Great vid! Just my 2 cents... I bought a 20lb aluminum CO2 tank about 9 years ago, a 150psi regulator from power tanks competition. No problems ever! One tank can take all 4 my 35x12.5x15 from 10psi to 35psi about 8 times. Here in Las Vegas you get a tank exchange for $13!you don’t get to keep your original tank but $13 and no waiting to fill up your tank? Super convenient! Plus hydroponic supply stores are open all hours of the day/night. If I blow a bead the CO2 is great to re-seat the tire bead. I run an impact gun to change a tire. Your previous video on 4 tire inflation? Well I made one thanks to you and it changed my life!!! All 4 wheels at once with the CO2 was crazy fast! I was going to purchase a set of monster valves, but my rims are too nice to drill extra holes through 😅 We love your videos! Keep up the great work!

I've had my Powertank in my TJ for about 10 years now and it's been great. It's mounted using the aluminum bracket at the rear corner of the passenger side. The Powertank is always available which is nice, no power needed. I've never run out of gas on the trail by simply by keeping aware of how approximately much is in it it before hitting the trail. The only drawback to the Powertank is that no matter how fast you can air up, you're still going to be standing there watching the person with the slowest compressor air their tires (lol). But that is not a Powertank issue! One thing I do to conserve CO2 ($$'s), is to air up to only 25psi at the trail's end and finish airing up at home with my garage compressor. The bigger the tires, the more CO2 ($$'s) you save. Driving on 35's at 25psi is just fine for close-to-home runs. When traveling back more than 100 miles from home, I'll air up to full pressure. Anyway, over the years I think it may have added up to saving enough for a cheese burger and a few beers! lol

One last thing, not sure if you mentioned it but for those who may not know, the Powertank contains LIQUID CO2 in the tank, not compressed. When you open the tank valve, the liquid converts to high-pressure (about 750psi) gas. So there is a LOT more high-pressure gas coming out of a 10 gallon liquid CO2 tank than if it were simply compressed. One 10 gallon compressed gas tank couldn't air up all those tires.

10 years is one heck of a long term test! Great to hear you are still loving it after all this time. Also, excellent point regarding the CO2 in liquid form. Thank you!

I have the same “problem” waiting around as my buddies refill tires with their compressors. I like to take my PowerTank and sneak over and fill the side they haven’t done, the look on their faces is the best. “Wait... you’re already done? And you filled all mine too? In the same time it took me to do 2 tires?!?” PowerTank is the BEST!!

Been running a Powertank 15 Since 2003. No regrets. I do have an ARB compressor under the hood for lockers and back up. Only had to use it once to fill up tires and that was because I was running tools to fix some break downs with the group.

LOVE my PowerTank, used it in my FJ for 6 years but almost got rid of it after we moved to North Carolina. I couldn't find a place to refill it for 6 months. I called all over the surrounding area and no one could do it. Gave it one more try and FINALLY found a place in my home town that can do it and also do the hydro test when the time comes. I did wind up getting a VIAIR 400 so now I have back up. Keep up the GREAT videos Brad.

I love EVERYTHING about my PowerTank. Bought it at EJS several years ago, and been using it faithfully ever since. I mounted mine on the roll bar in the back, same spot as yours. Refilling my Powertank was a challenge at first, I did a paintball shop and they didn’t do it right, because it ran out after refilling a single set of tires. I was really disappointed but not terribly surprised because the kid at the paintball shop didn’t seem to know what he was talking about. I found a welding shop in American Fork, UT called “Humphreys” and they recognized the tank right away, knew exactly what to do and cost me $20. Long live PowerTank!

I have a powertank for my Jeep and love it. It is very well thought out. The on-off collar you mentioned is actually a safety mechanism to prevent you from removing a tool that is energized. You can imagine what a projectile they could become with 200 psi behind them. What I like the most about my system is the quietness.

