Thank you for your very well done video. It was absolutely stellar in every way without a bunch jibber jabber and wasted time and effort watching the bolts be removed and every other thing. It's rare to see this good a job without a bunch of searching. I actually decided to do the complete overhaul on my 1960's model rather than just fix the part that had the leak.

This video was super helpful! The replacement spud was the culprit. The shape of the spud nut was causing a slow and annoying leak. Thank you so much!

Many thanks for your video, because it saved me untold hours of frustration. The key to your instruction was @ 3:15 when you explained that re-using the existing retaining ring was preferred since it was round and fit would fit properly unlike the Everbilt hex replacement. Everbilt should hire you as a consultant.

Thank you for your advise for using the original nut on the bottom of the tank instead of the six-sided, new one. I had quite the leak and now it's gone! Thank you for your clear instructions.

Thanks for posting this video. It's the only video I can find where the nut under the tank is circular. Mine is very hard to remove. I heard you say you can remove it with an oil filter wrench, or what was the other tool you mentioned before that? It's hard to make out what you said. Thanks again for the easy step-by-step. :)

Thanks for this video. My problem is that the tank nut on my toilet was so corroded and couldn't be removed without breaking it completely. Now, I'm having an impossible time finding a replacement round tank nut because the hexagonal ones won't fit. I'm debating just completely replacing the toilet but I've already bought multiple replacement parts. Let me know if you have any advice.

Update: I fixed it, Menards sells tank nuts that fit Mansfield toilets, I ended up buying the "Korky Mansfield Toilet Flush Valve & Seal Kit" in black which also came with the correct tank nut.

Hi this is really helpful video. I have a leaky toilet bowl, basically after I flush water continues to leak into the bowl (really slowly). I have fixed this earlier in my other toilets by replacing the valve but this time replacing the value didn't solve the problem. Do you think I should be replacing the tower or something else?
@TightWadDIY
@TightWadDIY 8 жыл бұрын
piyush sopory It could be the float on the fill valve side. I've had to adjust the float on mine before so it cuts off at the correct height.

I tightened the bolts but it's still leaking. Did I tighten too tight or still not tight enough? I put rubber washers on before the metal ones like my instructions on my package say. Should I take the rubber washers off? Should I buy some flex seal at the store?
@TightWadDIY
@TightWadDIY 8 жыл бұрын
briarbehr I wouldn't recommend using flex seal on home repair projects involving water. Check the video around the 3:05 time. You may have used the nut from your new package instead of the original one for your toilet. That is what caused leaks on our first attempt.
@briarbehr
@briarbehr 8 жыл бұрын
TightWadRepairs I used the original like you suggested. I notice my leak is coming from all 3 bolts from the tank.
@TightWadDIY
@TightWadDIY 8 жыл бұрын
briarbehr You shouldn't have to tighten those bolts more than snug. Inspect the rubber washers for cracks.

I used a universal Fluidmaster kit on my Mansfield 160. It also replaced that proprietary flusher tower. I even used nuts in between the talk and the bowl even though I don't think the company did that. No leaks though.

I did this step by step as you suggested, but now I have a leak between the tank and the pedestal that I cannot diagnose. I tried tightening the nut that pulls the gasket down into the bottom of the tank, but that did not help. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the helpful video. I got the mansfield 160 model, part number 211 I see in the toilet. What's the best place to buy the whole thing and in parts?
@TightWadDIY
@TightWadDIY 6 жыл бұрын
Okaythen001 You can purchase a replacement kit at a big box store like Lowe’s, Home Depot, or Maynard’s. You can also order the Mansfield brand OEM kit online.

thanks for the reply. My fill valve gets stuck at top and takes awhile to come down, so I went to another room and only replaced the fill valve. gasket looked ok so should be ok? so far so good. (the valve from the wall leaks a little bit, I turned it pretty tight but still leaks, wonder if that broke the fill valve? also the fill valve I got is the same as yours in the video and not the one with balloon blue thing. Actually it's hard to find our kind of fill valve, do you have a part number for that? thanks so much
@TightWadDIY
@TightWadDIY 6 жыл бұрын
Okaythen001 I highly discourage leaving any type of leak. A small leak can quickly become a large leak and cause major damage. Leak: Are you referring to the shut off valve right against the wall? Part: I think the newer style flush valve is fine. I’m sure you could order an exact replacement online.
@okaythen001
@okaythen001 6 жыл бұрын
Yea I am talking about the shut off valve from the wall, I shut it off pretty tight and the water still coming out. Should I tighten the nut more or something else. Anad about the fill valve took it off and it's not manfield, it's fluidmaster model 400 I guess last owner replaced only the fill valve with a different brand. So in general I guess I don't have to buy manfield parts? What knock off brand would you suggestion that's decent in price and quality. (anyways it's pretty much fixed now thanks to your video, much easier with your vid instead of going in blind and figure out everything, so much easier with the video)
@TightWadDIY
@TightWadDIY 6 жыл бұрын
Okaythen001 For the toilet in the video we bought all of the parts at Lowe’s or Home Depot. It’s not necessary to buy OEM parts in my opinion. If your cut off valve is leaking, you have to determine if it’s the supply line to the toilet or the valve itself. Remove the supply line (hose)hose completely. If there is still a leak at the valve then you know it’s the valve which is less common. It’s most likely the supply line and probably the o-ring inside it. You can either get a new o-ring at a hardware store or replace the whole supply line(my recommendation). If you go the o-ring route, take the hose with you to the store. When it comes to water leaks, always err on the side of caution.

Hey TightWadRepairs - I replaced the red seal in the manner you showed and yet the leak still remains, curiously when I press down that black shaft that sits on top of the seal (thereby putting extra pressure on the top red and bottom black seals) the leakage temporarily stops for a period but then when you go to use the toilet again, it will continue to leak in to the bowl. Does this suggest I need to do a full repair like on this video?
@TightWadDIY
@TightWadDIY 8 жыл бұрын
Peter Ziegler It sounds like the red ring isn't quite seated properly. Make sure it is in the very top groove of the white piece. I still had a leak on one of mine so I pulled the red ring to spin it slightly and it fixed the issue. I think it barely wasn't all of the way in the groove.
