This style Sled Feeder or the Bear-Proof Hanging Feeders with a Hand Winch Pulley System are much better than those 3-legged feeders to be sure!!! Hope this style is HOG-PROOF!

Love your channel! Thanks for sharing. Thinking about something simular, but have to customize for the hills around here.

Thank you! One guy in Colorado said he’s going to add wheels to the outside because he has hilly terrain as well. Definitely want it wider if you have hills. You could also shorten the tower as well. Good luck and shoot me some pics when you are done so I can post them.

Thank you very much for all the details in your videos. Done very well and great craftsmanship! Apparently you don't have bears on your area. I'm going to build one just for the heck of it. Thanks again!

How are you welding on galvanized pipe and not getting sick from it iv always heard that it will make you sick if you weld on galvanized pipe or anything galvanized
@TheHandyHunter
@TheHandyHunter 3 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard that too. It’s supposedly the zinc coating that’s poisonous. I wear a Miller respirator that filters it out and does a good job. Sometimes I forget to put it on...lol. I also use a high volume fan that sucks air out of my shop too. When I get thick in fumes I hold my breath. 👍Hope that helps.

You can also grind Galv. Off wearing dust mask then after welding spray it with galv. Paint

Question for you.....I need to attach tripod legs to a 55 gallon barrel that I'm making into a feeder. What type of connector do you recommend for attaching legs/poles to the barrel? A ban type deal that bolts around the barrel? Or something else?
@TheHandyHunter
@TheHandyHunter 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen people use the band that wraps around and I think someone makes pole inserts that you bolt onto the side. I personally weld EMT couples to the bottom rim that match the pipe size I’m using. Works pretty good. Hope that helps…Good luck!

Had you modified the rear runners on the tailgate to wide "U" shape, would you be able to backup with this unit, or is that an impossible task with this design? ** Maybe Backing Up isn't a necessity for most!?
@TheHandyHunter
@TheHandyHunter 4 жыл бұрын
Really no need because it’s so easy to spin around but you could add rear facing sleds if you needed too.

Question: any hogs in your area? Ever have problems hogs knocking the feeder over? Thinking of building one of these but there are a lot of hogs in my area wondering if it will be sturdy enough ….lot of big pigs around here Thanks in advance
@TheHandyHunter

We have tons of hogs and they eat around these everyday. Never had a problem at all. My only problem are big coons swinging on the cage and. Breaking the door clips…lol. Good luck!

Is there a way to put wheels on this design to pull it on the road? (Short distance each time 5-20miles)
@TheHandyHunter
@TheHandyHunter 4 жыл бұрын
Sure! Just weld on a bracket for a wheel and you’ll be all set. You may want to make the base a little wider. Good luck!

What did you cap the ends of the pipe with?
@TheHandyHunter
@TheHandyHunter 3 жыл бұрын
They are metal pipe caps that insert into the ends of the pipe. You get them in the electrical dept at Home Depot near the EMT piping. Hope that helps!

Can hog knock them over or r they heavy in The front so they cant
@TheHandyHunter
@TheHandyHunter 4 жыл бұрын
There’s no way they can knock them over. They might push the front bar but the feeder will just turn. So far they haven’t messed with it and they eat around it almost every day. If you are worried you could easily put a dog chain anchor in the ground and use a rachet strap to secure. Hope that helps!

How do they hold up to hogs trying to tip them over?
@TheHandyHunter
@TheHandyHunter 4 жыл бұрын
I just started using them so I don’t know whether they will try to push over or not. If they do, then I will simply put a dog chain anchor in the ground right under the T-bar of the frame and tighten it down. I didn’t want to tie it down at first to see if they’d bother it. My cell cams have already shown many hogs around them and they haven’t bothered it so far.

*to make the plunge cut on each end of the legs using the drill press
@TheHandyHunter
@TheHandyHunter 4 жыл бұрын
Oh, gotcha. I just put the pilot bit as close to the edge as possible so it wouldn’t slip off. It should make a perfect drill hole right at the edge with about a 16th to spare from the edge.

Great Plan/idea and guys comment with U could be +++...but my ? why so HIGH? would be less likely to be tippy..and no steps needed....thx for ps could use a couple three Tpost to stake in place.with some rings welded to frame in strategic spots...
@TheHandyHunter
@TheHandyHunter 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You can make them as low as you want. I try to keep mine high enough that the hogs can’t stand on the frame and bump the box for more corn.