I have a home made 20lb co2 setup and I love it. It's such a cheap yet good option I bought my 20lb tank for $130 and the Regulator for $40 and its only $20 to swap tanks out at my local weld shop and it last to ever and I love that I can run my 3/4" impact gun on it and have it hit at full Strength. I have a 10lb tank I use at work when I need air tool and can't take a Air compressor with me or get enough air hose to reach where I'm working and I have to pack my stuff in to work on a remote bridge that needs some minor repairs

Hey Brad. I bought a PowerTank a few months back. I was frustrated with cheap air compressors. You can't beat the speed to inflate tires with PowerTank. Also because its portable you can move it from one vehicle to another with ease. All in its worth the high price tag and all the components are so well made.

I just purchased one of these systems about a month ago, and man can I tell you it's saving me so much time from filling up my 35" tires vs using a GOOD vlair compressor. I went from about 12-15 minutes per tire to take them from ~15-18 PSI to 35 PSI in just about a minute Very happy with this product, although the pricing is very steep. Needed, no. quality of life, yes!

The tank is basically a small 50 cubic ft scuba tank only filled with CO2 in stead of compressed air .. The regulator is a different system but the tank boots are the same .. If you were diver you could actually use your scuba system in the same manner .. The full size scuba tanks run about 80 cubic ft at 3,000 psi which would be a lot of air to fill your tire or run your tools and they are easy to get a refill .. Looks good .. Thanks for sharing ..

I have used power tanks for 17 years now, I still have my ARB for the air lockers but I used power tanks for everything else, In Ohio, we don't air down much in the mud bogs but using them for power tools are a lifesaver off-road, I even used it once to cool my old winch in a very bad situation . And i can't say enough good about their couplers

Hi Brad. First off I really enjoy your videos. I run CO2, it’s a little expensive. My biggest issue is the gas is permeable, so over time in leaks through the rubber in the tires. That’s okay for off roading, but I was using mine on just about everything that takes air. It took me awhile to figure out why my tires were needing air so often. So now I strictly use the tank for the jeep. It also has saved me from needing to refill. I hope this helps.

Great video Brad. I have a CO2 system as well but it’s not a powertank. I went with smittybilt due to a Black Friday sale....now I’m stuck buying a new gauge because it’s not accurate and quick disconnect fittings because they leak. Thinking of a second tank just to have. Will definitely buy a powertank. Very high quality stuff. I used my friends. Nothing leaked and gauge was accurate.

Only problem I have ever had with my system is the band that holds the tank to the mount. I think the hook should be a bit more generous and reliable. Actually lost my power tank on the trail at high-speed on one occasion. Tank went flying down the road into the ditch. No damage at all and I still use it. Have applied a ratcheting tiedown strap around the tank and roll bar as a back up.

One thing to keep in mind is that having CO2 in an enclosed space (ie interior) can have fatal consequences. A leak or discharge due to the pressure protection can asphyxiate you. It should to be mounted outside such as the bed of a pickup truck.

Great review! For me the advantage of speed doesn't outweigh the drawbacks (empty bottle anxiety, filling the tank, weight, the space it takes), but when I switch to 37" tires it will be more appealing. I love my ARB twin compressor, just wish it could compete with the C02 a little better in terms of speed.

RobDTom good point about the weight. These tanks are quite heavy. OP didn't mention that or give us a weight. He also did not mention cost of the system. I think that system he is using is about $600 with accessories. They are also quite bulky. $5-7 each time to air up seems like a lot to save a few minutes. For now I am happy with an ARB compressor.

I'm considering CO2 because I'm on a very tight budget and can't afford the breakdowns of a compressor. It seems all the reviews say it's not a matter of if your compressor with die but when. I don't airdown a lot because I don't get out on the trails a lot. When I do, I'm not rock climbing; no lockers in my TRD Sport. Airing down will most likely be to save damages to my tires. This is looking to be a good solution for me. Thanks for the video.

Thank you! We all need to have some type of air system on the trail and you could buy an inexpensive air compressor that will take 5 minutes per tire and only last you 4 months (ask me how I know!) or you can pay a little more for a nice quality system. A bit of a luxury, but I think it’s worth it.

We try our hardest! Most of the machining and powder coating is done within five miles of our shop and all of our bottles are manufactured and tested in the USA! Not only are you supporting US manufacturing but also small, local businesses.

