Nice job! I spoked up a 3 speed hub to my motor bike wheel powered by a clinton 2.75 hp 2 stroke back in 1965. Just be careful and don't down shift or you could sheer the gear in the hub. Tanks for sharing your fabricating and engineering skills. Most professional work!

It's an Idea I've had for a long time and never got around to it. I might have given up before I got this far. I would have tried to retain pedals. A sprag clutch from a freewheeling rear hub in the crank would enable pedals to free wheel

About 25 years ago I built one but with the engine on a rack on the front wheel. Using a rear wheel on the front for 7 speeds. It probably would have been better to make it like an old solex and drive a rubber roller direct to the tyre. But there was not much else to do in my small town and I had access to all thr junk I wanted lol

@@tauncfester3022 On the contrary, he reinforced the frame, he moved the tube from the bike upwards and welded it, which makes the frame more stable. As a result of the laying, a larger, more stable triangle was formed, which is stronger than the original connection. He also welded all the square tubes that hold the engine, which further strengthens the whole thing. So don't talk nonsense if you have no idea about such things!

@@bmw-braca You haven't built a quality bike frame have you? Cutting tubes with a abrasive disc grinder and then crudely tack welding them back in with a cheap flux core MIG isn't "reinforced". I've worked in the bicycle frame building industry, this is how you become a statistic from your own Darwin award.

Thank you! Yes that's right, welding still needs some practice, although I have to say that at the time I only had a 1mm thick wire for my Co2 welding machine and it is not so suitable for thin sheet metal, 0.6mm wire would have been much better, that's why I did more spot welding.

Look around for a Parkside gasless machine...very good and not too expensive... great for thinner materials... especially bike frames.. I too am building a scooter using a bike frame... 0.6 is a better size...you can also get the right amount of penetration..and have more control over the amps. Worth checking it out.. You have a great future, if given the right advice and support... don't waste your talent... Your young... l'm old..😅

You can buy a good small dual purpose motorcycle that's faster (incase you need it in a sticky situation) and a real fuel tank that holds enough to actually get you there and back for a lot less than someone who doesn't have or have access to the tools and equipment and parts and would have to buy them.

Tip, when bending sheet/strip at a line by scoring a groove with the grinder bend the metal TOWARDS the scored groove not away since there is then less danger of the metal tearing at the groove. Nice build Dude! (Some neat details).

You're right, but the problem is that the groove is not wide enough and this prevents a complete 90 degree bend in the direction of the groove with thick sheet metal because the corners of the groove meet earlier before you have reached 90 degrees. That's why I bent it outwards, which will end up being welded anyway. Thanks for the tip, if the bend is less than 90 degrees your advice is correct.

Not legal is correct. Therefore I feel some stealth is required in the design and the pull start attachment is a giveaway. I did see parked thirty years ago , a bike that had only the chainsaw motor without the pull start mounted in front of pedal crank body . It was in full view but not really very noticeable. Thirty years ago back then , any motorised bikes didn't attract police attention like happens today . So I have a project bubbling in my mind .

Stunning build by the way! The level of detail is amazing. I would build it the same way, except I would rig up a slightly larger engine (4-8hp) and then put on a mini turbo with a mini intercooler and oil cooler with a self-contained oil pump and cooler. Maybe even rig up an inverter with a small lithium Ion batt pack powered an in hub electric motor in the front wheel. Plus add a small bank of "Super Capacitors" that would store energy to be used as an electrical form of nitrous. It would most assuredly have a boost button on the handle bar or even on the frame, hidden. Your build is epic though! I love how solid you made everything on that bike. Just needs some mountain bike (or rock hopper) style suspension and that thing would amazing off-road as well. Great work sir! Definitely subscribing after that video.

It really is the best one I have seen to. I built a chainsaw bicycle and it worked pretty good it was a little bit over geared but once I got the speed up it worked pretty good. I have a 21 speed that I want to do another one with gears to the chainsaw engine only has high rpm torque so gears is what it needs to function properly

Unfortunately I haven't had time to test it yet but as soon as I know I'll tell you, but I guess that 20 to 25km per liter is possible, maybe more or less.

