I just tried this recipe, and did the exact measurements, and it came out beautifully, thick and clear like honey! Lathers and softens so well. Took a little less than 2 hours with my set up, but it was also my first time trying this method. Thank you 😊

made this recipe for the second time: I have the UGHPS and I live at a high altitude, 8100 feet. Just as I think I am having a bad soaping day and it won't do much, it volcanoes a bit and has to be at a high temperature to do what it is supposed to do; then settles down and goes clear. Keeps me on my toes!!! This is about a month later...third time making this soap and conditions are perfect!!! This soap did not volcano. I think it helped to purchase a scale that will show partial oz correctly. This soap shows that making that extra purchase will be well worth it. Thank you Ashlee for all your research and experimenting to come up with a great liquid soap that is easy to make.

@The-Grateful-Hippie
@The-Grateful-Hippie 3 жыл бұрын
I have only tried cold process soap thus far, and the consensus I have learned is coconut oil makes a very bubbly but harsh soap. A good amount in the formula is desired for removing dirt, but it may be too harsh and drying on the skin if used at too high a percentage. Using other soft oils to temper it and give some conditioning properties is helpful. 100% coconut oil soap might be useful as a laundry detergent or other cleaning product where the cleaning strength would be warranted.

Unbelievably simple! Will the liquid soap need a preservative?
@THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP
@THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP 5 жыл бұрын
That is a highly debated question, so much so that we dedicate an entire chapter to preservatives in liquid soap, which does have an environment that is suitable for pathogenic bacterial growth and reproduction. We suggest looking up the pros and cons of using a preservative in liquid soap and making your own informed decision based on that. We highly recommend the new course The Ultimate Guide to Liquid Soap if you are serious about liquid soap.

If water is involved a preservative is needed, especially if you are marketing your products, bottle or not, you don't know what customers will do with YOUR product once it's in their homes, CYA is what I say rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Basic science water = bacterium and at some point water may/could be introduced into the product while in someone else's care.

That is great! We designed the recipe and process to be super easy and we are happy you enjoyed it! The required dilution water can vary because every oil has a slightly different fatty acid composition, in addition to different water requirements for the salts. We don't have experience working with hydrosols as the lye solution or final soap solvent, but would love to hear your experiences.

@THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP
@THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, this formula can be used for hand or body use. Vitamin E is not soluble in water and liquid soap is almost primarily water (anywhere from 75-95%). Your additives must be soluble in water, or able to be stabilized in the solution so that it doesn't separate, cloud, or cause other issues. We do like water-soluble shea butter or turkey red castor oil, both of which are add softening properties to the product. - Ashley

Hi- I am not sure I understand the question. A coconut only recipe would be just that- only coconut oil. Same for olive oil. These would not be 30HTLS recipes because they require the additives and aren't formulated for speed/dissolution. You can use any soap calculator to make these simple recipes. And last, yes, you would simply multiply the recipe by the amount you wish to make. As always, be sure to use a soap calculator. -Anthony @ UG2SOAP

@THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP
@THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. All soap concentrations can be decreased in the liquid soap solution to create a less viscous consistency more suitable for foamer bottles. With that being said, I don't personally feel all formulas work best for these types of bottles and prefer recipes with a higher lauric/myristic for that full, bubbly foam that you are looking for, possibly with some potassium stearate or a lather stabilizer for longer-lasting foam as well.

We absolutely recommend chelators for those who have hard water; however, it is not mandatory for the success of the recipe. Possibly! Depending on your needs and skin type, soap may or may not be a great cleansing option. As far as the dilution portion of this question, at UG2SOAP, we definitely believe in using the proper soap concentration for the product type. For example, if you were wanting a mild formula for gentle skin, you wouldn't use a soap with the maximum soap concentration just for increased viscosity or ease in dilution. Instead, we would recommend using a soap concentration that is much lower than most standard recipes (maybe 10-15% soap) and a formula that is milder. This same concept applies to this specific formula as well! I hope that helps! -Ashley @ UG2SOAP

Yes, although when it comes to soap making, we aren't as concerned with the taste as we are the product so most soap makers won't splurge for EVOO and will instead use a more affordable option. For liquid soap making, I strongly advise against using Olive Pomace oil due to the unsaponifiables that will cause precipitation issues like separation and clouding.

I think it does .. I think the manual is right .. according to the tutorial, glycerine should be between 20-25% of the oil weight (16 oz, in this case), so I think Glycerine should be 4 oz and Distilled water should be 7.16 (the manual says 7.18, that might be splitting hairs and below our scales precision .. but we're chemists, right?!).

I love the idea of making quick liquid soap. When I tried to run this recipe through the calculator it comes out to a total of 6oz give or take of water at 38%. Your calculations say 4oz water and 7.16oz glycrin = 11.16oz of liquid. May I ask; how do you know how much water to delete and how much glycrin to add? Second; it looks like you are taking the total of KOH weight 3.59oz ish and used 3.09 oz of KOH and .50oz of NaOH to make the total 3.59 oz. This is so different then makimg a shave soap where you would have two calculations 1 for KOH and 1for NaOH then use 80% of KOH's total. Then use 20% of the NaOH total. So want to try liquid soap but it is not making any sense :( !

Hello. I followed the recipe and added 16 oz of water for dilution. In the book it says start dilution at 40 %. 40% soap would be 22.23 oz water. Should I just add more water?
@AS-nd3yo
@AS-nd3yo 5 жыл бұрын
The amount of dilution water is a personal decision. Every recipe has a minimum amount of water that must be used in order to dillute all of the soap. After that mimimum amount of water has been met, and all of the soap has been dilluted, then you can add any additional amount desired. So to answer your question, if it needs more water, or if you want a lower soap concentration (less soap in the solution), then you can add more. If all of the soap is dilluted and you like it as is, then you are all set. This applies to ALL recipes, not just this one.

I was about to buy the book and noticed this video. So why not look at it and see the procedure IRL first. (I'm an experienced soap maker - >15 years - and have done it all successfully, from CP, to liquid, to MP from scratch.), but never too old to learn. LOL As this course is initially meant for University classes, I'm stunned that all is done in °F and ounces. Not exactly the most precise, let alone scientific way of measuring. I'm disappointed. Promoting the book is one thing, but completely brainwashing the audience by spoiling the video is another. I hope they pay you for it. 😎

this is so dump putting too many text on your video. If someone was looking to read, they should have gone for an PDF, NOT in a VIDEO!

I honestly can’t believe you went to the trouble of writing a comment just to be rude. If you don’t wanna buy the book, don’t buy the book......no ones forcing you to do anything. No need to comment on it.

The book is just the beginning of all the resources you get, well worth it. And I agree with catz, no need for your comment.

If you feel it's too much, don't spend the money. No need to be rude about it. Totally worth the price of one dinner out for me. It's 500+ pages of very detailed chemistry, multiple recipes, etc. It's a great resource for those serious about their soaping skills.
