That chest sure had a lot of abuse with nasty, coloured toxic paints, chipboard top and clunky knobs. You gave it a great new lease on life. I like those new half-moon drawer pulls and its stained and oiled refinishing. Congratulations.

Those were brilliant stain and finish combos. Also, the large drawers needed larger pulls. That was a good thought on your part. I really like the antique color for the pulls.

Personally I wouldn't ruin the bases with black paint but to each their own and their projects 👍

You used walnut stain, but you mentioned African cherry...is that the wood? This turned out beautiful.

Nice to see a restore and not the stupid distress paint job that ruins furniture.

I don't get the lead phobia.I make leadlights (stained glass) and handle lead daily for nearly 30 years, without fear. Is lead dangerous ? Of course it is, but so is wood dust, old paint, and chemicals .If you intend to do restoration , you should be taking the same precautions for EVERYTHING, not just crap your pants over lead.Wear a decent respirator ,gloves ,dampen the piece to keep dust down, and work in a well ventilated area.

I’m not sure I understand the point of your comment. I don’t nor have I indicated people have a phobia of lead. As you said, you have been working with it for 30 years so you are a professional and well experienced with handling lead in a safe way. Many people are new to furniture upcycling, refinishing and restoring. It’s a hobby and sometimes just a one off thing for people. Many are unaware of it let alone how to deal with it, that’s all. Anyhow, better go clean myself up. Crappy pants aren’t a good look.

@@flipitnation I am pointing out that many youtubers use those stupid lead tests as a "oh shit, lead is present" reason for extra care. The "extra" care taken is not an additional step, but something that should be intrinsic for every job.

This style was pretty popular in America, too, though different manufacturers. The dark cherry tones, etc. thanks for the tip on sanding before applying stripper. In 30 years of work, ive never done that! Great outcome!❤