Yeah my ARB twin compressor is nice but takes forever to air up my 37” tires and will be worthless once I go 40”s. I also don’t see it lasting much longer after a year of hard (ab)use. Not looking forward to failing on the trail and losing lockers! Space and weight wise not a big diff once you factor in the need for a separate reservoir to run air tools. Filling up a friends and mines tires so we can get off the trail and to dinner in like 1/4 of the time just filling my tires with twin compressor is a MASSIVE improvement. Oh and we don’t have to yell over the sound lol. Time is money people 🤓

Instead of getting that co2 you should have got a quality ARB twin compressor! and then matched it to like a 15 litre tank.

why CO2 instead of nitrogen? Just wondering. BTW, enjoy the build videos, especially the father son(s) aspect.
@TrailRecon

They offer a nitrogen setup for shocks but I honestly am not familiar with the availability and how many uses you would get with a setup for tires. CO2 in liquid form and turning to a gas is what allows you to get so many fill ups. I’ll have to research nitrogen. Thanks!

I was just wondering because in this area, tire shops offer (at a $3 per tire upcharge) to fill with nitrogen instead of air. It's supposed to be much denser than "air", so your tires hold their pressure longer. Supposedly...
@PowerTankOfficial
@PowerTankOfficial 6 жыл бұрын
The CO2 is stored as a liquid in the tank. This means it is more dense and has much more "usable energy" than N2 or other HPA (High Pressure Air) sources. With two bottles of the same physical dimensions, the CO2 has about 40 times the amount of energy than HPA. A 10lb Power Tank like the one Brad has, is roughly equivalent to 400 gallons of compressed air. As to whether or not N2 is better for your tires? Technically, yes but you won't notice a difference in real world conditions. I recommend you take a look at our N2 truths and myths page: www.powertank.com/nitrogen-truths-myths

Great video as always. Do you have to fill these with CO2 or can you use regular air? What is the average cost to fill the tank up?
@Comm0ut
@Comm0ut Жыл бұрын
You could use air but that won't hold nearly as much volume as CO2 which stores as a liquid under pressure. If you want high pressure air you could use a high pressure industrial cylinder or SCBA cylinder (mark it NEVER TO BE USED FOR BREATHING AIR since your compressor/filter won't be adequate unless you own a scuba compressor) and something like a Vevor HPA pump which are only a couple hundred bucks. WARNING Use only high pressure fittings and hoses (Western dominate the US industrial gas fitting market) and do your homework.

Why CO2 and not compressed air, nitrogen or other inert gas. I'm guessing density maybe? These tanks are an expensive investment and the additional cost of filling and maintenance might be cost prohibitive. Just trying to weigh my options on an ARB type compressor system or a compressed air system like this for tires, lockers, inflatables, tools, etc. It would be awesome if you could fill a DOT approved tank with an onboard air compressor for those times when I'm in a really remote location for extended periods in the backcountry.
@PowerTankOfficial
@PowerTankOfficial 6 жыл бұрын
We fill our tanks with liquid CO2 which is much more dense than any other HPA (high pressure air) source. A 10lb Power Tank like the one in the video has roughly the same usable energy as (40) 10 gallon compressed air tanks (or 400 gallons of compressed air). When considering costs, know that Power Tanks come with a lifetime warranty. A compressor, no matter how well it's built, will fail at some point and need to be replaced. Tire for tire, the cost of CO2 is about the same as the amount of gas you need to run your compressor off of. The ARB twin compressor is a FANTASTIC piece of equipment and is the closest rival to a Power Tank in terms of performance. But it's actually more expensive and will never match the flow rates (CFM) of CO2. (3CFM for the ARB twin vs. 43CFM for a Power Tank) Brad's set up is great because he uses a compressor as a back up. This alleviates his CO2 anxiety and, because the compressor is no longer the primary air source, it will last a lot longer.

Hmmm 500 dollars for a powertank system. Or 40 dollars for a used CO2 bottle locally thats got a good hydrotest date. 20 dollars per fill at the local welding shop. 70 dollars for a high flow regulator online. There ya go saved yall hundreds of dollars. I accept payment in bottles of Jack Daniels 🤣🤣

Dont forget TW (tare weight) not all CO2 fillers will fill a tank if they do not have a TW because they do not know the exact wight of the bottle be for filling from a machine.