Great build, and you can always port the cylinder for more power maybe build a expansion chamber exhaust for it. Or get really creative and build a big bore kit for it. Use a motorcycle carb, push it to 80-100cc , maybe even build a 2cylinder version, you can mill the cylinder base to raise the compression. If you do not want to port the cylinder to get the port timing back. And the power is off. You can use another base gasket to get it back in time. The additional compression will help power. My concern is the clutch. I have never seen a clutch like that not slip , it's how it works. Maybe it can be modified to atleast use a go kart clutch. They can be modified by cutting the weight in multiple pieces so it contacts the bell in more even contact patch . Then modify the spring pressure to engage at a high enough rpm to not slip. It's best to not ease on the throttle, go near full on to take off . Of course letting off of it is slipping . I saw very few things I would have done differently. I have several saws. I'd maybe try something like this, I also have a few Chinese scooters 4stroke 50 and 150cc. I built one, it does 45mph fairly quickly. With a 330 lb rider! It's 82cc oversized valves, carb, exhaust, ported head, high compression piston. I want to mill the head for more compression. The head I got for larger valves is for a 52.4mm bore, I'm running a 50 mm bore. And this cost some compression, if I can mill the head 0.8- 1.2mm, the valves have a week of clearance. The only possibility of an issue would be the timing chain, it also has a NYC cam. It has basically everything possibly done to get more performance. I could go to the larger bore for 86cc, and get the stroker crank to get 96cc with the largest bore. Bring 6'5" over 300 lbs on a tiny scooter, it's dangerous being on something Soo slow! Stock I would have a 🦥 sloth yelling at me to get out the road! About , 20mph top speed, 25-30 down hill. Now down hill is fast as I want to go on a scooter, 65mph, if I could get enough power to do 55-60 on flat land without revving to 10k, I have seen 10,200+/- but changed the spring and weights it was revving beyond it's power band. About 8800-9200 possibly 9500 is peak of the peak, maybe it could do better with a more appropriate cam. I been thinking about getting one custom ground. Or possibly building a cam from a motorcycle cam of the same head and valvetrain design. Cutting and pressing the lobes on to a steel shaft. Id really like to build a 2 cylinder version, using the 52.4mm bore, and large valves. Ported head. A couple 20mm carbs over the stock 18.5mm carb, and build a custom exhaust, with 1.25" pipe, with header pipes all the way to the muffler, and build a 'X' pipe. With the internal baffle from 1.5" or 1.75" pipe, use a hack saw to cut slits every 0.75" and use a punch to make louvers. About 1/2" wide and 1/8" -3/16" deep. Also drilling a ton of 3mm holes between the louvers. Put that inside a 2.5" or 3" pipe about 12" long with a 45° slash cut on one end. Make a cone to close the inlet end. And a offset cone for the outlet fill it with ceramic wool and make an access slit to repack. A 1.5" wide x 9" strip. Have a 3" wide 11" strip with rivets every 5/8" on center. With a gasket behind it, possibly weld a 3"plate over the area then cut it out to have thicker metal to attach the cover to. I have also thought about rolling a piece of expanded metal over a 1.75"pipe. And cut long strips of pipe 1/2" wide 10" - 11" long to weld over thr expanded metal with a 1/16" gap. With 3-4 around the expanded metal baffle . To direct the exhaust flow keeping it in a pipe shape as it flows through, the sound from combustion should be absorbed by the high temperature ceramic wool possibly use another piece of expanded metal to keep the wool pushed up against the 3" outer shell, leaving about 2" - 2.25" for the baffle. Make the inlet end a couple of 3/16" plates with a 1.75" center hole and 6 perimeter bolts to bolt to another plate with a 1.5" x 3" sq tube. With the end going from 3" to 1.75-1.8" at an angle. So it's centered making the sides flair out from 1.5" to 1.75" about 3mm per side. Then using a hammer flatten and square the header pipes that enter the rectangle shaped collector, using the flat side of the collector to attach a mounting point. Using 3/4" wide flat 1/8" bar. Also about mid way from the heads make another rectangle 1.3" x 2.4" (+/-) and about 2-3" long. To allow the pipe to make an 'H' shape inside and be sealed in the rectangular part. Designed to equalise the flow. Allowing each cylinder to use both pipes for free flow hopefully creating a low pressure to pull the exhaust out, I have also thought about using a 18gauge 1x2 as the baffle. With 'v's and 'L's in the flow path, to direct the flow over the v's welded in the center of the rectangle tube, drill the sides full of 3mm holes wrap with ceramic wool, and place it in a 3' pipe. It should have a deep sound , use a 3mm plate for the inlet, with a 1"-1.5" pipe, slightly oval to fit the width. And a 18 gauge sheet for the outlet with a rectangle outlet, maybe cut little 1" squares to weld in the end of the rectangle tube 1/2" on center, to look like a vent! The only difference in the mounting of the engine will be the mounts needing to be wider with different spacers. A 3/16" 'Y' for the fuel line. It should be same same for everything else. I'd definitely want to build the crank to use a center main bearing, the others I saw built didn't use a center bearing. It will just require a center main crank pin and bearing press the crank together. Pin it if it's being pinned. Make a plate the bearing fits inside. It needs to fit the case and have a oil supply. I think 3/4" aluminum plate will work, weld the two layers together at the bearing. With the second layer about 5/8" larger on both sides of the bearing. Mill to the thickness, to fit , split it across the bearing hole. Drill and tap holes for the plate to bolt back together. (Or leave it as a single piece. Requiring the crank to be pressed apart to be removed.) Weld in , 3/4" x 3/4" strips in the case fillet welds as well as plug welds, to hold them in securely drill and tap mounting holes with dowel holes possibly holes from the outside of the case, for m6 bolts to secure the main bearing flange, also drill a oil passage for the bearing ,. Drill & tap a hole from the exterior of the case, to feed the new main. Use a external 3mm tubing to tap into the oil to the head, drill two .040" holes in the plate at the bearing. For oiling , also running a line to the head to oil the cam and cam bearings, id like to also add a center cam bearing. Or bushing, using the bushing to supply oil to a passage inside the cam. With .020" holes drilled in the base circle of the cam lobe, drilled into a 3mm passage. Coming from a split brass bushing with a 6mm groove 3mm deep into a 2mm cross drilled hole in the journal. Into the through drilled 3mm hole. With a 6mm x 6mm hole in the end with a grub screw plug to seal the passage, possibly groove the bushing to spray oil to the roller bearings on each end of the cam. And the chain and cam rocker followers. The oil holes will oil the lobes, especially with a bit of Lucas, making the oil tacky. Two 82 or 86cc cylinders, making 5-6hp plus each, hopefully with a ground cam designed for performance, not a tractor like all the available cams seem to be. And the heads milled and matched after welding together. Getting 200-210psi or 195-210psi roughly. It now has 163psi. Over the 145+/- it had stock, with the added compression, and with the added compression it will likely need the 3rd bearing to keep the crank stable at 10k rpm, and obviously id work hard to balance the crank rods every thing rotating to the best possible. To lower the stress. It may require adding a external oil pump. Or additional oil pump driven by the timing chain. Use 1/4" or 3/8" external lines , also using a spin on remote mount filter with oil cooler, probably just solder on flat pieces of copper to the copper tubing, and roll grooves in the copper to make .040" deep , 'fins' inside the tubing for extra surface area. To help the fins work. Or coil up some 16 gauge wire and solder it to the inside, flux and pour molten solder through the hot tubing, with the fins from 1" copper squares to form a oil cooler. Being the tube is 1/8" larger than it really needs to be. The internal fins should be fine. Being about 12" -18" of finned tube. It should cool plenty. Add a temp gauge to be sure the oil is hot enough. It needs to get hot enough to evaporate water than condensed in the case. About 200° since the parts heating the oil is hotter, it should be close to 8-9+HP per cylinder, tickling 20hp that would be awesome, to see 18-20hp at 8700-9000rpm it original made about , 2 HP at 7500-8500 rpm, it does have some vibration issues, it's never going to be perfect, maybe build a boxer haha! Or add a balance shaft! 😆, anyway, sorry to ramble if you are still here, have an awesome day, great video!! ✌️

