For some reason units you buy use negative air pressure rather than positive. I suppose that has some reason like being more efficient for the fans or better filter distribution

Yea... more air being exhausted then taken in works best

@@Novoworks i just realised another good reason. Filtering the air before reaching the fan makes sure the fan and its motor stay clean. I suppose this is also for safety as a dusty motor could provoke the 1/10000 chance of a spontaneous combustion.

Are these carbon filters safe? I notice when I touch a carbon filter, specks of black particles fall off into my hands. Do we breathe this in?

How does one know when the carbon if fully saturated and needs replacement?

Would this work for a laser exhaust to vent to? Maybe with 2 carbon filters?

You can certainly replace the MERV 11 pre-filter with a second carbon filter, or buid it as I mentioned... deeper so you can do another 2 sets of filters on the sides to increase flow. For something like a fiber laser, I would think that would work for air filtration... but would need some testing of course.

@@JESUSCHRYSLER5512 - More filters in the way of surface area (around the enclosure) would increase flow. Stacking air filters on top of each other would decrease air flow.
