you can download 3d modeling software for free. many local libraries and maker spaces have 3d printers. Link to the silicone rubber product I used: amzn.to/2iF3N8Q the mold is reusable and easy to clean. We made about 1-2 batches a pavers a week over the last few years. It only takes about 15 minutes to make a batch. I used combinations of Quikrete Countertop Mix in both White and Grey along with Quikrete 5000 to make these pavers. If you want to have greater color differential try the Quikrete liquid cement color. Here is a video I did on coloring concrete: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmKzg5WDdp6epa8

Wow. That’s a long term project. Kind of cool seeing someone show a project that didn’t take a week to complete. I also like that your showing an actual practical 3D Printer project. So often all 3D projects are things you wouldn’t pay $1 for at the dollar store.

For the analog pavers, you can also make a single. Then use the single to make 4 copies. Then make a mold from the 4 copies. This would also allow you to make your first paver from something that is not moldable or as easily repeatable like wood or carved foam.

nice ... I once worked for a hard-scape installation crew. We always built a sub-grade of 4-6" made of a compacted ABC gravel. With 1" of polymeric blended sand. The pavers always stayed in place.
@AWanderingEye6 жыл бұрын
Richard Gladle One summer our city installed pavers in the medians and sidewalks. Everything looked pretty. One winter passed. The following spring they had to be reinstalled as they were put in incorrectly and already were making a lumpy unsafe surface. Definitely pays to do the job correctly the first time!

I like the size of the first batches better. The variation of grey tones looks great.
@clookoo27 жыл бұрын
I work in landscaping, my career is creating brick paver pathways and patios. You should never put pavers on straight up ground. You should always dig down 4 inches, and use gravel. Then pack the shit out of it, level it with a level and then use finishing sand and level that as well. The way you did it makes a lumpy, uneven surface and in a few years it will have gaps and will be unpleasant to walk on.
@DeterminedDIYer7 жыл бұрын
I think he wants the gaps and stuff though from what he said.
@LeahLaushway7 жыл бұрын
Beth Ann he's not talking about gaps *between* the pavers, he's talking about gaps coming from *under* the pavers. The ground is too unstable without first digging down, then adding aggregate (rocks, usually), then tamping down, then adding sand, then tamping down again.
@JusticeforLiberty6 жыл бұрын

When doing the handmade version, you could always use your initial mold as a “waste mold” to pour urethane resin into. Doing that you can make multiple mold masters to the mold together.

It looks great and very smooth....so smooth in fact that I feel it will be slippery when wet....thoughts?
@christophersmith80147 жыл бұрын
The edges of the 3D printed ones are textured from the step-up profile that the printer makes from laying down rows of plastic. It isn't completely smooth there but I don't know if the texture is enough to not be slippery. You can see what I'm talking about at 1:41 on the video. But, generally concrete is too alkaline to grow bacteria, so slime colonies would have a hard time developing without a layer of tree sap sticking to the surface first. It really shouldn't be too slick even when wet, but you could always sprinkle some sand into the bottom of the mold before casting to have a non-slip coating in the finished part.

a compass with a pencil could easily lay out the basic design on some MDF. cut it out with a jigsaw. smooth out the cuts and round over the edges with a sander. spray it with some krylon plastic type paint to help with mold release. repeat as required to have enough to form your mold. follow through with the rest of process ya ya I know it uses a pencil so this method isn't a DIY project either really :) :) :) pretty cool concept - thanks for the video!

Either could be done. A new mold would just be required to make an edge piece
