I would love to learn how to properly deep clean a gas stove CMS style please. Also, I have enjoyed learning what certain substances can be used to clean more efficiently than store bought chemicals, and was wondering if oxyclean mixed with anything, might deep clean carpet stains or do you think that could be to harsh on carpet fibers. As it cleaned the grease from oven vents I have high hopes for pet stained areas. What are your thoughts?

Melissa love your videos...Bought your microfiber clothes and use the waffle weave in my bath to wipe down my glass doors and tile. Seems to help ward off any mildew growth. I eliminated Pledge cleaner for wood. Just dust with a damp microfiber and follow up with a dry one and works great. I gave up dryer sheets for wool dryer balls love that they are non toxic. Thanks for all your great ideas...Happy Reno! its hard but well worth it.

I grew up in a home where my mom cleaned primarily with harsh chemicals, especially bleach. She literally had 15-20+ bottles of different cleaners... The only commercial cleaner I buy is Lysol. It's safe to use on almost any surface and works harder than vinegar on yucky stuck on stuff that won't come off with vinegar. :) I also use Lysol wipes occasionally, but I try not to use them too often since they are hard on the environment. Edit: actually I also buy toilet bowl cleaner.

What kind of pot is that at 9:01? I've been wanting to get a good stock pot / soup pot. I see yours has that thick bottom (I'm guessing it's an aluminum disk surrounded by stainless steel) that is supposed to be good for maintaining even heating across the whole bottom instead of having hot spots.

I was glad to see you using Dr. Bronner's Castille Soap. They are a great, ethical company that I like to support & their products are natural & multi-purpose in themselves. People travel or go camping w/ Dr. Bronner's because it can be used to wash hair, body, hands, dishes, and to hand wash laundry. I'm sure there are other uses, too. Those are just the ones helpful when traveling, esp. backpacking, b/c you don't need a lot of different products.

How does Barkeeper's Friend compare to Comet & Ajax? Have you ever tried salt as an abrasive cleaner for things like grills & surfaces where baking soda isn't abrasive enough, but where the surface won't be damaged by scratching? (I'm assuming salt will scratch surfaces although that doesn't matter on anything on which you would use steel wool, for example.)

One of the things that you can do with your vinegar is to take left over orange and lemon that you have squeezed all the juice out of put it in a big mason jar cover it with the vinegar and leave it for several weeks and then strain out lemon or orange. Your vinegar will smell left vinegar and more lemon or orange. It's a great way to you use those pieces of lemon or orange.

Steam mops work great too! Cleaners we can do without? Many! Cleanser, though I do use BKF sometimes, as you do. Any window cleaner, because vinegar will do the job. Of course, having MF towels is a must. Using near boiling point hot water will actually melt some grime away, just keep your fingers away from the water for a few seconds as it cools down. We have a Tiger hot water dispenser near the sink and use it daily. Cleaners we still use are toilet bowl cleaner, though a MM cleaning concoction may work. We always have Dawn DW soap on hand, as it’s recommended as an additive to home made solutions and a little goes a long way! But, having BS, vinegar, lemon juice, rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, bleach, Borax, salt, essential oils and MF cloths will do almost anything and save a lot of $$$. Love your ideas--

@@TheRealSabrinaDeep, duvets tend to be packaged in sealed storage bags and should be OK. Towels that are loose on the shelf in the store or sheets that are simply tied with a ribbon, not so much. There are at least 2 videos were this is discussed. The first is in their previous home before the kitchen renovation and the second if after. They should be searchable on both their KZbin channel and website.

What’s the best way to clean acrylic tubs???
@sellyourhomenowbook

Ok I flip houses. Once I had a tub that was 😰. I used: foaming cleaner that didn't work. Rinse used vinegar. Nope rinsed. Used a variety of soaps rinse well and comet rinse well. Nope. We 40 nope rinse well. At this point it was destroy the tub and replace. So I thought oven cleaner. Run the fan. Spray on. Worked amazingly well. Only a last resort if no other choice and you're going to tear it out if it doesn't work.

I have hardwood floors, but they’re old and not nearly as tightly put together as they once were. Will your hardwood cleaner be ok when it seeps into the cracks?

Does the baking soda-dish soap paste work on acrylic bath tubs or will it scratch the surface?

I love your diy cleaners. My daughter became sensitive to bleach and cleaners with strong fragrances, having breathing issues. So many cleaners use bleach that I was at a loss as to how to clean and disinfect without it. But I found your diy videos, bought myself spray bottles and your 8 cleaning ingredients and started making my own. The only thing I havent seen is a wood furniture polish, unless I missed it.

Wood cleaner/polish is 1/3 lemon juice and 2/3 veg oil. put in a covered jar and shake. It stores well.

Mix 1 cup water and 1 cup vinegar in spray bottle/jar and add in 1 tablespoon olive oil. Mix well. Spray directly on surface or rag and rub clean.Make sure to occasionally shake your solution because as we all know: oil and water/vinegar separate!

I have the same issue, use white food safe mineral oil or beeswax, do not use corn olive or coconut oil, they go rancid. 2pts oil 1pt vinegar and 10 drops lemon oil or lemon juice. If your wood is not dirty just use oil. Just make sure it's food grade mineral oil. I'm not sure how to use beeswax, but I know it's an alternative to petroleum products. Oh and an extreme sensitivity to scents can be a sulfa allergy, which is what I have. Good luck!

Do essential oils mix well with vinegar?
@katietatey

Since watching your channel and reading your book I've eliminated bleach for the most part. Also no longer buy any commercial all purpose or window cleaners, fabric softener (I got the wool balls and they work great), tub and tile cleaner, and my latest favorite is your toilet bowl cleaner! I do have a growing collection of essential oils, though... Haha!

I tried that castile soap a while back as my body wash and I put some in a foaming pump bottle for hand soap but it revealed that I have eczema that I never knew I had and it made it flare up. That was a bummer cause I liked the texture of the soap and the way it made me feel really clean.

It might be the scent. Does the baby/unscented one cause a flare up too?

For the all purpose cleaner it’s just soapy water that dries up and sits there? Is residue left on some surfaces after it dries from the soap?

I use 50% water and 50% vinegar for mold. Spray the area, let it sit for a few minutes and then wipe it away.
