I'm really loving your videos, you film well, I can hear you will, your instructions are clear, and your projects are great. I also love that you get right into the project and don't have several minutes talking about your channel before you start the video. Anyway, huge fan and I hope you get a big following.

I'll be following your compost tumbler instruction to build my own. However, I felt compelled to tell you how much I appreciated the 3:15-3:30 'old west' themed scene. That was gold. Thank you.

I very recently started gardening and buying bags of compost. I also haul out bags of grass clippings, paper. Food scraps get thrown in the sink disposal. To think I could make my own compost with these items AND save money has blown my mind. I just bought a barrel and plan to build this stand. Thank you. I can't wait to start using it.

If the caster wheels are a bit further apart, they can ride just outside of the flat section. That would keep the barrel centered and prevent it from getting knocked off from the ends. Great video and thanks for sharing!

Hey Robert I finished the tumbler and got all the compost we had started into it and have one small problem. It is heavy and kinda hard to spin, so I was wondering if you had any ideas on how to make a large handle to help her spin it. Any thoughts you might have would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you, a very helpful video, without all the extra blah blah that doesn´t add to the information. It was a real joy to watch, and was interesting to the last minute, not just because of the topic but also your calm voice, clear explanation and good camera work. Now for me to invest some time in calculating those weird numbers into proper metrical sizes. Did I miss where the dimension of the wood used was mentioned?

thanks for the great videos. I have a question, what is the drill bit you use to drill the holes for the screws and allows the screws to sink into the wood instead of sticking out of it? I am new to wood working and gardening, and I am having a lot of fun with it thanks to your videos.

Love the video! Super detailed and easy to follow. I currently don’t have the finances to purchase the tools and materials to build my own. It is currently sitting on an old pallet with wheels i took out of a dolly. I am having trouble turning the barrel. Any recommendations on how I can solve this issue?

I would probably have to see it in person if you have a different setup than the one shown in the video. I really want to look into making a DIY automatic rotating compost barrel, but just haven't found the time and resources to do it.

Hey Mike, I went on Facebook Marketplace and found a lot of great deals for different types of barrels including the pickle barrel that I used in this video. This one cost $30, but I have seen them as low as $20. I did have to pick it up locally.

I liked your basic design idea, but modified a couple of things to suit my preferences. I didn't have any leftover wood, so I had to buy it all from scratch. So I used 2x3's as they are 1/2 the price of treated 2x4's. I also couldn't understand why brace the rearmost top deck plate when the wheels and all of the weight of the compost barrel go on the unbraced one. So I eliminated one of the rear top decks. I will brace that one to not only distribute the weight of the barrel, but help stabilize to whole thing. The exception to the 2x3 substitution is I left those top deck supports as 2x4 to accommodate the casters. The height of the opening of the barrel was more than I needed for my short Gorilla wheelbarrow so I shortened the legs about 6 inches. Again, I liked the basic design, just changed some details of implementation to make it more functional for me. I am moving on to the barrel modifications. That should be finished in a couple of days. If this prototype works well with these mods I will build another just like it. If not, I will change what doesn't work for me. . Thanks!!!!

I was wondering the same thing about the second in-braced rear top deck plate when the casters are mounted to it.

I have a question about this type of setup. You add stuff to the barrel to let it decompose, but how do you seperate the new stuff that you add from the stuff that's in-process from fully ready to use? There's one compartment. It seems to me you'd have to add everything all at once, let it decompose, empty it and start over. Am I wrong?
@GreenTechTown
@GreenTechTown 2 жыл бұрын
You are right, it is only one compartment. Some people have multiple barriers just for that purpose. I usually leave some compost in mine to help start the process for the new batch that is placed inside.
