What width elastic did you use and about how much do I need or how do I find out how much I need? My fabric store sells it by the yard.

I'm so grateful that you made one with the batting. All others I saw assumed you were using the old batting and just laying the cover over it. The board I got had NO cushion whatsoever. I also wanted to be sure the batting couldn't move separately from the cover. You are a gem.

Like your bucket hat video, another excellent tutorial and project! Thank you. Very timely as ours was falling apart. I just finished and the elastic was kinda tricky but it turned out great. Bill

I really need to do this. Mine is so grody! If you don’t have elastic, you can also do a hem/channel for string. My current nasty cover has a drawstring instead of elastic.

I could not find my curved rulers anywhere! Normally they’re in the way, but of course, when I need them, they go back into hiding 🤣 so thank you so so so much for the tip that you can use a straight ruler for curves! It took a hell of a long time (my ruler was probably a tad on the big side), but it worked! And then I realized it was a 1/2 inch too short 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ so I just did straight lines and I’ll cut the curves out as I reach them. And I’m definitely planning to make a pattern out of this once I get the pieces cut out because holy crap that was a lot of work and took forever 😂 (I’ve also had 4 low back surgeries, so if you’re perfectly healthy I’m sure it will take no time at all!)

@SewAnastasia

Maybe 2 yards of each. Really depends on the width of fabric & type of elastic you use.

I actually found at a sewing convention an ironing board cover that the fabric was developed from NASA. You can leave a hot iron on it and I won't catch on fire!! I've had mine for years! They come in several sizes too. It's called the Miracle Ironing board cover.

I seriously need to make an ironing board cover. Mine is gross and it’s been in the back of my mind for years! I’d love for a video on an ADULT hooded blanket. I can’t find a tutorial or sewing pattern anywhere! Just a large blanket (rounded and unrounded would be awesome) with a hood! Not a sweater blanket. Those are awful! I’d also love a video on how to add ears to hoods! I once had a zip up hoodie that had bear ears and one side had a bow (like Hello Kitty) and it was my favorite thing! The print was amazing and it was so cute, but everything from that brand fell apart in no time. No wonder they’re no longer in business!

Sewado have one and it's a free pattern! Except for the ears, sorry I think that would have to be another search, maybe if I remember I can look it up and find it for you...

@@LovedSaritaawesome thank you! I know Patterns for Pirates has a free one with ears. And Ellie and Mac have one without ears. I was obsessively looking everywhere for a pattern for a hooded blanket and it was right there under my nose the whole time! But I want to make one similar to FireFlyBazaar’s orbThe Bookish Box. A cute hooded reading blanket! So those two aren’t quite what I’m looking for.

Could you make it double sided and then just flip it to the clean side? After addressing the rust of course
@SewAnastasia
@SewAnastasia 10 ай бұрын
I am sure you could do that. If you try it out let me know how it goes.
@bccabernet
@bccabernet 4 ай бұрын
I'm sure that would be easy to do. Place the batting to the wrong side of one of the fabrics. Baste the batting along the edges to secure the batting. Take another fabric and place right sides together. Sew the raw edges together leaving a birthing hole open. Turn the right sides out and sew the hole closed. Then make a row of stitching along the edges (similar to a waistband channel) that's large enough to feed either string or elastic through it. That way you can make it tighter as the elastic loosens or replace it if it breaks. And you don't have to replace the whole cover to replace the elastic. It's easy to flip to the other side. You can also buy elastic that has buttonholes in it to tighten it when needed. You'll have to make your template larger to accommodate the seam allowance of sewing right sides together and your channel for the string or elastic.

Should the batting be 100% cotton also?
@randomcat4052
@randomcat4052 Жыл бұрын
I would assume so. Or ask a fabric associate to make sure the batting you pick can take high heat. My ironing board cover has no batting but has a piece of foam lining that just sits between the board and the cover and I know that foam isn't natural fibers.
@SewAnastasia

I think you can use any. Poly or cotton.

Start with a small project that can be easily accomplished. Like make a trash can out of fabric. Then later, you can try making zippered pouches once your confidence is built up.. to eventually a larger project like a grocery tote bag to eventually to whatever you like sewing (clothes, upholstery, bags etc). You can find many free patterns (pdf) online to print out.
