Got eggs, vinegar and Epsom salts.. Save tons of money and make your own Calcium and magnesium supplement for your plants.. Works great for your entire veg and flower gardens. Can also apply as a foliar spray for pesky Blossom-end rot on tomatoes.. Cheap and easy.. Just how we like it.. Happy Growin..For educational purposes only.. EDIT: I ended adding twice the vinegar as the calcium neutralized the acid quite quickly which caused the reaction to stop. After straining off the resulting liquid, i added more vinegar to restart the chemical reaction. Thx for watching..

I'm a old timer. If you just add dolomite lime to your potting mix before planting you are good to go. It contains magnesium and calcium. Mix a cup for every 5 gallons. If you amend your mix with lime, chicken manure, banana peels along with chopped up fish you plants will be happy. Yes chopped up fish. Catch you some perch or bluegill and cut them into pieces. 👍

Hey Bill, thanks a ton for the great videos. I'm a longtime "gardener" but have just (in the past 3 years) taken my hand at indoor gardening. Needless to say, I was in for a rude awakening lol. What mother nature used to supply, I now have to provide. Every day I seem to learn something important that I've been neglecting altogethor or doing completely wrong. Apparently, I've just barely managed to have success and wondered, very much, what I was doing wrong. But sure enough, with the help of many sources (like yourself), my thumb gets greener and greener. So again, thank you very much for your uploads. Bare in mind that you are helping many people through the information you post. These are indeed crazy times and the horizon is clouded with uncertainty and financial instability for millions of people. So growing medicine at home is sometimes the best or only option.

Warning (!): I've had the same idea but it turns out that Magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt) cannot be combined with Calcium Acetate, because the reaction of Magnesium Sulfate + Calcium Acetate = Magnesium Acetate + Anhydrite (Calcium Sulfate) - a form of calcium that doesn't dissolve (it all gets precipitated) and is not available to plants directly like calcium acetate would. The best way to this is to get some quicklime (CaO + MgO) powder and put that instead of eggshells. You'll end up with calcium acetate and magnesium acetate, which are immediately absorbed by plants (and humans). Quicklime has various concentrations of CaO and MgO so get the numbers of it to know your final percentages, usually its 46% CaO + 3.4% MgO.

Do u still use vinegar will agriculture lime stone work also thx for ur comment
@BState
@BState Жыл бұрын
@@jasonpelton7252 Agricultural limestone is primarily made up of calcium carbonate without any magnesium. When calcium carbonate and acetic acid (vinegar) react, the products of this reaction are calcium acetate, water, and carbon dioxide. So yes you can do it but you will only have calcium acetate. If you'll add magnesium sulfate to it then the same problem will happen, calcium acetate will become calcium sulfate and will precipitate out of the mix. You will then have only magnesium acetate as the active compound.

Great idea and video, thank you for sharing the knowledge. I knew there was a way to make this, used to see my grandmother use eggshells all the time and there were always eggshells in her garden. We have ducks and chickens and some big oak trees that I use to make my own dirt, I never trow away leaves, I have some amazing dirt made from years of leaf decay. I mix that black dirt with coco and vermiculite, then I mix in some chicken/duck dirt with some ground up feathers, this I put deep in the pots, I put it in first then the blk dirt and coco vermic mix.

@@BillWard420 I was wondering something. Do your Cannabis plants create a memory from the Light periods? Do the plants know when the timers/lights are going out and start to wilt a little around the time the lights are going to go out? I have noticed this may be happening to some plants. Can the plants get to much light and want to rest some or is it just memory that the plant is showing us? The Wilting goes away about an hour or so after the lights go out so it is nothing else that I can figure out but this has been happening now for about a week or so with White Widow CBD that is almost 3 wks from seed. Thanks for any answers from anyone on this subject.

Is this correct? 1 cup ground, heated egg shells 1-2 c Vinegar let shells dissolve in vinegar for a week or two Strain resulting liquid Should have about 1 cup of liquid, which you add 1 tablespoon per 2 gallons to your feed Also, have you thought about just buying a calcium carbonate supplement and using that? I'm kind of inclined to do that and just use the eggshells in soil. A couple google searches indicate you could substitute the supplement essentially equally to the eggshells by weight. Looks like it might be pretty cheap to do. Thanks.

