New subscriber! Love the pieces you choose, really nice transformations. Your editing is great, love the little tips you throw in along the way. Question on the sample paint tester, is it acrylic or latex? How long do you let it dry before waxing?

Great to see a local flipper using products I'm familiar with. There's a lot of good channels on KZbin but it's frustrating when they use a product that I'd like to try but, while the price is reasonable enough on Amazon etc, the freight from the US costs $80-100 😵‍💫 Without sounding like a know-it-all, have you tried steaming out scratches that might be bothersome? Damp rag and a hot iron will make the wood swell and most scratches reduce in depth that I don't freak out when it comes time to sand. Just be careful to not steam veneer off the surface it's glued too! I've done that once or twice but find using a hypodermic needle and a syringe with PVA and injecting the glue then clamping or weighing fixs that. Drying the damp patch with a hairdryer/heatgun/fan heater speeds things up. Porter paints are really nice. If you can get hold of their milk paint in powder form, it's worth experimenting with it for the 'antique' look. There's not many colours but it's tintable with normal tints or even acrylic paint. Subbed BTW, nice job 👌

Yes, totally feel the frustrations with Amazon shipping prices, it's such a shame! I have seen the iron trick on youtube and yes, need to give it a go. I might need to get a cheap iron though, my wife would kill me otherwise haha! Thanks for the tips, appreciate it! I'll lookout for the Porters product you mentioned, thank you! Cheers for taking the time to comment and becoming a sub!

Hi Jim, I used a roller to ensure no brush marks, but I can tell you there were no roller lines so that’s a plus in my books. The paint is very high quality and you can tell in the finish, it drys very well and feels hard wearing. I’ll use it on future projects. Thank you for watching, I appreciate it 😎

I love the end results. Ideally, though, I enjoy a slower pace when watching these furniture flipping videos, as I prefer to watch them when relaxing or winding down. The fast background music and the video editing required too much energy to watch 😅 But you got my subscription!

Thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate it! I am torn, I am getting some that love the pace and others like yourself that are less so. I am just starting out so please stick with me as I find my way. Early days and sometimes love/hate relationships are the strongest ;)

Just found your channel. I already stalk quite a few Aussie Furniture Flippers - Creep Designs by Twitch, Four Forty Five (Vintage & Painted) These ladies are fantastic. Twitch has helped me navigate the crazy world of brushes/paints/waxes/top coats. Doing a search for something is like dropping into an abyss. Really good job and nice to know I'm not the only one that blows through veneer on my first go because I wanted it to go faster. 🙂

To get rid of the "orange peel" effect left from a foam roller, after you've rollered - VERY LIGHTLY lay the paint off with a fine bristled brush - much finer than the one you used to put the paint on with in this video. To lay it off just hold the handle of the brush with 2 fingers and drag it across the paint just after rollering - litterally right after that section - if you wait until you've painted the whole thing before laying off, the water based paint will already have started to dry and you'll get horrible drag marks - it needs to be done IMMEDIATELY after you've painted that section - like a drawer front or top while it's still very wet. - the paint will lay off flatter and dry smoother. Otherwise nice job.

@@flipitnation It's called 'roll and tip' and boat builders use it a lot. I have no doubt a fine brush works well, but you can do it with foam brushes. I've used them on a pair of wood kayaks, renovated furniture, and even a small bathroom's walls (got tiring). Works well with (good) varnish, too, as I used it on the deck of a 17' wood kayak and it came out almost like it was polished when I only let it set up on its own. The trick is to not go over it dry, you just want to smooth it out to make it easy for it to self-level. If you're using a thick paint or varnish, you probably want to thin it a little first. You'll likely want to do an extra coat that way, but it's worth it. That said, I used Sherwin Williams Duration paint in my bathroom straight from the can and that is pretty thick paint, but it came out excellent, if not quite what I'd want on furniture or the kayaks.

... why would u ruin a old antiqe funiture...😢😱 it only needs oil. Never paint! It will loose all value for money.
@flipitnation
@flipitnation Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your opinion. To say I ruined it is subjective. I sold this with ease and could have sold it several times. For me, I like to see something saved from landfill and find a new home for many years to come, rather than make the most amount of money from it. Some like paint, some don't. In my opinion and reselling experience in my city, people are looking for pieces with a bit of colour. I have also removed paint from lots of pieces, thats the great thing about paint.

@@flipitnation i understand, but in opinion, I would never paint an old antiqe funiture. The beautiful wood, is to old and have to much history to ruin it. 🤷‍♂️😊 it should just need teak-oil it should look like it's original look. It is from the 1950s or 60's.
