Instead of spending $170 for a dust cyclone, we did another DIY project and made our own 4 inch dust cyclone using a $20 Kit. This does not include the bucket, which needs to be purchased separately even if you buy the pre-made cyclone.

I am usually skeptical of real inexpensive kits but this really worked incredibly well. (I am now determined to try something similar for my shop vac)

Nice job guys. Many woodworkers overlook the importance of dust collection and respirators. The fine dust from sanding can be extremely harmful. My father told me that a few years back, and now he is 85. When I started out here, I built a separator for the Ridgid I had just bought. It is a simple thien baffle made from a chlorine bucket. Best thing I ever made. I was my first youtube video, and the video itself was very rough, but the finished product was a godsend.

Our jealousy of your dust management grows! Great job on this one - I love how you took a lower cost approach, and the decision to use attachments vs. running hoses all over the shop is a great one. Totally something I can see us doing, too. Cheers on another awesome video!

We always go for the Poor Man solution first only to learn that the high quality items actually are better off in the long run but in this case, I think we hit a homerun. :-) Thank you for your support as always!!

Hi Both, Fantastic cyclone. I guilt something very similar for my 1st workshop and it served me really well. When I built my new workshop I put in a full 4" system but I still have my original cyclone as a back up as well. Great video as always. Take care both. Cheers, Huw

I am hoping this serves the Poor Man workshop and not have to put in a full 4" system. LOL Thank you for watching as always. Very much appreciated.

Neat set up!! No doubt it will make a difference. Reduce the dust by a good percentage for sure! It’s hard to capture the fine dust even with a big expensive set up. Most industrial shops still have need an air filter system in the shop for the fine dust as well as an extractor for the bigger particles. So I think you’re right to say it will make a difference. Super job once again both! No more saw dust and chips flying around, plus emptying a bucket will be so much easier than emptying a dust bag no doubt✌🏻👏🏻🙌🏻

Thank you Ms Kristie. The more I learn about the dangers of sawdust, the more I try to minimize it. I now need something that works better on my table saw. :-)

Useful addition to your workshop, I made one for my shop vac it makes finding sucked up bolts and screws very easy 👍 😁

I use my car tire to pick up lost screws. The screws sink into tire rubber nicely so maybe I dont need a cyclone for my shop vac. LOL!!! 😂

I just cut a little piece of plastic that was hanging on. The main thing I am looking for is the filter will not clog and will actually collect tiny particles and all larger pieces just drop in the bucket. Then I can breathe better. 😃

I have the same exact setup and works great for collecting chips from the jointer/planer. The only difference (which is the real game changer), is the 1 micron dust bag I installed over the original one (which is 10 micron I believe). This allow to really catch very fine dust particles.
@Poor_Mans_DIY
@Poor_Mans_DIY 3 жыл бұрын
Would you believe I ordered a dust bag? LOL. I was going to get the 1 micron bag but I read so many reviews indicating the 1 micron bag clogs quickly. I should have asked you first. 😄

@@MoscaWoodworking I ordered 2 micron for my dust collector bag but I also ordered a new filter for my shop vac and I found a place that make a vacuum bag the works inside my shop vac. I hope all these changes, can help keep my garage cleaner and the air even safer. (but I will continue wearing my full face mask)

Great cyclone guys. I desperately need to upgrade mine, as it’s only about a 20 litre container and a lot of material is making it through to the vacuum.

Interesting video. Been looking at something similar. Normally you see people using barrels with the cyclone on top. Seen the kits with the 2 ports recently like this. Seems like a great option

I looked into the various cyclone types and figured it would be worth giving a try and if it does not work, we can go with the top mounted type. Thus far... I have no regrets and am thrilled with the cyclone.

Hello Richard and Jennifer, Cyclone great need in the working environment. You have created a great cyclone at low cost. I made a different cyclone last year. And I am still using it. If you want to watch, you can see it on my channel. Good job. Congratulations. See you. Stay healthy and happy. Big greetings. Best regards. Mehmet....

Nice review and install of the cyclone. You still loving the wen dust collector?
@Poor_Mans_DIY
@Poor_Mans_DIY 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, sir. I definitely love the Wen dust collector. It is quite powerful for such a low cost. There are many people who have complained about the clog. The company installed a screen just before the fan blades but the holes are so small that things dont pass through. I saw some people remove the screen and I tried that as well and it works beautifully.

Truly sorry for the delayed response. I have to admit I am a little confused by your question. I do not recall referencing an exhaust fan. If you are referring to the giant vacuum like item, it is a dust collector. Here is what I use.. amzn.to/4b6Wk7J. It can be mounted on the wall as well. Thank you for watching our video and for leaving your question. If you have other questions. Feel free to ask.
