DIY - Cable Railing System Installation - Complete & Detailed Explanation!

Check out this video and learn how to install your own cable railing system on your deck. This is a simple and effective way to make your railing seem as if it’s not even there. The anchor systems I used have a minimalist look without turnbuckles or over complicated features. I used a system I found on Amazon by a company called Muzata. Let me know what you think!

Nice video. I would have measured to leave 1/4" or so thread exposed on the anchors after the initial tightening as the cable will stretch a bit and the posts may move a bit with time causing the need for re-tightening. I used bare stainless cable (quicker, easier and cheaper) not knowing if the plastic jacket will dry out & crack in sunlight over time. I'd also spend the $$s and use a hydraulic crimper with proper dies, worried about crimping with a cutter causing cracks/stress points on the anchors. Looks good though.

Hey Richard! No doubt in your assessment. These cables do move over time and I've had to adjust here and there but overall, I have plenty of adjustment left in all of my strings. As for the crimper, yes, I should have spent the money or rented a tool to do that. It does look good though and I can't even see them anymore. We chose the black because of our design and the plastic sheeting has actually held up great. No cracking, discoloration or nothing. I think it being aircraft grade helps. @@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Big 10-4 regarding the jig/template. Yours was very good. Can't imagine not using a simple one like I did or something better like you made.. I did shell out for a Muzata drill guide for 90- 45-30 degree hole drilling, but seems like you got along fine without one. Best wishes.

Thanks Joseph! I appreciate the compliment. And no I did not get it from Muzata. I found some 1/4” black coated stainless steel aircraft wire from Amazon and got that. It came in a roll of 500ft. I did use a lot of it and I tried finding it on Amazon but the link is disabled. I’m sure with a little search, you’ll find something similar. Good luck and let me know if you need anything else! I think for these I went between 38 and 42 inches. It all depends on what the code requirements are for your area. I had to build mine to code. Hope this helps

Hey Greg! That all depends on what you want to do. I like mine being spaced apart every 4 feet, but that works out for my deck to make everything symmetrical. However, with using this system, the further spaced your posts are the more flex you’ll probably get on the cable. I hope this helps Greg :)

Stairs? Not all complete

Hey Mr Michael. Yea so I have stairs, but according to the building code in my area, a handrail is not necessary when it's not high enough. So I was able to get without putting a handrail for the stairs. Where the stairs meet the ground, it's like a foot. Thanks :)