The result is so interesting, that I would notice a lil' particular, at least to me, "unfitting" with such a good work, that is the brakes kind: being you so good as you showed in the vid, and having built a bike capable to reach 45 kph, I think that with a small work more you could replace those old kind brakes with the typical mountainbike kind, with its way more efficient leverage system, and a way more reliable and safe braking.

Inside the hub there are planetary gears and a mechanism that switches between 3 gear ratios. The mechanism that I built outside with the spring and the cable is built so that I can adjust the whole thing perfectly. My problem was that the old hub gearshift and the Shimano gearshift lever don't have the same shift travel, I had to compensate that with my own construction. In addition, the gears in the hub were in the reverse order of 3,2,1. I solved this by installing the spring to keep the transmission in 1st gear the whole time until I upshift. I hope I was able to explain it to you well.

Thank you! I didn't look closely at it, but it would have to be around 280 - 330 hours, it's over 1.5 months of pure work, 7-9 hours every day.

Very unique and clean build 👍 Tip: You can power the bike without sacrificing the chainsaw... I have created a chainsaw bike a few years ago and ever since then I have been coming up with new ideas for a new chainsaw bike. They make cheap stihl Ms 660 clones which have a lot of power and I'm going to use a chainsaw drill attachment for the gear reduction. I'm sure you get the idea I have in mind. I still want to use the chainsaw for cutting wood so I have to build it in a different way.

Amazing work. Did you wear out the grinder? Now you need to add back the pedals to make it legal as a motorized bike in the USA. Need to change that motor to a 4 stroke also.
