As a dietary aid in a retirement home I take home the 4 liter glass pickle jars and the really big miracle whip containers. I reuse them in my pantry for bulk items , such as beans, rice pasta etc.

Be cautious with cardboard. Years ago we had a silverfish problem. Terminix came out and treated our house, but also shared that silverfish are attracted to/eat cardboard. We've only used plastic bins since then and no more problems.

I’m so sorry to hear about your issue with pests!! Yes I’ve heard of this before. Freezing the boxes would likely take care of this. But I have been doing this for years and not had any problems. At least they do have some plastic items that can be used as well 😃

I love your ideas of getting boxes that will be thrown away by the store and making great and unique use out of them. I will certainly keep an eye out next time I’m at a store for some free storage solutions. I keep any glass food jar and reuse for storing food and spices. In addition, I keep containers from yogurt, baked goods or other food containers and reuse them. My eyes light up when I get a container that is sturdy enough to reuse. My daughter teases that I should go to containers anonymous because of my addiction. Thank you for sharing!

I look forward to all of your new videos. I work at a grocery chain and usually just reuse things that are plastic- buckets from icing are everywhere in my house for bird food and salt outside to floor washing and garbage inside. I have pets so i don't use cardboard for many things that they may come in contact with, but you would be surprised what plastic can hold up to with little claws and teeth. Finding out about reduction policies can be an asset with grocery chains to get the best deals for seasonal items, and people need to think outside the box when it comes to saving money. I once found a displayer of xmas wired ribbon at my store after new year and inquired about the price. They didn't want to reduce it and put it out for sale after the holidays were over so i got over 20 packs of ribbon for $5. I have been wrapping presents for years and i won't run out any time soon. It's an "extra" thing, but it cost me almost nothing per present and it makes quite a difference in the gift giving. Keep an eye at your grocers and chain stores as well the days up to and after occasions for good deals and put it away until next year. It will save you money in the long run.

I have a 2-year-old and a 1-year-old that wear the same size in diapers. With that many diaper changes, our best price is to get a case every few weeks from Aldi. I like to use the boxes to store out-of-season clothing and extra linens in. These boxes fit nicely in the boys' closet in their room. I might try to invert them, but since they are just going in the closet and no one will really see them, I'm okay with just labeling the box with the contents. I really enjoy watching your videos, please keep them coming!

Costco allows me to take liquor boxes with dividers...firstly I use them to put figurines and breakables in to take the a dog cat resale shop. Another use will be taking the dividers and planting seedlings inside for spring... . They also have large cardboard pieces that they store at ends of aisles until they pick them up...useful for the car for dogs to sit on, or to put down to deter weeds in my organic yard. Of course the boxes that have tops to them already cut out are a favorite for my collection of TNR rescue cats. Cats cannot resist boxes. Magazine dividers and boxes that are similar are portrayed in Pinterest for many uses for organization of pantry, etc. This is the 2nd video I have watched of yours and I will be looking for more. Rubber scrapers help get food out of those pasta jars I read to leave packaging that is not usable at the store instead of bringing home....

The best kind of Dollar Tree Haul is a free one! 😄 I would have never thought to ask for the empties but that is a great idea! I especially like the one you put your gift cards in and the one you put your magazines in! I am with you on loving to look at what the Dollar Tree has when it comes to a lot of the home decor and things like that, but not necessarily bring the stuff home myself. I don't really even decorate a lot except for Christmas. I love what it looks like in other people's houses but I don't want to have to deal with it when it comes to storing it and having extra things out to clean and take care of!

Free for the win, Alicia! I'm glad you like the gift card one and I was really happy to see it available! It's so much better this way for my son's items for school. He has so many little bits and bobs and he only needs them some days and not others. It was hard for him to manage. Hopefully this makes it easier! I really enjoy how it looks in other people's homes as well but I know for me I don't like to clean them. And glittery items are the worst to me! I have a strange fear of glitter 😂. Thanks for watching Alicia! I hope you are all having a great Labor Day weekend and have a great week ahead!

