It has only recently occurred to me how useful a drum sander would be, and this made me really excited. I'm looking forward to making one of these myself.

After seeing cheap spindle sanders go for 129 on sale I had to look for a diy. This is definitely the route I'm taking. It'll be practically free to go this route. Thank you.

Big Dan Yeah this was basically free for me as well. If I remember correctly everything came from the misc. and scrap bins in my garage.

I was not satisfied with the way my (commercial) drum sanders were working on my drill press so... I mounted the drum onto my router. It worked great. I have a variable speed router and put it on the slowest speed. Makes a great drum sander!

Rob I Yep you can put sand paper on just about anything that spins I guess. I've seen it done with a right angle grinder and a table saw before. Thanks for posting.

This is great. I have the same exact drill press and I grabbed one of those little barrel sanders from Sears but the dust gets everywhere. Not to mention the refills are a little pricey. I'll give this a shot. Thanks!

Why did you drill the hole on top of the box with a hand held drill, when the box fits perfectly on your drill press?

I need to do this. what kind of table saw do you have? I have a cheap ryobi. I need to make the table top you have and the fence and miter gauge too.

How did you end up attaching the sand paper? easy to replace?
@simplyeasydiy9 жыл бұрын
Jon Singh Self adhesive sandpaper. Just peel it off and replace. The hardest part is cutting the next piece to the exact size needed to go around the drum without leaving a gap or overlapping.

How did your dust collection turn out with this project
@simplyeasydiy9 жыл бұрын
John Diemer It's Perfect. Grabs just about everything. I'm not sure why it worked here on this project but not so well on the table saw workstation. Probably the size of the compartment coupled with the size of the shop vac are factors.
