In this tutorial I'll show you how to make a drink coaster out of buttons.
Materials:
• Tape (painter's tape or generic tape that is less sticky)
• Scrap paper
• Glue sticks (about 3)

You can if you want to. I think the uneven texture actually helps the coaster from sliding, but you can sand it if you would like :)

I'm really glad you made this tutorial, I've used this idea for my Arts & Crafts class at school because the teacher picked the recycling topic, so i made my own cup coaster and let me just say that my teacher REALLY REALLY REALLY liked it she even told me she's going to use it for her own cup and that i get a full mark for it too! How amazing is that! i rarely work hard for this class and i don't get this much grades on my projects but the teacher really liked this one so thank you so much for uploading this !! i hope that you come up with more creative ideas :) KEEP IT UP xx

You can also use a plate or plexiglass and cover it with lots of lotion, and the hot glue peels right off! :o

When the glue are hot, you can use a stick , hold down and pull it till the end. That will make your coaster looks better

With that technique you can also make cute designs and use scotch double sided tape and stick them to you bedroom walls

@Vickytorre you can buy colored glue that's glittery and colored already at wal mart or you can buy colored hot glue sticks from a certain craft store I hope I helped.

This is actually fantastic because for some god forsaken reason I saw two huge gallon ziploc bags full of weirdly colored buttons for 25 cents each at a garage sale and I bought them and they've been sitting in my closet since.

I suggest not putting anything hot on top of this considering its held together using hot glue. So instead of making a water mess on your counter or table.... or even leaving a rim on those such things. You will have hot glue stuck to your furniture instead.

You can get the buttons from wal mart basically near the craft section.

You could try evening out the glue bottom, by putting on wax paper over it ironing slightly :)

if u want to ensure the flatness, lay a peice of wax paper on it and put something flat on top of it, after it dries its easy to peel off

ONE TIP: We can cover the base by sticking a round sheet of thick Acetate sheet to it. Its transparent and smooth.

Hmm, maybe the glue used to repair shoes? It dries similar, like a rubbery texture. It might be more expensive than a glue gun though : /

Thanks! I haven't had that problem so far, so I think it's fine. The buttons seem to be enough of a barrier between the mug and the glue, and my hot beverages are never as hot as a glue gun ;)
