DIY Earth BOX clone self watering planter

after watching a few videos I decided to build my own earth box planter
you will need a container
some corrugated pipe
some pvc pipe
potting MIX (not soil)

Fantastic man. Made many different sip love them, I put air stones in my water, but I grow herb. Lol . I have at this time 36 home made, love them,. You can hook up a red tank to fill earth box or sip systems. Fantastic

I’ve watched several diy videos. You are the first I’ve seen use a dremel rotary blade! Makes a neater, more exact fit than a box cutter 🙄 or a saw. Thanks for that!

I like your build, looks better than others I've seen but I'm surprised that you did not add a piece of geotextile to prevent soil from going into your water reservoir though the weeping holes.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I've seen it both ways, but I did not have any cloth laying around. I will likely pull this box apart this fall and can report whether any soil got through or not.

To prevent the yellow plastic from sagging later on, place some red bricks in the bottom near the middle.

That planter is over 60 quarts. Bought 2 more different ones that hold 72 quarts. If plants won't grow in pots that big I might as well hang it up! lol Have to start fabricating the water chambers. Bought the stuff I needed today. Still need some corks though for the floats...

I must of missed it, where did you put the drain holes to keep from over filling?

with the 4" pipe in the bottom you want the drain hole between 3" and 3.5" so there is approximately a 1" air gap

3 sections of 4” corrugated pipe laid flat hold the yellow bottom up. And two short sections of the same 4” pipe are used vertically for the wicking chambers