@BillWard420
@BillWard420 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Hexadecimal 110 (awesome name btw), You need to give time for the acid to break down the calcium carbonate to it's available calcium acetate form.. I did end up adding another cup of vinegar after a few days as the calcium raises the ph to a point where it does not react with the shells anymore. The end result will be a diluted form of Calcium acetate which should be shelf stable for quite a long time... I have not tested the ppm's of it.. Thx for the question bro.. ✌😎

Does cooking the egg shells remove any of the benefits? Guessing there's other ways to clean and dry the shells. Really just curious about heat effects on the shells.
@BillWard420
@BillWard420 4 жыл бұрын
Hey JAYxPEE. Cooking the shell is just to remove the membrane on the inside to create more surface area for the acid to work on.. The shell is just calcium which isn't affected by the heat.. Thx for watchin bro.

What about the bleaching agent used on eggs to make them white
@BillWard420
@BillWard420 4 жыл бұрын
White eggs in the United States are not bleached, contrary to popular internet belief. The color, instead, depends on the kind of chicken that is laying the egg, and it usually corresponds with the color of the chicken's earlobe

Bill so I used 18 egg shells and got 1/2 cp of ground up egg shells added 1/2 cup of vinegar. Is that all I'm getting is just a half cup of liquid calcium? I don't add any water? Then add 1/8 tp of Epsom salt and I'm done . Add 1 ml to one liter. Thanks Bill!
@BillWard420
@BillWard420 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Wild Otter. I added an edit in the description.. This should help. EDIT: I ended up adding twice the vinegar as the calcium neutralized the acid quite quickly which caused the reaction to stop. After straining off the resulting liquid, i added more vinegar to restart the chemical reaction. I add about a teaspoon per gallon.

Wood ash might be a bit simpler of a source of calcium. But definitely a great idea.
@BillWard420
@BillWard420 4 жыл бұрын
Thx brother..Wood ash contains calcium carbonate as its major component, representing 25 or even 45 percent, whereas egg shells are 100% Calcium. That's why i went with shells.
@steveallen984
@steveallen984 4 жыл бұрын
Wood ash is a good source of potash. I use it in organic composting but for a quick nutrient fix if you want to do ashes it will screw the PH of the water then eventually your soil. I do usually from 3 to 5 compost mounds a year that are easily 4 feet high and 6 feet wide. What's not mixed into the soil is brewed into teas and I never need to add anything but water. I even foliar feed with it. But I live close to the shore and I have access to mountains of seaweed which load the compost with not just the usual NPK but also calcium, manganese, copper, iron, sulfur and easily 10 other trace minerals plants need to build up a strong defense against mold and bugs and in the fall it just dumps (stacks) big calyx's loaded with trichomes when they're flowering. It's all about the prep. I've been busting my a** for 2 months preparing for the season (outdoors) so it's ready in the amounts I need. Now all I do is water in the morning. I watched Bill's videos because now he's got me doing auto's inside for the first time which I wasn't sure what to expect and I've been training "somewhat" as he does. And damn I have some really nice big auto's growing from this compost. I thank Bill for the info because I didn't know about timelines on veg or flower cycle. I'm at 6 weeks, one's been flowering for 2 weeks all the others are just starting and they're huge. I was wondering if they weren't photo's by mistake but they're showing to many flowers to early to not be auto's. One is blueberry indica from ILGM and the smell is so nice my girlfriend actually isn't complaining for once lol. I gassed us both so bad last year with one seriously strong diesel plant I dried inside last year we both got headaches from it lol. She said never again lol. Funny thing about that is I told her if I had to choose you know who's going don't you lol. Maybe that's why she likes my indoor blueberry indica lol? Sorry I got carried away and babbled on but there's something satisfying about taking a seed and growing a bush/tree in a matter of months that you can put in words. But hey I tried lol. Good luck with your grows
