Great designs are elegant and this is one. Nice craftsmanship, too. I think we stare at these ~$400 router lifts and forget we're working in a medium that doesn't require .0001" tolerances. This type of solution looks remarkably accurate, stable and it relies on the built-in plunging action of the router. Brilliant.

Multi grazie!! Thank you so much!! (Y) Just borrowed the money to buy a heavy Bosch router (like in the video), and thought it would be easier to make a table/lift for it, but I don't have all the tools or the expensive special bolts, nuts, etc, etc. to build any of the many very fine, but also (for an unskilled metal worker) very complicated DIY router lift on youtube. And I've watched MANY yt videos!! Until I saw this video (Huge smile) and I knew I've found "the needle in the haystack"! When very accurate, durable, and relatively simple to build, a lot less can go wrong when making it and when using it, and if you screw up a piece, it's not hard to make a new and replace it, and ...you know what? All this can only give this router lift only label: "Genius" (Y) (Pia, from Denmark and of course, a new subscriber! :D )

Thank you very much! This is the best and easiest table option! Yesterday I found a video and today I already have such a table! I made it!

Wow! Well done, Alex! (Y) I totally agree; this is absolutely the best, cheapest and easiest to make table lift of the hundreds of videos I've seen to find one I could build with limited tools and limited skills in working with metal! I'm going to set up my tiny workshop (3x3 meters!) over the next 2 weeks, and after building a new workbench with a station for my new transportable table saw, this router lift is my second project! Alex, after 7 months, have you changed anything, or is your lift still working perfectly? Stay safe and creative (y) Greetings from Denmark.

I have 5 of those butchers blocks from ikea holding different machines, they work really well, mine are the older tables which have thicker legs and tops, they were in our kitchen until a couple of years ago then new kitchen and i got those for my workshop... great for a router table, drill press, jigsaw table and small workshop table, just screw thin wood onto the sides to seal them and add a door on the front all with 5mm ply.

Thanks for presenting your project. I like your design! What's that plate with a nut you are mounting in 6:06? Is it a ready-made product or is it built by you? I mean, it doesn't seem to be difficult to make, but in case there is something readily available, I would prefer that.