You are SO amazing, Wendy. Leave it to YOU to actually help keep Dollar Tree cleaner than when you arrived😱 In my last trip to DT , the store was completely cleaned out... which ended up being a great thing for me. I was able to find some true gems. I have discovered propagating my plants after having to spend $5 on a small indoor plant at Walmart. I use the river rocks from DT to fill the bottom of the planter when they are ready to leave the water. Two pounds of rocks for $1! I felt good about everything that I brought home from that shopping trip😀

Yes, yes! I worked in a teenage blue jean store one summer and since then I have always left the department or changing room better than I found it. Also I organized my pantry by putting random cardboard boxes in so I could see just what size and shape would be best before I bought anything. The boxes must have been clean when I put them in because I haven't so far gotten bugs. One for cans, one for mixes, one for bread etc. They worked so well I never bought plastic. The best part of using found items is that when you find something better you can just throw them away.

Oh, Wendy! This is beautiful, useful and totally hilarious at times! What a marvelous video! My family and I have actually purchased some of those expensive lucite boxes, waste baskets and storage containers that can be very elegant in a bathroom. I love your clear plastic organizers especially! Functional, free - what could be better? I avoid the dollar tree save for a rare outing, but I do really love Costco boxes for storing my folded rags by the washer dryer, corralling small toys, as a plaything for the kids, or MOST OF ALL for transporting a meal train meal or hot dish for a pot luck. Those sturdy boxes are great for corralling dishes of food so they sit safely in my trunk or floorboard. Love that I was free to watch this video hot off the press! It was wonderful!

I love Dollar Tree! The one here in our small town is fairly new and in wonderful shape. Always organized. The older one in the city is extremely messy, but I can usually find what I'm looking for. Repurposing items is now a passion of mine. However I did buy little bins at the Dollar Tree to store things in, especially in the fridge. They can be washed in the dishwasher or by hand depending on size. Good job! Certainly a good free haul...along with the clever repurposing. TFS 💜

Loved this re-use video.. I enjoy your content. This video reminded me of my re-use experience. My daughter is a big fan of LOL dolls but she's never owned one in her life. I think she learned about them from watching you tube videos... We were shopping at Target one day and she wanted an empty LOL storage box. I offered to buy her a surprise ball instead but she really wanted the box, so I put it in the cart. When I went to checkout the cashier was so confused. She almost didn't let me take it home. I had to explain what it was and suggest she try and ring it up. She was puzzled, but let us take it home. My daughter played with the box daily for at least 6 months and to this day hasn't wanted a surprise ball. I did eventually get rid of it when she got a doll house as a gift for her 3rd birthday.

Just wanted to say that I hope someone at $Tree sees your video and gives you kudos for helping them with their trash removal! Seriously, I’m sure they spend tons of money on hauling this stuff, clogging the landfills because they probably don’t sort their trash. Here in Japan, some folks unwrap their items of unnecessary packaging (over packaging is a big problem here) as they are packing up their groceries, etc. into their own cloth shopping bags. Most stores provide recycling bins right at the entrances so you can easily off load any packaging you don’t need. Even our convenience stores offer trash sorting bins at the entrance. Thanks for pointing out all great reusable display pieces that can be repurposed. Our local stores keep a bin of cardboard boxes for consumers to take but I have never seen the plastic display boxes discarded. Makes me wonder if they reuse them at the stores or possible have their own plastics recycling bins out back.🌞

That is so great that stores in Japan have those recycle bins available for customers! I've seen folks do the cloth bags here, and they purposefully leave any stickers or wrappings with the groceries to leave the store the message that they want less waste. I find that ironic though, but I don't have a good solution to it either! I like the idea of the sorting bins at the entrance and I wish they'd offer that here too. If they are to reuse packaging I think that would be great! One lady at DT told me they just recycle all the empties and I'm free to take them. Most just tell me "Oh, sure". Maybe because most people don't ask to do this. Thank you for sharing with me! It's neat to get to chat with someone out of the country. Your English is excellent!

Yeah I hear what you are saying about boxes getting dusty. I give them a wipe from time to time with just a hint of a warm damp cloth so it doesn't break down the cardboard. And if I'm concerned about bugs or want to disinfect I give the box a very light once over spray with eucyalptus spray
