is a direct injection engine. There are no larger injectors available for this engine unless port injection has been added. Port injection is usually controlled via a standalone system.

Those are the actual operating parameters for the injectors. Each injector is slightly different from the rest. They get tested on the production line and their operating parameters get stamped on them. Those parameters must be entered into the ECU in order for the injectors to function correctly. This DIY explains how to code in new injectors.

I tried this and got a little pop up message saying "ApiResultText: Error #95 SYS-0005: OBJECT FILE NOT FOUND API job error or no such result! Continue script processing?" I just changed my injectors and am trying to code them. Car I'm working on is an 07 335i with N54. It also has a jb4. Would you have any idea on this? Thanks in advance!

I have quite a few inpa softwares downloaded from various sites. Some displays MSD80 Main Menu in German, some in English. When I press F9 (System) and then Shift+F4, I get sys-0010 error message, therefore, unable to continue coding injectors. Could you offer a link for working INPA please. I am running WinXP. All other settings and configuration ok to the best of my knowledge.

It's simply INPA. You're confusing INPA with ISTA, there is ISTA/D and ISTA/P, but there's only one INPA.

How you know that? And why need to code injector if replaced more than 2? I have a problems with an 2013 BMW X3 4 cylinder engine got locked because all 4 injectors been injecting too much fuel dealer told me that I need to change 4 injectors so I changed the engine complete with injectors and the same problem same fault codes so after they told me injectors need to be code Could be that only the problem if code the injectors fuel system will work normal or could be something else? I hope you help me if you know

What's the purpose of coding a car's injectors?

With these cars, they have precise injector values to control exactly how much fuel is being injected into the cylinder and at what intervals. If you do not code the injectors, the cars computer will work off different values compared to the injectors set values, and will cause performance decrease, gas economy decrease, and engine instability. These are very fragile cars that need precise computing, unfortunately.
