Great video. As for the hose bursting (IMHO & having 40 years of experience in the liquid & compressed gas business) you always, always want to evacuate the pressure in a CO2 hose when not in use. CO2 is very temperature sensitive building up pressure when trapped as temperatures rise. Also CO2 becomes corrosive when it is exposed to moisture. I know that may sound strange but I have seen first hand where CO2 cylinders rust out from the inside & fail hydrostatic testing. In the field of gas cylinders, they are referred to as the "Sleeping Giant". For anyone using CO2 cylinders, always educate yourself & respect what they are capable of doing.

Made snow machines for years. Always have a high grade top tier regulator with a dial for readout. You will be amazed how just cracking open a valve will produce incredible PSI. Take a few years to see the dial and how much of input is required to get the proper psi. Newbies need a dial to read. Glad you did not loose an eye.

When connecting the regulator to the tank, I'm sure you don't have to mount it verticle. I think you can can't it to the 11o clock position to gain a lip clearance for your hose. Tanks for the video

You could get a regulator adapter to space the regulator out from the cylinder. They’re pretty cheap.

Buy letting your hose and tank freeze up it’s no wonder it broke! Every time it freezes up it is damaging the hose / metal fittings so it’s likely to be as much of the problem as the regulator. Meaning you can not say it’s one over the other. But great video
@FortuneOffRoad
@FortuneOffRoad 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude! All Co2 systems like this have to endure sub-freezing temperatures. This new regulator doesn't freeze up and neither does the hose. It was 100% the old regulator, and I'm trying to urge folks to not go with it. Unless you can find a way to prevent the freezing... not sure how to do that though. 🤷🏼‍♂️

@@FortuneOffRoad no I get the the regulator and valve’s do go threw Extensive testing freezing heating and back again but the air hoses do not that’s what I meant sorry if I misspoke and said it wrong! Again great video thanks

Most likely your regulator is just fine. Co2 in a tank is liquid. Yeah it’s hard to believe. Most likely your passing liquid through your regulator, then the liquid co2 is evaporating on the low pressure side of the regulator causing pressure to go beyond set point. Make sure you keep tank upright. Put a relief valve on the low pressure side of regulator.

Curious, did you check the actual pressure with a gauge. Normally, if an air hose bursts, it's on the hose itself, not at the connection.

Does your CO2 tank have a dip tube in it? If so, you're venting liquid CO2 straight into the hose instead of gas. It won't matter what the regulator is rated for. That would cause the hose to fail. Tanks with a different color on the dome (like yours) indicate a siphon/dip tube.

Ya know. I'm definitely no expert on these tanks, but that would be a good question for me to ask next time I swap tanks. I've been good with everything since swapping regulators. Peace of mind knowing the psi isn't crazy high.

Great video! A couple of years later, how is that regulator holding up? Any freeze-ups? I have a very similar set up, but just had a really bad freeze up while on the trail the other day. It was so bad that it stopped filling my tires. Fortunately, my buddy had his compressor.

Before I saw the whole video I was going to say get a "real" regulator with input and output gauges. Then the full output is controlled within the strong brass housing. Once the output knob is set, I would leave it there so as to not wear it out, opening and closing all the time. Use just the main valve to open and close. With the output set you should be safe. Also, as far as the clearance with the quick connect fitting, it looks like you can reorient the valve so that the quick connect comes out the right side of the handle.

Why bother shipping out a 1.5 inch hex when you need 3 inches? It is impossible to find the 3 inch hex so instead of making one online purchase now you have to make two. Keep the 1.5 and just ship the 3 inch hex and have happier customers.
