Just made my skirt - and I used material that my mom (who has passed) had kept - so it is extra special! The video and your instructions were both excellent. If I can do it - anyone can! Thank you so very much! I will wear it proudly and pass on this video.

instant subscribe after the silk bias skirt video! I'm becoming increasingly mindful in the way that I source my clothing and after doing a pinterest board of my current style identity, going shopping and realizing that what I love is either ridiculously overpriced or isn't in stores at all, and getting inspired by well thought out videos like yours, I'm giving the old sewing machine another try! Made this skirt out of a knit wool and love it! However, the straps are hilariously long so I had to shorten them after the fact. Wrapped just like you did, they're dragging on the floor! Had to make some other small adjustments bc my hip to waist ratio is larger than yours, I think. Overall, I'm loving going back and forth between your tutorials and using patterns from Seamwork.

Hi! I'm not sure yet, but I am thinking of making a wrap skirt like this but maybe with ruffle edges? Could I just add a ruffle to the angled edge and/or the bottom to achieve that look or would that mess with the lay of the fabric? I really like the clear explanation of this video :)
@carringtonforeman59814 жыл бұрын
I also want my length to be a little longer too!
@TheEssentialsClub4 жыл бұрын
Too easy! To add the extra length just figure out that measurement as shown in the initial steps. Then from there there's two ways you can add the ruffle effect. First you could just create a ruffle and add it to the bottom length of the skirt and leave the sides straight. Or secondly instead of it being a pointed corner on the front sides you could add a curve and that way add a ruffle that smoothly extends all the way across the edge. Hope that helps :)

this was soooo good and easy to follow! kinda sad cause with every skirt ive made it always ends up waaaaay too small! i dont know how, i always measure and follow the steps exactly :(
@TheEssentialsClub4 жыл бұрын
Aw thank you so much!! Maybe with future skirts you just need to add extra seam allowance to be safe as it's always easier to take something in rather than make it bigger x x
@lilnuggies44594 жыл бұрын
I love this skirt and am going to make it but I was wondering is the actual skirt part supposed to be the circumference times 1.5 or are only the straps supposed to be that size please let me know
@cgirlb98344 жыл бұрын
Question: I am wanting to make this and use a sear sucker material. It is really thin and very see through. When cutting out the big rectangle/ main skirt piece, can I fold in half to make it more opaque?
@TheEssentialsClub4 жыл бұрын
ooo that material will come up great! I've made a wrap skirt out of a white linen before and because it was going to be see through I just doubled it up with some lining (which can be the exact same material otherwise a basic plain colour cotton etc). All I did was cut out two of the same sized main panels joined them together and then followed the rest of the steps. To take it up another level you could always sew them with the good sides facing for the side and bottom seams them flip that out and what you end up with are super clean edges and you don't need to hem them :). And again just follow the rest of the side dart and waistband steps from there. Hope that makes sense x

How much fabric would you need to make this pattern?
@mei-hsiuchen45684 жыл бұрын
hi, I just found your super helpful tutorial. I just have a question for the darts. I saw you find the position of darts by folding the fabric into third. But do the darts end up be on your sides?? It feels like the darts still end up at the back when you wear it. I do want to my darts end up at the back, so just simply follow your three fold way??
@TheEssentialsClub4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! Glad you found this tutorial helpful. The main reason I fold it into thirds is to help find the two side edges. So it's strange that it's sitting more towards the back for you. If that's the case and it's not too much of a hassle it might be worth moving one of them across so it allows more space across the back and so they're positioned as side seams. x
@hollybeee84015 жыл бұрын
Hiya! love this tutorial it’s helped a lot!! Just wanna check... did you make 2 straps for the waist both at 60” long ? Or were they both 30” long and created 60” in total? Hope this makes sense haha
@TheEssentialsClub5 жыл бұрын
So glad to hear it's helped you!! haha that totally makes sense, I made two straps at 1.5 my hip size, so that's correct that it was 2 at the length of 60" each. That way they can both easily wrap around my waist with enough length to tie up and hang as a feature :)

@phoebe123456784 жыл бұрын
How many meters of fabric would this use - about 2? Thanks for the tutorial!
@TheEssentialsClub4 жыл бұрын
Hey! The amount all depends on your size. To find the ideal amount measure your full hip circumference then times this by 2 and that should be plenty for the straps and the main panel with seam allowance. Hope that helps :)

@TheEssentialsClub5 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. I get fabric from varied places depending on what I have in mind. If you're Australia based I'd highly recommend looking into this fabric store www.thefabricstore.com.au/ otherwise I tend to use a lot of thrifted fabric/garments. Hope that helps! x

i just made this skirt and i just finished! i love it so much im so surprised with how it turned out!
@TheEssentialsClub4 жыл бұрын
I'd suggest doubling it up, as it might not be so practical to wear if it's too see through! Just cut out the first main panel twice and join it together then do all the same steps from there :)

Can you cut the extra fabric from the darts
@TheEssentialsClub4 жыл бұрын
Definitely! Just make sure you're definitely happy with the fit before you do that as it makes it more permanent and then just overlock or zig-zag stitch to clean it up :)
