I knew that the pipe was 3/4 in. I just didn't know if the tips were something odd. I saw somebody using an inch and 1/8 on a 1-in PVC. I don't think I need mine to be that thick. Was going to use 3/4 in like you did, but wanted to make sure of what size tips to get. Appreciate the video!

For sure....I just took a measurement of the od of the pipe I wanted to use and then went to the store and found a cap that was just a hair smaller!

The lakes I go to the dock is about 40 ft from the boat ramp so they wouldn't help you there the only thing you can do is what I always do is always so an anchor out tied on and back the truck the truck the boat into the water and then get out of the truck and pull the boat over there to the side with the anchor and leave it there until I get the truck parked and then I go down there especially whenever I'm solo thank you and have a blessed day brother that was some good tips and have a very blessed day 🙏

Great DIY product. My input is the 2 hooks that connects to the dock will not stay on the cleat. It would be better to cut the end hooks off, tie the ends together, put the knot in the middle of the PVC pipe to make both ends uniform. Then when dockside, either end of the bungee can attach to the dock cleat.

I actually have another set that I made this exact way....the hooks do come in handy when all the cleats are taken sometimes to...quick rap around a pole and hook back to itself!

Very nice, and thanks for sharing with us. I would like to ad something that might be a better tweak. When installing the caps on the PVC, maybe add a drop or two of super glue to make sure of they don't slip off. I believe I will make a couple myself. Happy new year!

Awesome job on the video. I'm on the fence between these and fenders. I'm thinking of fenders for 100% chance they'll work and 80% sticks will under EVERY scenario. I like the price of the DIY dock sticks and being able to put sticks nd wrap on them making it custom is waaaay better than old school fenders. So gotta watch more vids.

Wouldn't that keep the bungees from being able to stretch within the tube. Also, the tube needs to slide to tighten at the boat cleat. Great thought, but might impede function.
@NoelleMerilh1786
@NoelleMerilh1786 8 ай бұрын
I agree Richard. I would leave them attached my boat cleats and use some good velcro to stow them to the gunwale or the deck, etc....peel and stick! No dropping in the water because they never come detached. This also keeps the loop from pulling back inside of the tube leaving you hosed at go time because it's through and around the cleat all of the time.

If the boat moves forward or back, doesn't the hull then come in contact with the pier? Don't you need a fore and aft spring line to keep it in line with your dock stick?
@BBbroussard
@BBbroussard 2 жыл бұрын
You are correct...I haven't ran into any issues with this since I started using them but when the weather is nasty I try to dock on the leeward side to mitigate any potential issues!
@richardbushey4134

Another vid like this suggested attaching them to the dock angled inward or outward (not parallel to each other, not perpendicular to the boat, and should make a trapezoidal shape between them, the boat, and the dock). This is to help the boat not move forward or back. Haven't used them yet...but I plan to make some tomorrow. Had the perfect situation where these would have helped today. Dock deck and bumper was 4" - 6" higher than my boat. The dock metal bracing, legs, etc were inset by 4" or more. I couldn't tie up conventionally without scratching the heck out of my boat and tearing my fish finder off the boat (it's at the right of my console). My trolling motor head also hangs out in this danger zone at the edge of the boat. No option but to have helper hold boat from dock at arms length. With these, I should be able to do dock more safely myself with no problem. Thanks for the video!

Exactly right. Built some myself, have used them once and had this issue on a fairly calm day. I want to trash and burn them......they're useles for protecting a new boat.

I see where the pipes keeps the boat at a distance from the dock. Whats keeping them from moving left or right and hitting the dock?
@St0rmrider73
@St0rmrider73 6 ай бұрын
So the actual dock stick company (the expensive ones) has a video out that recommends that when you use the sticks try and have the dock side lower or higher than the boat and not dead level. It also recommends that you angle them in a V either with the ends on the boat closer together than the dock ends or the dock ends closer than the boat ends. That should keep it stable because yeah if they are straight at the dock and dead level there’s a chance the bit moves forward or backwards and hits the dock.

Having ur cleats where they are on ur boat do the docking sticks actually serve their purpose?

How does this keep your boat away from the dock? If the boat move forwards or backwards, the arms will just pivot, putting the boat back against the dock. I guess if there is no wind or waves I could see this working.
@david_kg
@david_kg Жыл бұрын
The key is to “v” them. So just make sure you don’t put them parallel with each other. You either point the ends easy or toward each other in a v.

Still don't get as the boat drifts forward or backwads how these don't just fold up parallel to the dock letting the boat bang up against the dock.
@GunManOsh
@GunManOsh Жыл бұрын
The original company recommends hooking them up in a “V” formation so they don’t have the ability to fold one way or the other.

Oh I gotcha....well I only use these while launching and the boat launches are pretty safe where I am. I launch the boat, set the dock sticks in place to keep the boat secure while I park my truck, then I remove them when I am ready to leave the dock.
