I think most people dont understand that the exhaust vent on your dryer is meant to expel heat to the outside of the home, not to expel lint. The lint should be captured in the removal filter. In my opinion because we always have to clean these vents the filters on the dryers are not doing the job efficiently.
@DansWay

Agreed! These could be designed much better to not drop lint back down the shoot when you remove them...

Helpful and simple guide to removing the lint cover and cleaning out the area behind it - thanks. Also appreciated the suggestion to test re-attaching things while taking them apart. Been tinkering / fixing things for years, and do sometimes get stuck with the 'how does this go back together?' challenge - the advice to practice re-assembly along the way will save hours on future projects.

Thanks for the tips. It's also a good idea to hit the 'on' button after you unplug it (make sure it's turned to a heating or 'on' setting and not in an 'off' zone). Many appliances store energy even though unplugged - in some cases, enough to cause death.

I agree, anytime you will be where the circuit boards or wiring is exposed. This this particular case, there is nothing down there to get zapped by, but for sure turning it off is best. Sorry I didn't show that step...

one thing to note on the brush that goes on a drill is, make sure you tape the pieces together. If you hit the reverse button on your drill you risk the pieces unscrewing and being left in the dryer vent tube.

Something to add, when the dust flap on exterior vent no longer closes fully you have an entry point for smaller mammals at ground level, and mama birdies higher up. The mama birdies i can work with, not so much the furry critters 🤓
@DansWay
@DansWay 3 жыл бұрын
Great point about the critters getting in from a partially closed door. Birds definitely love the dryer lint fuzz for nest building. Not sure if it is any good for them, but they definitely grab it up.

Get rid of the flex vent pipe and go with rigid 4" aluminum or galvanized pipe with smooth interior. You'll have less lint buildup.

You should go ahead and vacuum dust the back of the dryer and top of the washer, and other dust accumulates back there. Any dust gathered can start a fire, the cleaner the better.

Dan, I see a possible hazard at your house. Your dryer fixture on the outside of the house has the old 2-1/2" body that puts back pressure on modern dryers built after about the 1980s. I AM NOT Talking About The Hose Size! Somewhere around the 1980s the industry changed to the 4" body to allow for full exhausting of modern dryer's higher CFM exhaust. I'm talking about the body of the outlet, only allowing the exterior flap to open 2-1/2". The modern outlets allow for a full 4" opening of exhaust. This why your dryer had such a terrible build-up of lint. Go to Lowe's or Home Depot and look at the various choices of modern outlets. Note 2 here, is that you haven't vacuumed inside the body of your dryer, and that's where fires start. The grille inlets on the back panel of the dryer are where it draws-in air. And all that lint that was on the wall and floor behind your dryer has also been pulled into your dryer's body. Take off the big steel colored rear panel and vacuum the heck out of the inside of the body. God bless.

I truly appreciate your concern and the time you spent to tell me about the condition of my dryer and exhaust port. That dryer video has been viewed by nearly 40K+ people and nobody had noticed what you did there about the size of the exhaust port. My home was built in 1977, so it makes sense that the rules/standards had not yet changed. I will look into this more to see how I can upgrade the exhaust port to the proper 4" size. I have also considered doing a video showing the back being removed to clean out the burner, as well as the need to replace the rollers as one of those has started to fail. Be blessed!

Hey Dan, 90 degree elbows for the wall and dryer makes for a very nice s-shaped hose against the wall and nearly eliminates any narrowing at the outgoing vent area. This ol' gal found this out on her first washer dryer stackable unit installation. I was pretty tickled with myself because it involved a little bit of trim work on the sheet metal pipe. Can you make sure to keep up the good work,

Small, SMALL point but when you disconnected the electric plugs from the wall socket you did it by grabbing the wire and not by taking hold of the plug in order to pull the plug out of the socket. A no no especially with finer wire on computer connections. No?
@DansWay
@DansWay 3 жыл бұрын
Your absolutely correct. You should always grab the larger connector instead of the cord itself... My bad... ;-)

Or simply ignorant. My neighbor purchased a new dryer because hers stopped working. When installing it, they found the exhaust tube packed with lint. Her dryer had been working fine all along, but too late at that point. They hauled away her older, but perfectly working dryer. I only found out after the fact. Sad to say I didn't get a chance to help her with that one...
