After a bit of a work enforced break I am back on finishing some details on the roof and making the last couple of videos. Is there anything that you would like to see or any questions I can answer that might help?

Omg this is brilliant, been trying to find something to help me do a diy conservatory .. I’m just about to fit roof . Bit scared ! But this has helped . X

Interesting that the tie wire has been added. The fabricator I'm using has told me that Leka state that no tie bar or wire is needed unless the span is over 4 metres.

@@pg325 👍 yeah, I think you'll be fine. It's definitely overkill in our case. I walked all over the roof before the tie wire went in and no deflection. Just belt and braces approach I guess.

Am thinking about using glass fibre bitumen based roof tiles (mainly used for sheds but can be for used for other things) mainly for how easy it is to work with and how relatively light they are... bad idea or not? Thanks

Yes, I considered this option but ultimately the price difference was negligeable and the metal shingles look and feel better.

Why did you need a water barrier? Those top insulation panels - as you said previously they are water tight and also doubt they will allow any vapours through from the inside? So to me the vapour barrier seems like it's redundant?

You are correct that all being well, the fabric vapour membrane should remain redundant, but it's one of those belt and braces approaches. It also costs peanuts so it's cheap for an extra layer of insurance.

Thank you for these videos, it will save me a lot of time and money. I have a Victorian style roofed conservatory, does the people who made your roof do a Victorian design?

Yes, any decent fabricator can make any shape you need.

I've ordered my kit which is due for delivery in August, I'd be interested to know what if anything goes against the roof and house wall, I think you mention a starter trim at 3:20. I guess the flashing then comes from the house wall at sit at 90 degrees on top the shingle? I'm a bit concerns that rain could push underneath the single and onto the roof itself!

Congratulations on your order! Yes, you will need a flashing of some kind to overlap the last shingle. We haven't had any water ingress. Even if you do get water ingress, the roof cannot be damaged in the same way that a timber roof can rot and a metal roof can rust. Let us know how it goes.

@@UpsideDownFork Can I ask, did you bend the last shingle (nearest the house wall) so it would in theory drip any water ingress into the soaker tray, or just screw it down and then add lead flashing down the wall and then across, or just down the house wall into the bottom of the soaker tray (I've seen both ways), would really appreciate a picture of how you finish the lead.

@@pg325 I fitted the shingle flat and then lead flashing over the top of the soaker tray and shingle. That's what a roofer told me to do.

@@UpsideDownFork Thanks. I assume flat over the shingle by a 3 or 4 inches and then up the house face wall into the mortar joint? Unfortunately, it's not part of the Leka install guide that they've covered, but I guess they want you to use the best solution for the pitch etc.

Great job!! LEKA seems to sell their roofs only to qualified installers, how did you manage to get a kit to install yourself?

I spoke to a dozen or so installation firms and then got connected with one of the local fabricators who was really helpful. Went to his factory and got to understand how easy and well engineered the system is. It became a no brainer for me at that point.

I also have a box gutter on my conservatory and it's also terrible and is leaking during big downpours :D Don't think I can replace it with anything else like you did as it's a proper massive one - about 10m long going alongside and in between the conservatory and bungalow roof (as conservatory is attached length-wise)

Ouch, i'm sure there are ways to dispense with your box gutter but it sounds like complete roof redesign would be necessary probably of the conservatory and bungalow roofs. Box gutters are from what I can see, a cheaters way to marry two roofs together that don't belong! In my case, I got lucky really.

Box gutters are essential for certain styles of conservatory and they can be repaired. I run a conservatory repair business and we deal with leaky box gutters all the time. Where are you based?

@@AlexGnok Ah we are based along the south coast. Bit too far to come. They can be fixed, just be cautious when speaking roofers / builders. Lots of work we get is from them messing up attempting a repair.

@@michaelcoleman3630 thanks for your advice. How is it done in principal though? I was thinking to buy a long EPDM membrane (continuous so is seamless) lining and glue it on, I saw some kits available online. Or do they go and reweld all the links in the aluminium gutter?
