On my edge repairs, i cut it out first… start the intial shaping with a grinding stone…. Finish the shaping with 60 grit sanding barrel… start the smoothing with 120grit sanding barrel… then i finish smoothing the repair down with 150/220/320 sandpaper. The wavy shape you did, i do also but i do much more sanding to make sure there are no nics at all

love it! I have collected some cracked cymbals that friends were throwing away. wanted to try and get them playable in some fashion. very informative video. appreciate it alot

Rock on! Yeah it's amazing how many people are scared or just pissed because of a crack. But if you can catch it early enough you can save the cymbal and preserve the sound for sure! Thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback/comment

In a previous life I was a drummer. My son, picking up where dad left off, is an amazing drummer talent (proud dad). He came to me with a cracked cymbal and I repaired it the way I did 30 years ago. I simply drilled a hole at the top of the crack to stop it from spreading. Any construction engineer will tell you that a round hole creates structural support like in a bridge girder. When did cutting out a chunk become the new way of doing it? It does look better cosmetically but don't see how it's better than just drilling a hole. Just looking for your thoughts/opinions on it. thanks.

The reasoning is simple... cracks can go beyond what the eye can see at a microscopic level in the metal. Typically most people drill the hole but the crack goes beyond what they saw and the fix isn't fully repaired and down the road it continues to spread. I've seen that happen way to many times.

I want to do this but don’t want to buy a dremel and don’t know if it will last 😅 Could be better off buying a new cymbal. Thanks for the video !

Depending on the crack size and location.. a file and sand paper go along way
@aaronpulido704910 ай бұрын
Do you recomend cut all the entire cymbal? All around?
@ZackZweifel10 ай бұрын
I only do where the crack is and then a bit past to help smooth it out. No need to go around the entire thing unless you can feel any little chips or rough spots.

Hey Zack. Do you allow drummers to send cymbals in to you from another state for repair?
@ZackZweifel2 жыл бұрын
Of course! I just kinda ask to cover the shipping back.

Hi, what is the cutting tool called that you use?
@ZackZweifel2 жыл бұрын
I'm using a reinforcement cutting wheel for the Dremel tool. Much better and stronger than the standard cutting wheel.
@sawstromson45292 жыл бұрын
@@ZackZweifel Thanks Zack, I'm gonna try with one of those, looks easier than the metal saw I usually use (by hand not electric)
@ZackZweifel2 жыл бұрын
@@sawstromson4529 yeah with this cutting wheel it is super easy! And you can maneuver it around very easily.
@dirtydog111167 Жыл бұрын
did it effect the sound at all?
@ZackZweifel Жыл бұрын
For this particular crack it did not effect it much. Because I caught it early and made a minor change the sound change was minor. Now with a bigger crack, I've heard changes

Do you not have a welder ?
@ZackZweifel3 жыл бұрын
I do not actually. But I did try taking a cymbal to a welder once and having it done. It ended up breaking worse later. Could have been a bad welder or just my luck. So I've always just removed the cracks now.

Dude! Close-ups!!!!! We need to see what you're actually doing. It was clamped down for gods sake. We don't need to see the spray cans 2 feet away in the shot!

I'm sorry I apologize! I have some more broken cymbals I can fix and do better close ups. 🙃

Sorry to be a jerk about it. I was just frustrated at not being able to see up close. Peace!

@nimblemedia hey honestly no harm here. I actually wish more people would give honest feedback so as I do things in the future I know what to do better! So honestly I appreciate the honesty
