Absolutely love this video. We are doing the same thing on our fireplace wall. We only have room for one Billy bookcase on each side. We frameed them in. Then we built a new wall above the fireplace that is even with the bookcases. I did a vertical ship lap on that new wall where the TV will go. Everything is done except for painting and a few trim pieces. I loved what you did!

Wow! Beautiful! I have a question about the cords and how you access them to change out the TV. Do you need to remove the fireplace? I couldn't figure out how you reached in there to plug in the fireplace and tv 😁
@KelseyRomitoDIY
@KelseyRomitoDIY 2 жыл бұрын
I really wish I would have included this in the video. I left a hole behind the tv and shiplap. I also cut holes in the side of the cabinets that touched the shiplap. I had wall outlets behind the cabinets that I accessed by cutting additional holes in the back of the cabinets. So the tv cord goes behind the shiplap. It runs down then comes out of the side and plugs in a wall outlet behind the cabinet doors. So you never see any wires. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks! I wish I would have included this in the video. The cord for the tv runs behind the shiplap and into the cabinets (I cut a hole in the side of the bookshelf). There are outlets behind the cabinets so I cut a hole in the back of the cabinets to access the outlet. The tv/shiplap area is 96” tall and about 66” wide.

Amazing! I'm attempting something similar in January. On the Ikea website the doors seem to have the handle holes pre-drilled. But your cabinet doors came without holes right? And where did you get the handles? :) Thanks in advance

So the doors are technically pretty-drilled but not all the way through. So from the front, it looks like there is no hole. Thank you! When deciding on wood for this project, I knew I wanted to go with primed pine because it’s very smooth and less expensive compared to poplar or oak. As for the size I needed, I measured from the tops of the bookcases to the ceiling because I knew I wanted it to be enclosed.

Great job. Quick question what did you do behind the tv? Did you finish that area off?
@KelseyRomitoDIY
@KelseyRomitoDIY 2 жыл бұрын
I left it open so I could access that space if I need to. I made sure the opening wasn’t too big that you could see it from the side of the tv.

I love this, but I am one of those who needs more detail. If they are just quick videos, it seems more like a vanity project. Having said that, this looks absolutely awesome, and you should be super proud.

Thanks! This was my first KZbin video and I really wish I would have broken it down into more videos so I could show more of the process.

For an European like me - it’s unbelievable how she made a hole in the wall 😂😂 My daughter wanted to do the same - we needed the expertise from an structural engineer - and then it needed a lot of time to fix it - because the wall is from concrete wall. Chapeau - good job for sure 👏 Love from Austria/Europe 🇦🇹

This was super cool. I was wondering, where and how do you connect all the wires and cables for the TV and the fireplace? 🤔
@KelseyRomitoDIY
@KelseyRomitoDIY 2 жыл бұрын
The wires run behind the shiplap center piece and through the side into a cabinet. Inside each cabinet is an outlet.

Looks amazing! wondering what kind of trim you used for the middle and did you at any point debate between the glass doors? Did you find it easier to build the mantle after?
@KelseyRomitoDIY

The trim is called lath. I didn’t want glass because I wanted closed storage.

This looks amazing! Not sure if you answered this previously, but after getting the fireplace and TV mounted how did you get them connected to the power? Did you have an outlet on the original wall and plug things in before screwing things in placing?
@KelseyRomitoDIY
@KelseyRomitoDIY 2 жыл бұрын
There are outlets on either side inside the cabinets (the outlets were already there- I just cut holes in the back of cabinet to access them). The wires run down behind tv and fireplace. I cut holes in the side of cabinets where you can’t see so the wires can come into the cabinet and access the outlet. I really wish I would have included this but this was my first video and I totally forgot. Hope this helps.

Looks great! The problem I have in general with TV’s mounted over fireplaces is that they’re always positioned too high, which makes for an uncomfortable viewing angle.
