What do we want? Pockets! When do we want them? Now! 😁 Thanks for helping us out, Anastasia. 🙏

I never realized that this is the usual for women’s pants. I have always purchased men’s pants because of my height. Pink inequity in clothing. In any case, I just discovered women’s Duluth trading company jeans have very long pockets. Hallelujah !

It's great that you found a solution that works for you! It's frustrating when clothing options don't cater to everyone's needs, but it's always a win when you discover a brand that does.

Ask and ye shall receive, lol! I don't think I've seen anyone address this and we've ALL had it happen before. Tiny pockets in anyone's pants are just dumb. Why bother?
@SewAnastasia9 ай бұрын
Totally like just sew them shut & leave them decorative. Hopefully you try it out. Let me know how it goes.

I refuse to buy pants without front pockets anymore. Back pockets are becoming essential as well.

That is should be easy to do, thank you.

I would gone closer to the side seam. Your phone got caught on the little ledge that was created. When I extended my pocket, I made it so the extension went over to the side seam. I stitched it to the seam itself for a seamless interior experience.

You can totally do anything you want to alter it better for your needs. Thank you for watching.

Perfectly timed! I just purchased my first pair of wide leg jeans with the same sized front pockets. I was just about to do this. So nice to have the guess work all done! 🙌

I'm curious to see the old school tailoring approach and to know when would it be worth doing all that work. While this hack looks fun and totally works, that offset pocket kinda bugs my OCD 🤣
@SewAnastasia8 ай бұрын
lol. Well basically you need to take the pants apart and then add the new pocket bag to the existing one or just replace the entire pocket bag. It basically involves seam ripping that whole side seam and pocket area and reconstructing it.

Decorative welt pockets on the back of pants drive me crazy, too. I've often thought of searching for a tutorial to add pockets. Not as simple I'm sure.
@SewAnastasia8 ай бұрын
Ah, those sneaky decorative pockets! They're like the unicorns of the pants world. Searching for a tutorial might just be the magical solution you need!
@jacquelinea82248 ай бұрын
@@SewAnastasia I must be using poor keywords. I found tons of videos on sewing welt pockets from scratch (including yours) but none to convert a decorative one to a functional one. I guess the answer to that is no more Old Navy shorts. Now I can extend all of their skimpy front pockets though.🙌

"...so even if you don't sew a bunch, you're going to be able to do this." How many who "don't sew a bunch" actually have a serger? Raise your hand. Still, this video is a help. Thanks!

What kind of fabric, or thickness of fabric, do you (or anybody else) recommend for the pockets? Cause I don’t want to use thick fabric or fabric that will irritate the skin.

Do we have to have that gap in the seam? Is there a reason you kept it away from the seam, did I miss that?😊
@SewAnastasia4 ай бұрын
Yeah you missed the part where I didn’t want to seam rip open the leg of my pants. You totally can. I was just giving you a “hack” an easier way to do it.

How do you add a pocket to a make belive front pocket in jeans..

Cut it open and add a pocket.

I can’t figure out why the bottom was cut open ? Wouldn’t the folded material be stronger as the bottom of the pocket than a seam?
@SewAnastasia2 ай бұрын
To make it longer
@juliedegraw4797Ай бұрын
Cutting the bottom (the fold) of the new pocket makes it so you can sew the extension on easier. Leaving it folded means you’ll have to hand sew the extension to the existing pocket.
